    And I imagine most of the MDF comments are from the U.S. The MDF products you have in the UK/Europe put the U.S. to shame. I don’t know anything I would use it for here, and never anything outside. But I would dance in a circle to be able to walk into a store here and buy some valchromat!

    Hi Keith
    I am a civil engineer and the 'bit of a bodge land drain' land drain that you installed at 4:40 is all good in my eyes. Its a bit of a diy solution but it would work sufficiently well as a combination retention and infiltration system. I would not regret not wrapping the system in a geotextile filter cloth, generally they do not extend the life of such a system by much over the expected 15-20 year life you should get out of such a design. I would however see if you could add some sort of easy to clean filter trap to the downpipe to catch all the stones off of the flat roof. Overall I would give it a score of 8/10, great job for someone who doesnt design drainage for a living.

    Thanks for the updates on all those projects Keith, it's really helpful to revisit these and assess what worked and what was less successful. Glad that you managed to manage your drainage and damp issues,.Those road drains were shocking, there are some like that near us and they cause similar problems for the properties on the main road, and it's a nightmare for pedestrians as they get soaked by the passing traffic. Glad you liked the mesh clips and they worked well for you !
    I wish all comments could be made in a positive manner, yourself (and many other channels I watch) make it abundantly clear that you've researched and made your best effort, but that you're not an expert in everything and so invite comment, at best this leads to a lot of really useful advice/debate on best practice or just shared personal experience, there's no reason for anyone to rubbish your content, so don't take it personally !

    Keith, thank you for all the inspiration throughout the years, the realisation/ reminders that sometimes with a bit of thiught things can be done allbeit unconventianally. In as long as the job is "safe" where it matters, in the end, the end results is all that matters. That said, your DIY work (and video production level) is noticibally getting better and better. I have followed many youtubers some already established and some that started from sctratch like you. In a way I emulate you lot by DIYing whatever I can because it makes me happy, that said I have to admit that I am (affectionately and respectfully) jelous as some to whch I considered myself equal to, per skill have improved (skill level, and projects tackled) way beyond what I ever could do myself, you are definately one heading that direction or already there....... The road drainage issue: I did mention in the comments for that excellent video that the Road Authority (probably, but not necessarily the local council) has a Duty to control surface water on the public highway, and to prevent it entering onto adjacent land. Your new drive is a big improvement, but I wonder if simply addressing the root cause of the water ingress might have either avoided, or reduced, the effort of doing that work.

    • @Graham_Langley
      @Graham_Langley Před 6 dny

      Same applies to any land that has been 'improved' i.e. altered in any way - level altered, hard surfacing etc. Any surface water then cannot run off into a neighbouring property.
      Thought I was going to have to use this when a neighbour had a fence-to-fence terrace with no drainage done but the cowboys used did such a poor job with the pointing that so far it's not been an issue.

    Loving the channel buddy, recently just came across you when I needed some project ideas! I can see you’re from the Norwich area, I have a tree company in Newmarket so if I get some decent bits of wood I’ll let you to see if you wanted it. It usually goes as firewood anyway so it’s nice to see it being used for something 🙂

    Great to see all the updates, thanks for sharing Keith. The troll comments were completely unjustified, you did a great job and showed that it’s relatively DIY-able. If you wanted it perfect it would have cost a lot more and that’s a choice everyone can make

    excellent update Keith, and love your work. All I would say is i'd make the wood chainsaw bench a bit taller as bending over like that is bad for your back...i made mine at standing height and between you and me it's one of the best things I've made, perhaps I should have made it a folding one BUT it really does the job for me and my chainsaw.

  • @woodworkingandepoxy643

    I have a theory that people who complain so much about diy jobs only do so because they didn't get paid to do it and it has nothing to do with the amazing job you did. If you think about it a lot of those types of jobs require a year minimum of being a grunt worker where they do the jobs the experienced people don't want to do. And seeing the awesome job you did the first time made them incredibly jealous. Happy anniversary!

    You do a better job and doing things yourself is cheaper. Some tradies are shocking they charge you an arm and a leg even then the job that do isn’t that crash hot. Some of them won’t even come out if the job isn’t big enough. Wish I had someone like you at home at least things would get fixed around the house Kudo’s to you.

    Odd what people get bent out of shape about isn't it! That window in-fill job is decent. The only way you'd have gotten an even better finish was to re-render the whole wall, which just wasn't necessary.

    Regarding your window, I suspect that if you were showing me about your bungalow and all your various projects like you did in this video, the only way I would have noticed where the window was would be if you pointed it out. I don’t think there are many DIYers who do each project perfectly, and I think your projects are less bodgey than most.

    I thought you did a great job on all those projects Keith, and i couldn't give a Monkeys Nuts what some people thought was a rubbish job on that small window opening fix, i would love to see some of these people do the exact same thing and see how hard a job it is to do. It's a pity you couldn't set up the top 5 worst comments about it to you, and see how they would do the same job (as long as they were not doing that same thing week in week out as a living) Take Care.

    Those ‘professionals’ are the ones who come around for a quote and can’t stop saying how bad the previous person did. Surely someone must have done a good job at some point? If I encounter any like this now I tell them “you don’t remember mate, it was you who did it years ago, that’s why I called you”😂

  • @BunkerMentality
    @BunkerMentality Před 6 dny

    It’s always amusing when you get a load of ‘professionals’ who think they’re Michelangelo just because they’ve learned how to throw some render or gravel on a wall. I suspect their anger isn’t because someone is taking work off them, it’s because they desperately need to believe that their special skill isn’t somethjng a DIYer with the wrong trowel and no experience can do just as well.
    I suppose the blessing is that this is only the small percentage of them that know how to use a computer.
