As an Israeli I can tell you guys, our country is greener, more forested and cooler than it was 35 years ago.
It's a delight in this area of the world.

The crop irrigation technology could improve crop yields around the world and help developing countries with terrible soil
The problem is that setting up that system is extremely expensive for countries that are used to digging a ditch on the hill of a mountain and let the water just pool (as an example)

FYI, "drip irrigation" is not performed by dripping water on the open. That will waste the water through evaporation.
The "drips" are actually done with underground hoses that has nanoscale pores placed under the plants root system. So the water will go directly near the roots and get absorbed by root immediately, leave little to evaporation.
In many of these measures Israel seemed a lot similar to 21st century Singapore and I think in the years to come, they will become ever more similar. The determination, innovation and resilience of these two small nations are simply fascinating

If you havent been to Israel since 1977 its definetly worth another visit. Most parts will be borderline unrecognizable there has been so much added to the country since then. My father who went in the early to mid 80's told me how certain areas in jerusalem that are now huge tourist destinations were nothing more than wasteland when he first visited. It's hard to even believe that in 1948 tel aviv was just a desert and now its a pretty big city.

They need to make more innovations to desalination. Currently the brine that’s too hard to extract water from is just dumped in the sea. It’s not really a problem now but it can have negative impacts on the food supply (fishing) for Israel.

The Democrats have a super majority in the state senate and assembly. To the environmentalists dams and reservoirs are bad, so we the consumer pay dearly for water when drought hits the western states. This is happening now. Any dam or reservoir construction will also include tax hikes. California and the other western states would do well to follow Israel’s example.
The key was turning the water supply into a self supporting industry in which people pay for value. If it is free it will be wasted! A mayor should have to think about the cost of the water for his parks or he will flood them with "free" water.
Any goods that are "pay to use" will exclude poor people from the market and allow rich people to waste all that they like.

It sounds like the Israelis are the ideal people to teach the people of Uzbekistan how to bring back the Aral Sea. The Uzbekistanis diverted the rivers that supplied water to the Aral sea for cotton production and caused the Aral sea to dry up. A huge waste of resources. I love it when people can't pronounce names properly. For example San Joaquin is pronounced like "san wah keen" not sanjo quin. Israel has truly created a miracle in making the desert bloom.
I’m an Israeli and I can tell you that they still run PSA ads telling us to conserve water though we’ve had pretty good rainfall over the past couple years

Two years of above average rainfall don't make up for depleted natural water reservoirs.
Also, if we save, we can revitalize some of our wetland ecosystems, get the Jordan and other streams to flow.

Maybe you had the rainfall from terraforming the landscape artificially thus far. Nature wants to join the fun too.
It’s the exception and not the routine unfortunately. Having a couple of years of good rainfalls doesn’t mean you solve the problem. Consuming water with care is the way to go for now unfortunately until hopefully a permanent solution can be found.
It's astonishing how well Israel does economically given where it is.

Here's an idea: In the state of California, it has the ability to tap into the Pacific Ocean and draw it's water from the ocean, run that water through Desalination Plants and reduce the water California taking from other states!
Can be done if there is political will and maybe profit incentives.

Most of the tomatoes consumed in Israel are imported from Turkey because Israeli tomatoes are exported to Europe where they willfully pay more than the Israeli local market whereas the Turkish willfully export their tomatoes to anyone because of their abundance in both cheaper labor and their crops and Israelis are left with a profit as a result

commifornia will never do it because of 3 reasons:
1. they have insane climate policies which will block actions such as sanitation
2. the state is filled with woke city folks who get their water by taking it from farmers and others who need it
3. there is not a real need for it (at least for the rulers which if you remember, California is a one party state, it won't have a change in leadership and definitely not in ideas)

And Israel has shown the world how incredible market forces are. When they subjected their water needs to the market the end result was a surplus of water in a desert. Not very long ago people would have considered such a feat possible only by magic

I think the takeaway from this is that there is no such thing as a water shortage, only a money shortage.
I guess Ben Gurion was too pragmatic and thought hard of the people's survival and had to forgo pride in order to accept this deal with Germany. I think he did it for his country
Imagine sending the desalinated water being sent back to save the drying body of water, like the Aral Sea…
Israel actually dedicates a certain percentage of the water to revive or to clean streams, small lakes and so on...
Israel has a plan to use the desalinated water to refill the Sea of Galilee and to build another tunnel from the sea to refill the Dead Sea (which is evaporating away.)

I read somewhere that Israel produces food for like 80 million people but only has a population of about 10? That's impressive!
Israel grows and exports a lot of banana's, a rain forest crop, that should signal how good they are doing. It is a land of milk and honey in the middle of the desert. It should be a beacon to its neighbors but they are stupid. Old King Saud wanted them to teach his people how but nobody listened, so sad. It is a great and vibrant country, you should visit. I am a Christian therefor I love Israel, it gave us the first half of our instruction manual, we love and worship the same God and our fundamental law is the same. I loved my brief visit to Israel and hope I can return someday.
