Cam is pretty awesome too!
@@svenpoletka5236 I agree
Ever since this movie came out, Al Pacino's role as Michael Corleone has been studied and picked apart by every actors studio and School around the world. One of the all-time greatest performances by an actor
I don’t know if anyone text this (I wasn’t going to scroll 165 prior comments) i teach Film History in HS. The defining moment for Michael’s character where he realizes his true calling was when he compared his hands and Enzo’s hands. Michael wasn’t shaking, he was calm cool and collected, as if he was made for this lifestyle.
He is a war hero, he is not afraid
Pacino's voice changed over the years probably due to heavy smoking.
Or lots of screaming
Both/and
Smoking? I thought it came from overacting?
My Dad smoked cigarettes for 44 years and his voice didn't change as much.
@@alonenjersey Everybody's different.
John Cazale (Fredo) was in only five movies, and they were all nominated for Oscars for best picture. In addition to The Godfather, they are:
The Godfather Part 2
The Conversation
Dog Day Afternoon
The Deer Hunter
Such an underrated actor.
Loved this watchalong with you three, definetely want part 2 as well.
And to be fair, it is rather unfair to expect part 3 to follow up TWO historic lightning-in-a-bottle's, but as far as story-wise goes, I'd definitely watch you three check it out.
The first 2 Godfather movies are the exact opposite of lightning in a bottle. They're painstakingly crafted masterpieces. A movie like Spinal Tap is lightning in a bottle because of how loose it was, although it also had great detail.
Johnny is played by real singer Al Martino. Al Martino was big in the 50's and 60's. He performed in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and other popular concert halls and clubs.
Years ago he said in a interview that after getting slapped by Marlon Brando, he checked to see if his filling had been knocked out.
Part 2 is MUST WATCH!!
Part 3 fuggetaboutit
There is a scene that was cut from the original. The scene was of Michael grieving after his young wife was murdered. It was during that period of grief where Michael's transition to become the ruthless new Godfather who was bent on revenge. The cut scene is on CZcams.
ngl this video was such a fun watch and i was _there_ lol
22:22 i like this cut bc it looks like i was about to pop off and you in the editing room were like "nope"
Yeah, especially after Apollonia, then nada from you 😂
The Godfather was the first R rated movie I'd seen.
I saw it at the theater with my mom in 1972.
I was 11 at the time.
My mom liked it so much we saw it 3 times.
I remember the theater tickets being $3.50
At the time the violence shocked me it seemed so real.
For Cam:
There are two more movies in the series. Part Two is a classic and in a league by itself. Part Three is nowhere near the other two but it is still a good movie, and it ties up Michael's story.
You need to read the book. A lot of what happens in the movie is explained in the book.
Wedding scene: Luca Brasi is the only man who Vito fears, and Vito is the only man who Luca fears. In the book, you find out just how evil Luca is. The song they sing is pretty ribald and suggestive, as you might guess by the old man's hand motions. Sonny is cheating with Lucy Mancini, one of his sister's bridesmaids (not a maid after this wedding!). You'll see her again. Kay Adams is out of her element here. In the book you find out that her family ancestry goes back to Mayflower times. The Italian people at the wedding could not possibly care less. They come from and live in a different world. In the book you find out just how horrible Woltz (film director Tom Hagan goes to see) really is.
The others (Sonny, Clemenza, Tessio) still think of Michael as a little kid. They forget that he was a Marine in World War Two. Did you see the Navy Cross on his uniform? He had been in combat. Sonny mentions Genco. Genco was Genco Abbandando, Vito's first consigliere. Vito named his olive oil business after him.
"Gabbagool" is an Italian-Americanism for capicola, a meat prepared from pork.
Did you get the gist of the conversation between Michael and Sollazzo? Sollazzo says that he always had great respect for Michael's father, but his father thinks in an old-fashioned way.
Sicily segment: You see how Don Tomasso has trouble standing? You'll find out why in Part Two. Notice how one of the guards, Fabrizzio, wants to go to America so badly?
The baptism scene: The blasphemy of standing as godfather while your men are committing multiple murders on your orders. The assassin who was an ex-cop is Neri. You'll see him again. The assassin who gunned down the don in the revolving door is Willi Cicci. You'll see him again, too.
When Clemenza says, "Hello, Carlo," you know what's going to happen. In the book you find out that Clemenza was Sonny's godfather, so he got to do the revenge. At the end, Michael skated on a technicality. He didn't actually kill Carlo, but no reasonable person would say that he was innocent. Carlo was killed because Michael wanted him dead.
For Marlon´s Brando character in this movie, Don Vito Corleone, Francis Ford Coppola put a jaw prosthesis in his mouth and a gauze, to give him that particular face. Brando was relatively young in this film, and Coppola pretended to age him and look more threatening.
Lol funny how you're bragging about crap films you usually watch and feel uncomfortable with this.
facts: the baby that was baptized is Sophia Coppola...
I've seen this movie a bunch of times, and something only just occurred to me. Isn't it insulting to take somebody with a broken jaw out to a great restaurant? Were they famous for their milkshakes?
I don't think they planned on eating much. Also, The jaw thing was francis's idea. He said on the DVD commentary (which is great btw) that Hollywood always has guys getting punched in the face and then they are just fine the next scene with no swell or anything so he wanted it to look legit. Huge part of why is such a great director. Authenticity and attention to detail.
They aren’t there for the food. It’s a public place where Michael will feel “safe”.
For what it's worth, I read a few years ago that Louie's Restaurant in the Bronx is still there.
@daryllyew62 and they picked it, not Michael.
The Godfather Part 2 is just as brilliant...Robert Deniro is great..
I love the character of Tom, that guy cant be ruffled.
Yeah he's a great character
The character of Tom Haden is a perfect example of a man "who knows where all the bodies are buried."
Frank Sinatra was very, extremely close to the Mafia
The horse head was real. They got it from a slaughter house. They didn't tell the actor what would be in the bed with the blood to get the realest reaction they could.
Godfather is also the blueprint to Dallas and Yellowstone
And the TV show Arrested Development....one the DVD, the show's creators used GF as a template: 3 brothers, one hot-headed,. one dumb, one smart and capable. A father who's taken out of the story early on and is gradually passing on the throne to an unwilling son who's unwilling but devoted to his family, especially in adversity.
That's exactly right! I hate Yellowstone but I love Dallas! The Ewings of Dallas remind me very much of the Corleones.
He wouldn’t have to lie to Apollonia bc Apollonia wouldn’t care to ask.
The genius of John Cazale begins here.
Probably the greatest actor ever.
Woltz was doing the very young girl he gave the pony to
Gabagool
IMO the greatest cinematic endeavor ever in every category, but you guys are boring I'm out
Now you need to see Al in Dog Day Afternoon.
☝👍
I like your reactions. If you want to see a young Marlon Brando, try On the Wanterfront. Brando played a dock worker who's being repressed because he wanted to support a union. Make sure you watch the b/w version b/c it's been colorized.
Fun fact.... The real Mafia add total say over this movie what they want it in and what they want it out. Some other cameos are played by real Mafia Hitman
Iranians used to be pretty Italian before the Muslim regimes really tightened the chains
Police Captain’s don’t have to cook. 😂
You guys just talk and talk and talk over the movie and over the dialogue and about things unrelated
Better than the reactors who don't say anything.
@visaman at least they're watching and paying attention, these guys are not even watching just yapping. Everything went over their heads. Also you need to watch better reactors, they know when to talk and when to shut up, you can also tell they are concentrating in the film they are watching. These guys are bottom tier reactors
@@nenabunena oh I switched them off after the horse head scene.
Majority of this video is us sitting in silence
@TwoScoopsXD you kept yapping and yapping and a out things not related to the film. It's also obvious you guys weren't paying attention, you looked bored and everything went over your head. Serious moments you laughed at, revelations had no impact, nothing deep was absorbed, all surface level. I've watched enough reactors to detect who pays attention to the film seriously and who is there to hear their own voices, so obnoxious
Not true. All those actors were very well known when this came out, and had many big movies under their belt.
@AlexanderWinterborn You're actually right about Al Pacino. But just as a start - some of the actors who had a long list of credits before Godfather...

