- Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed the cover of the Rivieras' "California Sun" at the second of three West coast shows in California. Shot from the very front of the pit. Obviously I had one person in front of me having a great time dancing. Took me a long time to get rolling too.
- Hudba
My Daddy Marty Fortson recorded this song with the Rivieras he sang lead, Brice and the Band did a good job, thanks for continuing to play it. Rock On
That is so cool!! Thanks for sharing that!
how many of the guys are still alive do you know tell him thanks for such a great rocker
Great song. I love it. Thanks to your Daddy.
Nothing like the original. But Bruce was alright.
That is very cool. This is a hell of a song and the lead vocals are a big part of it. You should be very proud...♥
you know you wrote a great song, when others are still singing it years later
He knows his music and does the oldies so good!
Omg! I just fell in love with Bruce Springsteen all over again.
Great version l remember this song in 1961-2 it was a big hit in melbourn australia l remember it so well they played it it in dances juke boxes and it is better than the rubbish they play today
Love this tune. Timeless.
I actually like the heads of bouncing hair, it adds to the fun of the video.
They gotta be the frisky girls from Old Frisco.
HELL YEAH!!! awesome!
Max le batteur et époustouflant c'est un plaisir à entendre et à regarder merci monsieur vous êtes un grand musicien
I have heard this song mamy many times it one of my favorates! I was so surprised to find the Boss version. I loved it Bruce is the man!! Thanks for posting.
What a fun song! And by the Boss!
leave it to debbie to finally get a great version of this great song up on youtube..thanks deb!!!
Bloody great version.
not a hugh fan but loved watching him do this song, it is an all time fav of mine. his organ player will never do as good a job but thats ok
R n' R with 2 California Blondes jumping up and down? I hope this is what heaven looks like. I'll bet that whole Arena lost their minds when Bruce hit this one! Great song.
I was the guy in the pit directly behind you. Before the show you told me you'd be taking these shots. I'm so glad you did. Love it.
what an ACE song..wish we had it in stereo :(
The best damn bar band on the Jersey Shore.
I still have the Rivieras' version among my 45s
Just watched Oliver Stone's The Doors movie, and California Sun was in the soundtrack. A fabulous fun little song. Thank you Rivieras.
Finally. Thank you JerseyDeb
That's rock and roll.
The best thing about the E Street Band is Max Weinberg.
Love, love , love the Boss Man !!!! Aewesome !!!!
Great job!!
Outstanding!! Ohhh Yeeahh
cool share, deb. bruce has teased this riff in la since 80. very cool.
for the record this was cali/surf song that was not from an la band. ask SVZ for the roots.
Il tuo repertorio e talmente vasto!! Non conoscevo questa bellissima canzone!!😅😅😘😍😍😍💓♥️💕🎸🎶💯
This was such an amazing concert, I can't believe of all shows to see I was so fortunate to see this one, and thank you so much for uploading this.
Amazing.
Incroyable reprise. Bruce est vraiment le "Boss" ! 👍👍👍
Go ahead Bruce get it on bring back the surfing of the 60s or you do the rock will do the source did a great covering of this song thanks Bruce
an american classic by an american classic
they need the original organ guy on this one wish I could play drums to it
This was not the first time he played it, he also played it on the Born in the USA tour at LA during Detroit medley. Great to see him play it agin tho.....
Martin Brabin this was the first time it was played in its entirety rather than part of an encore medley.
absolutely awesome
😀
Very cool
Max wailing strong.
Belíssima versão. Gosto com os Ramones também.
Mighty Max!
Oldies song 😀 🎶👍💙
Ramones - California Sun Live
Have the Riviera's original but man this is great!. Rog. Pacific sunset records.
The Riverias was a cover just like Bruce.
Was there in the pit
If you like Bruce check out a band called Gaslight Anthem. It's like if Bruce was in a more punk style band
I actually think he played with them one time.
Party Rock !!!
in london australia california he plays it and well done till bruce
Bruce did this cover in its' entirety at the Los Angeles Sports Arena during the first leg of the Born in the USA tour. It was no "tease."
I don't know about that +Distellerman. Maybe it was bad luck but I attended 4 of the 7 concerts at the *Los Angeles Sports Arena* of the *Born in the USA tour* and I only recall the band playing a portion of _California Sun_, in one of the medleys. I can't remember if it was in the first or second concert (dates were Oct. 25 and Oct. 26, 1984, respectively), but I'm sure it was NOT the complete version (maybe half the song).
LRNúñez thank you.
