I got an EMT to jump once, when he threatened "if you say one more word"... so I looked away, waited three seconds, turned back to him and loudly said "WORD". No screaming, no spitting, just loud and with a controlled voice. He about fell backwards! (He probably assumed I was going to spit at him. He had been twisting my arms when I tried to move and I had been telling him that I wasn't fighting back [I was crying from pain] , but that he was hurting me. I swear he gave me spiral fractures in my forearms because they hurt for two months later.) I can still see the surprised look on his face, and me uncontrollably laughing at the fact he got scared by the word "WORD".

He probably was, I'm a former CSM. Their official title is called Asset Protection. They have 2 "variants" to these associates. There is the 1st group, which are the door greeters who check your receipts, and there is another set of associates who dress like day to day customers.
You won't know who they are because they don't carry badges or wear any kind of company issued identification. They keep an eye on both associates and customers for asset loss.
The only issue I'm having is if you were to believe policy, at least, this kind of interaction is a complete no-no for AP. Not only are they only supposed to identify themselves when asset loss is being committed, and they are stopping a customer, but also it would make more sense for them to grab another manager.
When AP would find a threat that didn't require someone to be detained, they would get me or another manager to handle it.
Furthermore they always identify themselves as "asset protection" not "walmart security"