A Streetcar Named Desire
Viva Zapata
Julius Caesar
The Wild One
On the Waterfront
Desiree
Omnibus
Guys and Dolls
The Teahouse of the August Moon

The Young Lions
The Fugitive Kind
One-Eyed Jacks
Mutiny on the Bounty
The Ugly American
Bedtime Story

James Caan:

T.R. Baskin
Brian’s Song (this was a hugely popular movie that catapulted him to fame - before Godfather)
Not to mention a long list of tv credits.
Godfather is the GOAT.
End of story.
Citizen Kane is high-falutin CINEMA.
Godfather is the ultimate bro movie cause it is basically about feeling good.
Do what you have to, to get by in life.
Love your family, and feel good about it.
Testosterone is GOOD.
That was Frank Sinatra representation actually ....
Apparently had mafia connections in the 50s
Sinatra not only sued Puzo for this representation, he actually got into a fistfight with somewhere in Hollywood before the film was released. I dunno who won…😂
@UWalvern0810 true . Lol
wtf are these subtitles xd
Jack n Jill? Al Pacino ? Shame on you 😂
what type of psychopath feels that strong of a negativity about freaking cooking like ewwww....brotha ewwww what is that?
not wifey material 😔😤
TYPICAL DISRESPECTFUL YOUNG PEOPLE! STOP ADDING YOUR WANNABE CLEVER CUTS OF FOOTAGE FROM OTHER THINGS TRYING TO BE FUNNY. ITS DISRESPECTFUL TO A CLASSIC FILM. GROW UP AND JUST WATCH THE FILM....LIKE ADULTS!!😡
We watch reaction channels for their reactions. We have all seen this movie a 100 times already.
lol
James Caan (Sonny) was well known by this point he was even in a movie with John Wayne called "El Dorado". Just FYI.
What the h*** is that name mate? JAMES CAAN
Jane's Khan was good in Star Trek 2!
@@domingocurbelomorales8635 sorry, I wrote tired, hehe, that always bites me.
@@visaman Indeed, my mess up. Hehe
To borrow from Family Guy: "I did not care for The Godfather."
It thinks itself a more important film than it is and I don't think it deserves the recognition it has. It is very drawn out and really boring. It took me three different times to watch it all the way through over the yeats.
I love the movie. One of my favorites
Weird, I've watched it several times. Then again, I don't bore easy.
Read the book. It took me almost a year to get through it. 😂
@@visaman Oh no.
no wonder a family guy fan dosent get it........stick to the cartoons probably
wtf are these subtitles
The dialogue from the movie