🤩🤩❤❤🧡
Why not try everything and much more in life 👍♥️🐒🎼💞🎸🎤🍻🍭🙏🚬❤
Love it!! So what's the joke at 3:44? Bruce letting Steve know that Steve's theory that the song wouldn't go over well was completely wrong? Or some other reason for an "I told you so"? so funny!!!
California girls really like being the most!
I'd like to see another band cover this successfully as a complete one-off... .only the E-Street Band can pull it off.
Dictators version walks all over this.
does anyone know if any of the Riveras are still alive
Springsteen covering The Rivieras? Not bad
SlashMan.EXE Not suprising when you listen to tracks like 'Cadillac Ranch' or 'I'm A Rocker'.
Kandelise Kandle Never realised the similarities, thanks for pointing that out
Written by Henry Glover & first recorded by Joe Jones in 1961.
Joe Jones did the original actually
Glad to see someone point this out.
does anyone out there know if the rest of the Reviars are still alive. i know one of them passed away years ago. loved the guy who played organ for them
Okay Jennifer - Wikipedia is always a good reference en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rivieras
true but in this instance it doesn't give much personal stuff about the guys later on
My Dad was Marty Fortson the lead singer, he passed in 2012. The Originals who are still alive are Otto Nuss who played Organ and Doug Gean who played Guitar, still in contact with them, they're doing good
@@staceywilson74 I'm so sorry to hear about your dad(lost mine years ago, but still miss him) am soo happy to hear that Otto is still alive. please tell him a fan said hi. That organ just makes the song for me
The Ramones did it soooo much louder, faster and shorter. And didn't tell me how to vote. Piss on Bruce
Great job E Street but I say the original by the Reviera’s is the best !
nice*
Close this video and go to the Ramones!
bill jam or the Rivieras
@JSTONE9352 I like the bouncing head too. It's odd that the she, the bouncing head, has yet to discover herself in this video.
Check out this video on CZcams:

Ramones
Menudo parguelas
ramones
Edovski Ede nah
the whole song is on the wrong key.
Annette Funiciello style
can't hit the notes, Bruce? try a lower key
Joe Jones (who did "You Talk Too Much" did the original, folks. Bruce could fuck up a wet dream.
They should have tried to do the original tom-tom business instead of a generic rock beat.
Ramones live!!!!!!!!!
I've happened to come back to this drivel. Before anyone dumps on me I am a bit of a conniseur of this song so I'd suggest obviously the original, the Dictators or the Ramones to say the least. This is embarassing.
i would agree with you..They are from the East Coast and they have the Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon style of playing, which is cool..But this whole song is pretty bad for an example of West Coast Surf..it really drags..
They all sound the same
Shoulda left that one alone Bruce, Not a patch on the original.................
agree love the drummer though
Springsteen srewes up another another song This is terrible 👎👎🖕🖕
Who cares? He's having fun with it. And thats what rock and roll is about! Its not a competition!
get those bouncy heads out of the way
This is a good cover. 'Stealing' this performance didn't do the whole sound any favors. The organ should be front and center for the choruses'
das original ist doch besser.
How lame...with that piss-poor nonsense, they couldn't get a gig in a Jersey bar.
So, Henrietta, what is it you don't like? California, Surf music, Rock 'n' Roll, or just music in general...or NEW JERSEY?
Love "California Sun," Surf Music, the Ventures, NJ and "Promised Land." This is simply a shockingly bad performance by a usually decent band.
God Bless the E Street band, they rock like no one else. But Max Weinberg looks like an Accountant and Steve Van Zandt like a chemo patient.
Not bad Boss .. Ramones did best cover ..
This is painful to listen to .....
Rivieras? naaaa Best and true version is by Ramones!! oh yeah
this is horrible...being a west coaster I never could figure out what the big deal about this guy was. He was a second rate bar band at best but I guess on the east coast they dont know jack about rock and roll
He doesn;t sing melody lines well.never has..--but it kinda rocks and no one else has done a great cover...lol
thats reallyyy.......crap!!
How can you fuck this song up?
I don't know either but Bruce has successfully butchered it.
Jesus, Mary & Joseph this guy will go down in history as a verrrrry over-rated singer. I liked Born to Run. After that - apart from a few songs here and there - it was a case of get me a bucket.
I think Bruce has captured middle American and he ain't returning them soon, BLAND
Keith Richard was right,
So how many times are you going to make negative comments on this video?
You need to get over it and move on....
Bullshit........Henry Hawk is absolutely correct. No band should sing songs that they can't hit the pitch with. Pathetic.
I don't see how he screwed this up, I like it
horrible.
This is sad and stupid. Stick to "born in the usa", and don't ruin the classics.
