- In this video I show you how to install a Tesla style radio into a Cadillac CTS. I also install Apple CarPlay and test out some functions and settings menus.
So far I really like it! Apple CarPlay makes the UI look so much better and much more useful with my phone. It looks completely factory instead of having a DDIN with a bunch of useless buttons left on the faceplate.

Yea it’s doable if I can find the harness. Resolution will suck bc of screen difference. The only prob with wagon is having to run the wiring through the hatch. Not hard just time consuming

Mr13allin get the one that just came out. It’s quite an upgrade. It has fast boot and built in CarPlay and a much better processor.

Mr13allin there are hardware differences in the new one. The previous version won’t get those upgrades. It’s significant enough that once they have the mother boards available I’m going to swap one into mine.
Trying to get this installed but the guy said something about I have to buy the AC unit or something. Because the new one doesn’t come with the buttons on it and everything . Can somebody please help!
Sandy Marie you don’t have to buy the ac unit. You swap over the one you have on to it. It’s very easy.
Can you change the preset red car screensaver or background image...?
Roberto DiNero I’ve read that you can. You just have to find the correct file location and swap out the pictures. I haven’t fooled with it though cause I always use Apple CarPlay and that screen is nice and clean looking. I don’t really like the looks of the home screen at all.

Yes all the original stuff is removed and then this is plug and play right into the stock harnesses. Very easy install as far as wiring goes.

DonnyFrusciante III with the dongle it is only CarPlay but you can get ones with both. On the new versions you can get both built in. If you go to Phoenix Android Radios website you can find whichever one you want. They all have different options so you’d select the one the way you want. Great video. A year later and its working great? Did it ever not turn on and have startup issues? What about enduring the heat?
Criss P every once in a while it doesn’t turn on... but I don’t know if that’s the radio or my car. I bought my car from a junkyard and it was severely flood damaged and had a ton of issues. Most everything has been rebuilt but there’s still little odd issues.
Online Parts Pro gotcha, so to get it working just turn off then on the car?
Criss P yes. Once you turn the key fully off and back to the acc on position it always turns right on.
Does it work with xm radio? Also i would rather change that car in the background to just a cadillac emblem.
MzBeTTyBooP you can use the XM radio app with your phone hotspot but it doesn’t have built in XM radio. The car can be changed to whatever you want.
Do you have a factory remote starter and did it work after installing the android unit?
ipsguy I do not. I have heard of some having issues with that though. On one forum one guy said it worked fine though. So I dunno. I think the new ones got all the bugs worked out and work very well with all factory options.
I have a 2008 cts and am trying to get a radio for Christmas but I was wondering how hard it is to instal and if everything still works? Also how close are u to Savannah Georgia
Dalton Knick TV it’s pretty easy to install. You just gotta be patient with it. It’s a good bit of work but it all goes together easily. It’s the best factory integrated radio available for our cars. I am an hour away from Savannah actually.
I received an rca jack labeled "back up camera" and also for "on star", but there's no stock rca Jack's....any recommendations or tips?
Its been a long time since I installed one but if memory serves the back up camera one is if you have a stock camera and the onstar one I actually didn’t install because I didn’t need it but it is down in the center console if you want to install it. I ended up installing an RCA audio input instead.
Hey I have this same radio but I’ve had problems installing into my car, my first issue is my sound isn’t working and my second issue is when I plug the ac controls up the radio cuts completely off, I’ve watched your videos countless of times but you don’t show how it’s wired or if you had to do anything extra. And I know it’s suppose to be plug and play but we both know it’s more to it than that. Could you please help me out I have a 09 Cadillac CTS
Fred Madden mine was just plug and play other than connecting my ac controls to the board and making sure those buttons clicked. Then you just literally plug everything in where it goes. I have read with some CTS’s with different options there is one wire that has to be repinned and that might be your issue. Otherwise you may have gotten a defective unit. I gotta find that forum post again on that wire issue to give you a link. Mine was really just plug and play though so what you’re experiencing isn’t normal.

Apple Car Play can work on the regular system of 2008 CTS ?
Arturo Santoyo no. The regular CTS doesn’t even have the ability to play Bluetooth music! The stock radio is terrible.
Does anyone have exact pictures or instructions on wiring in cadillac ? I hooked this up and it does not power on and air controls etc. do not work.

shannon edwards plug in acc part? What do you mean? I haven’t worked on any of those yet so I don’t really know what your issue could be but on some cadillacs there was an issue with the power wire being in the wrong pin out on the harness.

I'm installing my unit and it would boot up when i plug in the power connector but only for about 20 seconds and the screen turns black. i'm touching the screen and nothing happens, even after starting the engine. any advice you can give me? thanks.

ipsguy there’s a good forum for these if you google like “Cadillac CTS Tesla style radio”. I can’t remember the exact site at the moment but you’ll find that some have that same issue and it’s a matter of moving one wire to another pin location on the harness. If you can find that forum post it has pictures of exactly what you have to do. I bet that’s what your issue is.
Try re-booting the system. There is a pinhole button on the front of the unit.

