- I love the fangan community, and thought it was about time someone make comprehensive video series about how to make them. So join me as I attempt to deconstruct the process of making a fanganronpa, from the art to the writing to the structure.

Fangans are such hard work... and that's why I procrastinated for three years. Still haven't written the first trial but I'm getting to that point
If you can draw, don't.
Write the fangan first especially if you get distracted easily.
Planning is essential to writing a fanganronpa. I wish I did this earlier because those three years could've become something - but at the same time, if I didn't spend all my time daydreaming instead of writing, I probably wouldn't have come up with the all the deaths, executions, foreshadowings, clues, plot twists, characters, and everything else that I plan on writing. So, I'm actually glad.
But uh obviously this isn't the best thing to do so don't follow my footsteps lmao i beg

so i’m writing a fangan where the whole twist is they’re actually students that died 100 years ago in the first killing game but it’s supposed to be in two different connected series with the twist in the second one !! i’m not sure how i’d make the wrap up in the first part not look. um . I'm very glad videos like these are still being made. The fanganronpa community is such a vast and creative group of people and I really want to see each person's idea shine in the best way possible. Video guides like these are a definite step in the right direction.
One thing I will say as someone who is writing their own fanganronpa (and has completed one before albeit a poorly made one) is that no matter your medium, FANGANS ARE A HUGE COMMITMENT. There's a lot more work than you might realize. Still if you take a little bite out of it each day and stick to it, I know you can make something you're proud of!

YES!!! Gosh I love fangan community for being so friendly. I myself am a beginner fangan creator (RPG maker playable, ADR52 - about Rantaro's previous killing game) and I was definitely for at least some part inspired by you, your fangan, and the fact that you managed to actually finish it, so I can't wait for more videos like that

I appreciate you making this since I’ve been wanting to make a Fanganronpa, but I never knew how to start it. This has helped me plan a simple base for the characters, plot, and more essentials to making a Fangan. I’ve slowly been building off of the simple bases and improving them. This has made this whole process SO much easier, thank you!

No Need for facial expressions (but characters need more action in their movements sometimes)

I'll probably have plenty more specific stuff to say throughout the series, but for now i'll just leave the biggest piece of advice i usually tell people: Be your own biggest fan!! Make your fangan because YOU want to!! Passion is necessary for making these things, and you'll burnout much faster if you don't love what you're doing

i used to write my fangans in chunks of story admittedly and i think its good practice even outside of fangans btw. you want to write a fangan but dont wanna slog through the daily life just to get to the trial fsr? just write the trial lmao.
but i want to make a little sidenote on written fangans. they are by far not the least work. my favorite fangans took 3 or so years to finish, and they're both written. especially in regards to the fact some dont opt for the script style and go for full detail, it can get.. wordy very very fast. and the fact they'll take so long to write will scare even writers away. so they'll take just as much time as any other fangan to write, i think. "easy" i think is being gentle about it when writing can genuinely take months to move on from one scene to the next if you lose the energy *to* write.
edit: even script fangans i think ^ ive only read a few in full novel format, because i notice the more fuller fangans use the script format and even then the amount of time and dedication is a lot, especially if you get burnt out.
i don't mention any of that rudely, but as just some commentary from someone who has been working on a purely written fangan for the past two years and only recently figured out which format i want to use lol.
I'm liking the series so far. I'm a beginner fangan creator (for a Pokemon crossover called Kantoganronpa), though I've published all of it. There's still a lot more I'm learning so I can publish 9 more (One for each Pokemon main game/region)

the biggest problem for me, is that i take inspiration from anime. I have a fangan concept in mind that im currently working on, but the issue is that i don't want my premise and story to be too similar to a different fangan, which often kills my motivation
tip: dont care about that. i have a character who is eerily similar to another in a different fangan, but i made them when i wasnt even aware of that character and had forgotten them. as long as you have faith in your ability to write you should genuinely be good to go. everyone takes inspo from everyone.
(and i dont think you CAN be too similar to another fangan - we're all coming from the same baseline series we love. we'll all have something similar whether we're aware of it or not.)

I've numerous times wanted to make my own fanganronpa title but never had the time, find the group, or resources to pull it off or most of the time a combo of all 3.

