Meet Matthew Braud, Co-founder of Sustainable Harvesters which was formed out of the necessity for fresh and local produce in the Houston, Texas market.

@bitterman co I would argue rockwool is better since it can be made from waste products of the mining industry and the ecosystems it disrupts are less sensitive/productive than wetlands.
@bitterman co To be fair, he said polymer and there are biodegradable polymers. But I definitely agree if it's not. And it's more likely that it's not...
I wonder what if the plants absorb any chemicals from the polymer too.

Interesting that plants look really healthy because I see some brown roots (Pythium ) which means most of the time root rot.
I know that some growers claim that this could be nutrient stain...but in my experience,only snow white roots are healthy roots that lead to maximum potential of health, aroma,quality product and of course yield of any plant.
Try to use some Trichoderma Hartzianum and Bacilus Subtilis to obtaine the pearl white roots,and I’m sure you will up the yield to the max.

Thank you for your effort. Just don't let the usual whiner and complainers deter you. Notice most times no profile pics. That's their whole existence and should be pitied. I am just getting into starting my adventures in aquaponics
This is nitpicking, but I only do this because of the name Sustainable Harvesters which I find misleading. You're using 7000 peat moss plugs(not sustainable) wrapped in non recyclable plastic a week. Do you even manage to get the plastics off after the roots have grown through or is it just dumped with all the organic material to end up as micro plastics? You are also using a lot of power to run the pumps, fans and any eventual water heating or cooling and I don't see solar panels or wind turbines so it's all run on oil/coal/gas. Don't get me wrong aquaponics is a great way to grow food in the future and has great sustainable potential, but this is still a bit off.

It's not sustainable, but, it's a nice try. The minute you have to drive long distances for inputs and outputs, it's no longer sustainable. Lots of room for improvement in terms of real sustainability, but at least they are trying.

I live in Pskov Region. We have millions of good land. But noone is doing anything. We can grow many things even without aquaponics, but people are lazy..and the state is not helping at all...
You can get 100 hectares (it's one square killometer) for 5000 USD.
I am going to start Raspberry and wild strawberry business, hopefully next year.
I'd like to obtain 100 hecrates. I'd like to try aquaponics, it even looks so neat and organized, working as a clock ^^

Every system waste so much energy (and expensive ressource) is not an ecological disaster ? I don't deny the aquaponic is not very seductive (Very efficient, very fast, very clean and it's look like very futuristic) But the fact is the food produce by this way is way less nutritive that plants from a complex system infinitely richer in microorganism. And from the ecological side, given our situation actually, it is inept to think that the future will be made of this kind of farm aquaponics. As the video says, the aquaponics will provide, at best, pretty salads that will be served in restaurants chic people enough fortuner to pay for them because without oil this system is absolutely unpayable ... Best
There is other forms of cultivation than the actuel one (the industrial cultivation). Permaculture for exemple doesn't erode land and don't spill waste precious phosphorous in the sea. Doesn't requiere any external input or energy than the sun. But yeah, it's more complicated. But even it seems more complicated than other system. Long terms consequences with permaculture is less complicated by far... So , sorry for you Matthew Tong , but it's clear you don't know anything about ecology, cultivation or even in complexe system. :/
Otherwise, it's look very cool but don't sell it as the solution for the future, because it's not ...

is it just me or does it seem like the life of the fish is not a concern these vegans only care about the lettuce. im just getting into gardening myself but have been an aquarium hobbyist for 15 years so when I found out I could combine the 2 I was ecstatic. but the difference is im learning completely about both aspects of this system not focusing on only one.
