    Lyrics on Screen
    "After sleeping through a hundred million centuries we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet, sparkling with colour, bountiful with life. Within decades we must close our eyes again. Isn't it a noble, an enlightened way of spending our brief time in the sun, to work at understanding the universe and how we have come to wake up in it?" (Richard Dawkins, Unweaving the Rainbow)
    "We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Sahara. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here. We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?" (Richard Dawkins, Unweaving the Rainbow)
    "There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved." (Charles Darwin, On the Origin of Species)
    "At the back of our brains, there is a forgotten blaze or burst of astonishment at our own existence. The object of the artistic and spiritual life is to dig for this submerged sunrise of wonder." (G.K. Chesterton)

    • @timomastosalo

      And yet it puts a guilt on us. And makes one go fatalistically to the 'good night' - death - without a fight: return to the prior state. Are we just biomass?
      I feel even the animals know better - they fight with all their being not to go mildly to the good night. Day-to-day is a new opening for every form most beautiful.
      After all, this is just The Greatest Show on Earth - this a prelude. Just a curtain ajar to what's gonna come. Don't give up now, on the chalk lines to infinity. The Everlasting story of life goes on. Day-to-day new openings.
      The Everfather who gave us the mother of everything living, put us as guardians of this garden. Well, we became the hunter of theose we were supposed to safeguard - fox to guard a henhouse. Maybe we got scared there will be not enough for us, so we ecame greedy - though even now, this lanet could produce enough fir us all - if we weren't so scared greedy. And we see the other folks as a challenge, when we should see them as a chance. We are gifts for each other, if we but realize.
      But - the infinity still calls us back to life: all the warmth is there, in the midst of the hostile vast cold. After all, He gave us all these lifeforms in all their bright colours, in all its beauty of movement and amazement. The meaning is not just to shine brightly a moment, and go out in a flash, but a perpetual motion. And it's closer to our emotion than or merits.
      We're offered the chance to BE living, not try to MAKE living - and destroy life in doing those hasty moves of panic. 'Gotta make name for myself during my lifetime'. We're not supposed be shooting stars, bright terrors, but suns, pulsing life with ptience, in awe and appreciation of every from most beautiful.
      I'm sure you guest the Infinity Father I'm speaking of, the one whose name even the stones are shouting or the particles within an atom with the stars. And he gave us opening to the greatest show of life, the opening is called of course Jesus - salvation is what that name means.
      He's not a bureaucrat in his decorated cold stone building, nor a guy dangling his fet over a cloud edge. Those are images people made. That's why there's a warnng: Don't make an image of God. They all fall short. Besides: we do realize that a picture drawn from our own fantasy is not the same, as if the person you're drawing comes to model in the same room :)
      No - Jesus took a form on this Earth, not the most beautiful, so we wouldn't look at his surface only. But he came to carry us to the greatest show of life, the eternity story, to the stars and beyond - every day is a new opening, even after no days exist anymore, for eternity doesn't need time. The important is just to live, don't give in to death, don't wish to vanish - or you'll get. Don't freeze into fatalism.
      But alone we can't beat death. Just in the end, death is also temporary, not an obstacle for an eternal being. It's not the end - it's a checkpoint: Do you have the ticket to the everlasting story, endless journey - the Greatest Show of Life, the Infinity of Every Form Most Beautiful? Yeah, the Door, the Ticket to that journey is Jesus.

    • @timomastosalo
      @timomastosalo Před 5 lety

      @MinutemanSam ... but don't always feel guilty - of the things they're guilty of.
      We are so confused, we don't know the line between good and bad. Though some say they/we do. But then there are the good meaning fools - who prove we don't know the difference.
      And you're right in I wasn't only speaking of what the lyrics speak of. But quite often the song tells about how the world was created, surprising maybe for some people. Many call God with the name Evolution. And like all images of God we make ourselves, we add our own views.
      Like we probably have already built images of each other, just by these comments, as unconscious as they may be.

      @@timomastosalo I feel as though Jesus is a figure just like the man hanging his feet from the clouds. the man may have been a real person and may have not been, that is inconsequential what does matter though is the message spread with his name. When someone says "god is dead and we killed him" I know it sounds negative and edgy and like it serves no purpose other than to flail wildly with negativity and hopelessness. I believe what is meant by that is that the message that was supposed to be sent was corrupted by the greed of humans. This too can be said about the message that Jesus was meant to send. I guess my main point is to not close your mind to only the teachings and word that the figure of Jesus portrays. Their is untold amounts of wisdom in the words of Buddha, Mohammed, and other figures not even of a religious sort. You could glean greater wisdom from a random citizen or even your own thoughts. It is easier to cling to a figure though, and I understand that to put a face to things. To not feel so alone I can tell you are a thinking person probably a cut above the majority, which is why it pains me to see your thinking process limited only to that of Jesus. I'm not saying that Jesus didn't send good messages, and I doubt that your thoughts are limited to that. this is kind of all over the place, but you post made me think and want to say something so I appreciate to see that. You have given me a little more faith in humanity.

      @@dangcus1 Jesus is not a theory anymore, or someone's idealism, once you make a contact with him. Through pray he sometime speaks to us. And Bible can confirm him. I've read what other religions or philosphies write. But they really don't give me much anymore, since I found out Jesus really exists.
      And it's not a competition, who's smartest - God's not an elitist. It's not just the intelligent ones who can learn the truth. It's those who want goodmess, truth, justice. Adn, who are ready to admit their own guilt.
      Jesus gave the message so simple, that even a child can undestand, or uneducated people. It's about how much God cares about us.
      It's not that I limit my thinking in Jesus. I don't limit my thinking in what the human mind is capable of.
      There's a load of pride in how we people exalt our own thinking capacity. Like what does it say about us we named our species Homo Sapiens. Are we so smart? Compared to what? To me it seems not, when opening the TV news, to see how smart things we achieve daily.

      Ovrkyl Nice, I was third row, pretty much right in front of Emmpu's stage monitor. Loved him and Troy goading each other during solos. Then Emmpu and Marco played rock/paper/scissors during one of pauses on Greatesrlt Show. And I still can't figure out how Tuomas didn't make his head detach from this neck windmilling and pounding out the intro to Slaying the Dreamer.

    • @Ovrkyl
      @Ovrkyl Před 6 lety +1

      I remember rock-paper-scissors and their shit-eating grins at the crowd!The band seemed genuinely surprised at the crowd's reaction to their performance. We were following the cues, singing right along with the songs, and screaming our heads off, and the looks on their faces were like "We actually have some real fans here!" That just seemed to jazz them up and the show just kept getting better and better, we were feeding off each other, the fans and the band. Plus they were getting more and more personal with the fans as the night went on. At one point, to my right (and probably right in front of you), Emppu leaned forward toward the guy right in front with his fist, so the guy went to fist bump him. Emppu shook his head, took the guy's hand, turned it over, and placed his pick in the guy's hand...then they locked horns. They guy looked like he damn-near orgasmed.Like I was talking with others last night, Nightwish might not be well known in the US (thanks to no radio airplay and so on) compared to being HUGE overseas, and they can't fill stadiums over here like they can Wembley or Ratina, so that venue last night was small and still not sold out...but there was no doubt that EVERYONE that WAS there was a fan and made themselves known to the band.This Decades tour is THE total fan experience (especially if you got VIP Meet & Greet, which I did) for any Nightwish fan. If you ever are going to see them live, THIS is the tour to see. They didn't need the pyro and big flashy effects and sets like at Wacken or Wembley, but they brought it last night regardless simply by being the masters of their art, making anything sound awesome. Case-in-point: Elvenjig.