As someone who wants to make Fan game. As self claimed creative persone, i started writing a basic story base, i tought it was great untill i got to art. I love drawing but don´t really have a own art style, plus i can´t make digital art since i only know traditional, and even that seems to fall short of a danganronpa level art. Next was Programming, i don´t know anything about Coding, like nothing, and it hurts knowing it won´t be easy to learn and with the type of persone i am, i know i will most likely not learn it. As much as i want to make a fangame, i think i need to to something else with my Project. OR make a smaller project to test my skills with.
The closest I have for a game engine is Game Maker Studio 2. I would like to make a fangan with it, though I want to figure out where to get my start for it, as I'm drawing blanks.

I would like to know if there is a possibility of a Fanganronpa to be in an "Audio / Radio Drama" format, where it is just the voice acting and sounds and music there.
What do you think of the pros and cons if ever? Were there any existing Audio / Radio Fanganronpas you know of?
Ooo this is a really good question! The only audio drama fangan I’ve heard of was Re: Birth voices, and from what I know they were fairly successful, so I do believe this format can be done well, but it would likely require a very strong script and voice cast to compensate for the lack of anything visual. For example, since you wouldn’t have a sprite to convey an emotion, you have to rely entirely on the VA’s delivery. The upside is it would save a ton of time and effort not having to create any visual assets, though. Hope that helps!!

Hey! This video is really helpful but I have a question for my own Fan game, am I allowed like legally to use Monokuma in it? Including having cameos from the original cast like Junko and stuff. I don't intend to make money from it but will I still get copyrighted or sued?

I've heard that fangans aren't legally monetizable, and whilst this may very well not be a topic you have any insight on, I was wondering to what extent that is true and how close something can be to a fangan and be monetizable?
Yes, you can't legally monetize fangans because the main games are copyrighted so if you were to monetize a fangan, you very likely could get sued. This is why fangans are made up of vollunteer teams 99% of the time. If you wanted to make a game inspired by danganronpa, but still monetizable, it'd have to exclude the name "danganronpa" in the title, no danganronpa music, none of the existing characters, and you can't explicitly do the stuff like "super high school level" or "ultimate talents" (unless it was something slightly different like a profession each character had, but those specific names for it along with Hope's Peak could land you in possible legal hot water). With these parameters, someone still could make a near carbon copy game as there have been many danganronpa clones to not have landed in legal trouble, but if you're going to put forth all the energy to create a whole seperate game from the franchise while still inspired from it, I would suggest making something with your own original ideas and spins so your game doesn't get called a rip off. There are many other games similar to danganronpa that are also very original and creative!

what is a gacharonpa?
a gacharonpa is a way to make a fangan by making your characters designs on gacha life, gacha club, or the upcoming gacha life two, and making short videos depicting the story!
how easy is this?
its more easier then writing it, thats what i can say. these fangans can take up to multiple months, or half a year, depicting on the creators motivation.
lets use zemiwemis fangan, Tears of the Past. (i believe its called) this gacharonpa fangan lasted for almost 6 months. and so is their almost done gacharonpa, V3 x V1 talentswap.
editing software?
usually use the ones that gacha videos usually use. examples (and best) being, alight master (for tweening) and capcut (for normal editing) kinemaster n video star can do you pretty good if u use it correctly.
pros n cons?
pretty much instaronpas pros and cons! including the one they didn’t know was a pro or con.
theres also another type of gacharonpa where its similar to video style fangans except the sprites are gacha characters, but im not gonna go too deep into that.

Hey! I personally disagree with the notion that written fangans are the least work, while you do not have to worry about the visual aspect. You actually have to write more to describe those scenes without being boring or stale. I don't think its easier, but that the work is more focused on one aspect that the other.
This is a good point! I suppose I was more referring to the fangans that are written and posted on a script format, I totally agree that ones written more like a novel would require a lot more work!

i recommend behindthename and beyondsakurandhiroshi if your characters will have japanese names :)! lots of fun to be had in kanji and the meaning of names. but behindthename is useful for any culture just do some fact checking on meanings.

I am a beginner Fanganronpa creator and have two Fangans in the works - one fanfiction and one Instagronpa, as both of them are crossovers. This will be very helpful.
Also, I have a great suggestion: you should also do an episode that involves crossover Fanganronpas and how to execute them correctly. It would be helpful for those who prefer to write that as I have seen good crossover Fanganronpas such as Danganronpa 69.
