- Do Fishing Scents and Attractants really help you catch more fish? I was always skeptical of this question when I first started fishing years ago. I then began using scents on my lures and starting catching more fish compared to friends in the back of the boat that were fishing the same stuff. Let me know what your thoughts are on using these on lures.

I use the garlic scented spike-it, and also the gel types, one is crawfish scented, the other bait fish scented. The spike-it I started applying on the hook end, thinking if the color attracts them, I would rather they bite the hook end of the lure. It can only make sense to use scents when the fish may depend more on their sense of smell, such as in stained water, or at night. I also cannot say if they work or not, and I don't monitor it enough to say if I've caught more or less fish with or without it, or if scent can trigger a bite, like it does to us when we smell popcorn for example, but I'll keep using the attractants, I may even dab a little behind my ears to turn the girls on, Lol!

I definitely use scent/attractant. Not sure it works all the time but I have definitely caught fish when using it while my co-angler did not. I really like the Berkley Power Baits with the attractant injected into the baits. Just don't leave a bag open in the truck on a hot day parked at the ramp! whew!! Great vid.
Oh that is no kidding with those power baits. Yeah it sounds like you have gone through the same things I have fishing with other people and almost building a case study that the stuff works.

I usually do not use attractant but maybe I should bring some along so when the next time the bite is tough might help get a bite

I use the catfish power scent and do ok with it I also use some of the sprays I tired a dip and it seemed like it made a difference but to be honest the container didn't seal well and got on everything lol

Yikes catfish scent can get pretty strong, but I bet it works good even with bass.

That sounds like a good one. I've always used bang which is probably about the same.
Also my two favorite and proven scents I use is JJ’s and megastrike. I do prefer JJ’s more tho
Jjs is good stuff. It probably just comes down to what you think works the best which gives you a little more confidence.

We were using the green colour spike it and ran out of bait for they took everything we threw at them, so in desperation after the bait ran out we dipped the hook in it with no bait t all and they were still going for it, WOW

Hi: I just chance upon your video. Spike It has both color and scent enhancements. The color lasts forever. Does the scent only last day you dip it??? Or forever? I agree it's a tremendous color enhancement for tail ends of swim baits. But scent??
I dip it when I go fishing. I believe the scent dissolves out and if you want to add more scent I would dip it every other cast or so.
The only scent I think works. For real is the chartreuse and the power bait baked in scents ! Good video my bro ! Nice to see more content fromyly

Do you think the berkley bass scent will work on snakehead and seafaring predatory fish?
Any scent added gives the bait a lot better chance of getting bit and Berkeley makes good stuff.

Yeah, don't use spike it in the house it will make the whole place smell like garlic. It also seems to be hit or miss on some plastics hard to really say, like some just a deep chartreuse color extremely noticeable as if the bait was made that way while others it just give a yellow tint it really seems to vary a bit but when it works well you would almost swear it was a pigment yet it clear and pretty much see thru.
Definitely sounds like you have seen the pros and cons of spike it. Yeah if your married I would say dont do it inside, and if you spill it inside. Good luck with that one. Yeah that spike it is hit and miss on plastics.
I usually do better with scent. Depends on the fish. Garlic seems to be the most effective.

Yes alot of these have a gel and will take some time to dissolve in the water and will mask some unknown scents that could be on the lure.

You don't need none of that crap get you a can fart spray and spray that on your lures,i use it on live shinners too, everything will eat even small alligator

Yea they do . I even put it on worms and other bait .3 of us can be fishing the same lure or bait , I grab my atlas mike and I get most the bites after .

How long do the scents last and how often do you have to reapply?
It really depends upon a lot of factors but I reapply about every 5 or so casts. It’s a combination of scent masking, and attracting.

yes and no. they aren't fish attractants per say at least I don't believe so my real feeling the thing they do well is mask the plastic and human scent left behind from handling the bait and production of it. Its the action I believe that attracts their attention If you sqeeze a tube of scent out in the water their isn't going to be 40 fish hanging around tomorrow trying to figure out where that heavenly smell is coming from or nothing.

Try them and have two different studies where two of you are using the same lures but one is catching and the other isn't and the only difference is the scent, and it happens on multiple trips. Thanks bud
@@TBassFactory Yeah, I heard that crap about mono vs braid vs fluorocarbon and every other type of comparison between lures and other baits. "I caught fish all day using fluoro and my buddy couldn't get nothing and the only difference was the line. We used the same lures, but he used braid".... Yeah, whatever! People are prone to making up ridiculous patterns that simply don't exist. Me and my nephew have had many days where I'll catch a bunch and he gets skunked or the opposite and even using similar lures and same braid. It's all BS! Fish don't know what fishing line is, they don't "learn" about lures, they don't do a lot of crap that people seem to assign to their behaviors. Fish are simple creatures that are controlled by basic instincts. The way some people talk, I'd love to know the college the bass in their area attend in order to be so well educated on human scents and lure knowledge and able to determine what fishing line is and all the other BS some people think bass are capable of knowing.
