  • On Sunday, January 19, SpaceX successfully completed an in-flight test of Crew Dragon’s launch escape capabilities from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This test, which did not have NASA astronauts onboard the spacecraft, demonstrated Crew Dragon’s ability to reliably carry crew to safety in the unlikely event of an emergency on ascent.
    Falcon 9 and Dragon lifted off at 10:30 a.m. EST, or 15:30 UTC, with the abort sequence initiating approximately one and a half minutes into flight. Crew Dragon's eight SuperDraco engines powered the spacecraft away from Falcon 9 at speeds of over 400 mph. Following separation, Dragon's trunk was released and the spacecraft's parachutes were deployed, first the two drogue parachutes followed by the four upgraded Mark III parachutes. Dragon safely splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean and teams successfully recovered the spacecraft onto SpaceX's recovery vessel.

But those in whose hearts is doubt pursue, forsooth, that which is allegorical seeking (to cause) dissension by seeking to explain it. None knoweth its explanation save Allah. And those who are of sound instruction say: We believe therein; the whole is from our Lord; but only men of understanding really heed.

      10. (On that day) neither the riches not the progeny of those who disbelieve will aught avail them with Allah. They will be fuel for fire.
      11. Like Pharaoh's folk and those who were before them, they disbelieved Our revelations and so Allah seized them for their sins. And Allah is severe in punishment.
      12. Say (O Muhammad) unto those who disbelieve: Ye shall be overcome and gathered unto Hell, an evil resting place.

    • @chrisantoniou4366
      @chrisantoniou4366 Před 4 lety +6

      Not quite... The demonstration showed what would happen if the first stage rocket for some reason stops working. The abort procedure for that scenario is for the Crew Dragon to separate from the booster, detach the "trunk" and deploy drogue and then main parachutes. This demonstration of that abort scenario was a complete success.
      If anything else was to happen, like an explosion if the main booster, or the second stage, or if things were to go awry lower or higher in the atmosphere, there is no guarantee that this or any other launch escape system would work as well or protect the astronauts from coming to grief.

    • @chrisantoniou4366
      @chrisantoniou4366 Před 4 lety +1

      @@switchthechannel6317 Not sure about that. Certainly they are designed to, but in the event of an explosion who knows what damage could occur. Also, explosions at sonic speeds would create shock waves far faster than the SuperDraco engines can outrun. Add to that the fact that there would be much more fuel at low altitudes and slower speeds to fuel an explosion and that aborts at supersonic speeds are much more problematic, so you can't rule out a disastrous outcome in the event of a crewed launch.
      Don't get me wrong, the Crew Dragon is certainly a capable spacecraft and the launch escape system will get the astronauts out of a lot of otherwise deadly scenarios, but they aren't a complete guarantee of their safety. Having said that, SpaceX have certainly demonstrated the launch escape system's capabilities in the event of an engine malfunction resulting in a shutdown.

      34. Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?

      38. Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
      39. On that day neither man nor jinn will be questioned of his sin.
      40. Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
      41. The guilty will be known by their marks, and will he taken by the forelocks and the feet.