You can get them off AliExpress or Amazon or eBay. There’s quite a few places to get them.
This allows for Bluetooth audio from your phone, yes?

Could you please show the wiring for the main harness, because in my setup the rear speakers don't work, and also there is noise/buzzing in the front speakers on low volume.

Yes actually there’s a company called navtool that makes exactly what you’re looking for. Pricey but I think it looks well worth it!

JEROME SHOCKLEY I got mine from a supplier through my business but the next available place is Phoenix radios. It only took me about 2 hours to do it. It’s very straight forward and easy to install.

I got this installed today by a professional he had problems trying to get the heating to work. Any suggestions???
Wolverine what was the issue? Are they having issues swapping the panel over? Because it uses the stock parts for that. It just needs to be swapped over
My dad got it installed in his car today he said the guy had it all together radio and everything else working fine just the heat wouldn’t work
Wolverine that’s odd. It uses the stock system for that. Did he have issues with it before? If you set the temperature to higher than what it is outside the heat should just turn on. He probably has an issue with his car not the radio. I’m only guessing here though.

Does your heated windshield washer fluid button work? Is there a notification on the instrument panel when you press that button?

@@onlinepartspro7512 The windshield washer fluid heater button is there in your video. The button that is directly below "PASS" button, the one that enables passenger side climate control.
Иван Попов well I just learned something new today. I didn’t know that’s what that was. Yeah all those buttons do what they originally did. I’ve never used it before but I don’t think there’s any special notification on the screen. I’ll have to try it later and find out. So you’re sure it’s heated windshield washer fluid? I’ve never heard of that. I know you can turn the vents on heat for the windshield and stuff but that’s pretty cool.

Just found this. If yours is working don’t use it apparently. Mine has had all recalls performed so mine is disabled.
:) I chose not to do a recall. Its a nice feature. Either way, with stock head unit this button does work for me and there was notification on instrument cluster DIC saying that heating is in progress. With Tesla style unit, this button does nothing :) Recall built in :)
I just got mine im having an issue. No audio and no AC says I have to find an un-used wire from the factory harness and than the crappy forums says something about the yellowish wire to tap into where on the radio for audio? I have an 09 CTS just wondering where I have to go for this.
C4 LIFESTYLE I believe some cars had an issue where you have to move the solid green wire to another pin on the main harness. It looked pretty easy you just have to see which pin it’s supposed to move to. There’s an article about it on the Phoenix forums.
@@onlinepartspro7512 Yeah I saw that on the forums. So going to attempt that. Any guesses wth they mean by a yellowish connector and connect that to where exactly on the radio?
C4 LIFESTYLE I believe you’re gonna be moving a pin on the car’s harness rather than the radio. The radio has totally different harness plugs as you know. But on the main harness there’s that big block at the end that plugs into the radio’s aftermarket harness, I think you’ll be changing a pin on the end of the car’s plug.

TheStranger5250 that’s not too bad. I assume they also charge shipping though. Problem for me is I can’t get them anywhere at such a reasonable price anymore. The price in China has gone up a good bit, so it’s become hard to make any reasonable profit. (That’s where Phoenix gets them, they’re unbranded Chinese radios) I always make my pricing about 20% profit margin which really isn’t a lot after shipping costs and all. I try to keep it really reasonable to give my customers the best price.

TheStranger5250 that’s a pretty good deal. That’s for the new one? The PX6? The price I saw online was like $850. I did an experiment recently and took my PX3 unit apart to see if I could swap in a generic PX5 board and what I saw was... odd. It’s not like any usual PX3 board I’ve seen. BT, WiFi, and everything is tied into the processor with a heat sink. It’s different. So I’m wondering if Phoenix swaps boards at all on their radios or if they just drop ship everything from China with those boards that aren’t swappable at all.
Just got this installed at Best Buy I have an Android phone do I need an adapter to hook the Android phone up to the USB to have it pop up on the screen
Joseph Deascentis yes. The one I use is called CarLinkIt. That’s a Apple CarPlay one. You can just search for android auto dongle. Otherwise the only thing it has is mirrorlink. Or it’s own version of that. It doesn’t work well. A dongle interface is the best option.

IseeMopar just search for Cadillac CTS Tesla style radio and you’ll see it, this one was the PX3 older unit. I have the PX6 one now. I bought the first one straight from China and the second one I decided to go through Phoenix android radio and it came straight from China also lol

No it has a built in microphone. I haven’t heard any complaints from ppl I’ve talked to about it so it’s an alright microphone.

Kevin Carlin yes on screen reads in Fahrenheit and the little separate screens are in Celsius. I did everything they suggested to change it and it won’t change. That’s a bit frustrating. I’m really hoping they fixed it with the new version

Kevin Carlin I have installed things to it but for whatever reason I can’t get things to install from the play store so I load the .APK onto a USB drive and install them that way. Anything you want to put on it you can customize how you want. I really like it. I see areas that could be improved but I use it daily and I like it. I want to get the new fast boot version that just came out. I think I might swap mine out and sell the one I have. The start up time is the worst drawback of this radio and they fixed that with the newest ones. I’m hoping the newest ones are perfection.

