Haha, not quite! I'm gonna get Navin in here shortly to answer your question but, IIRC, it get classified as irrelevant information by the brain when it is operating on system 2 and therefore the gorilla gets 'deleted' by the brain... - Shrikant
@Shrutika that really doesn't mean a lot either way. Everyone's brain works a bit differently, and as Shrikant pointed out what your System 1 chooses to notice or not notice is a complex mishmash of your genes, your upbringing, your experiences, your traumas, etc. People who teach "mindfulness" say that the System 1 of most people is too distractable and needs help with "focusing" on what you are currently (supposed to be) doing. People who teach "deep work" say similar things. However, I think of those not necessarily fixing a problem with our default brains, but rather as exercising one ability of our brain because it will help with certain outcomes in life, but not necessary that everyone would/should be interested in those outcomes. A marathoner chooses to spend some hours every day running to improve running ability for various reasons, but lots of other people choose not to do that-I think this is the same.