I bought them in bulk from a supplier direct in China. You can get them on AliExpress though.

How did you get the top part of the screen off

The black part that was on top of the old screen!! That now covers your WiFi antenna

Tee Fowler ooohhhh!!!! Now I know what you’re talking about. It probably has a strip of Velcro or something under it. Mine was stuck at first too and it has some kind of strip under it. It comes off and you kinda gotta keep wiggling it out. Then the new radio has two metal tabs that bend into place (that’s why mine is off, I can’t bend them right)

followed each of the steps but the air buttons did not work ... The steering wheel controls ... And it does not mark alerts like the door opened or speed ...... That I could be missing
martin ruiz yeah that definitely sounds like something is very wrong. Do the air buttons actually click correctly though? The screws can be a bit finicky to get everything to push correctly and not bind. Also check that the harness is connected all the way. Are you getting sound and is it powering on on ignition and all that? There is a diagram online of certain years where a green wire has to be swapped to another pin. Also check that your radio is set to the correct vehicle and everything. There might be an issue in the settings.
Everything works fine audio screen ...... But the steering wheel controls do not and the air conditioning buttons do not but the originals do
martin ruiz well the buttons are the same as your originals, they swap over. Did you have someone else install it? I think the wiring is not correct. I bet it’s that green wire.

martin ruiz it actually sounds like it’s programmed to the wrong vehicle. There is a forum if you google search it that’s got tons of info on setting it up correctly. I’d try doing a full reset on it first and see if that works. I think that might just do it. Restore to all default settings and see if anything changes.
Did you have issues with the sound?
I had a buzzing with one and no issues with another. Seems hit or miss with them. It’s a grounding issue. A ground loop isolator will fix your issues

I actually used an aftermarket one. Does your backup cam not work?
It works I just wanted to move it to the new screen. I have a wagon and running a new camera is a massive pain in the ass
@@joshirwin288 the stock one should work. The radio has a harness to run the stock one.
@@joshirwin288 I’ll have to look at it again. I’m pretty sure you can connect the stock one but I’m not completely sure now that I think about it.
@@onlinepartspro7512 with my camera in the mirror the harness isn’t behind the radio as it is with pop up. I’ve got to track it down but I believe it may be hardwired. I can splice it in but I’ll have to locate it first. I’ll likely just run a 3rd party camera and deal with the hassle of it all
Any update onthe radio after 6 months
Da Bozz it’s still working great and got it all set with my preferences and all and I added a sub and a 5 channel amp. There’s a new fast boot version available now though with built in Apple CarPlay so I think I might sell this one and buy that one.
Online Parts Pro I know this post is a bit old but with you adding a subwoofer and aftermarket amplifier does this radio have audio out on the radio or did you have to use a line output converter? Thanks
Roy Sullivan it has a 4 channel RCA output harness on it to hook up an aftermarket amp actually. No sub out but I ran that off the rear channels with a splitter.
Does anyone have problems with internet speeds being extremely slow?
PhoenixRising66 are you trying to download apps from the store? If so I couldn’t get mine to download anything. So I put the apk on a usb drive and downloaded it that way. Hopefully that helps you.

PhoenixRising66 just download stuff onto a usb from a pc, it’s a lot faster. Then if you need to reset for any reason you have backups of all the apps.

Ray Davis I just got a really cheap universal one. I think it was $30 and it’s just a basic little square camera that mounts with double sided tape. I got it on amazon. I’ll look it up later and post a link for it.

Mike O no. But I’ve heard there was issues with using remote start with this before like the ac won’t turn on while it’s remote started until you turn the key. I can’t speak from experience though.

How did you hook up your factory amp
Lamont Turner it plugs in to your factory harness in the dash, it’s plug and play.

@@robertconklin502 there are settings to set it to your sound system have you selected the vehicle? You may have to change it to ATS I believe it is. You could also try a factory reset.

@@josuetorres8882 I can’t really compare because I added in amps and aftermarket sub and everything at the same time but I think it is! It has a lot of adjustments that you can make to make it sound perfect.

King Red usually you can find them around $600-700. I haven’t checked lately but they’re prices seemed to have gone up with their popularity.
Phoenix has the new ones for $730, or less if you can nab an open-box one when theyre in stock.
Sean Carey I’m waiting for anyone else to have them available... I won’t buy from them. They were previously claiming they designed them and charging a premium price for them and all they were doing was lying about everything and buying them from China. @@onlinepartspro7512 no, your filming in portrait. Landscape is when the phone is held sideways. Landscape allows the picture to be bigger and fill the watchers screen.

You can use just about anything to remove trim. It has nothing to do with pride when the job turns out the same either way.

Ryan Conklin I don’t anymore. I can’t get very good deals on them and I ended up losing money through eBay selling fees and shipping costs. There just wasn’t any profit in it.
