  • Despite some technical difficulties in "4K City Walks - Bozeman Montana - Montana State University - Virtual Walking Trails for Treadmill" we take a nice walking tour around MSU campus in Bozeman. The school is not in session but there's lots of new construction going on and we have a beautiful summer day to walk. We start on College Avenue and work our way east and then north. We see several different dorms and halls as well as the Brick Breeden field house, the duck pond, and views of Bobcat Stadium and the Gallatins. I hope you enjoy this wonderful college campus. See below for a link to previous Bozeman walks and info from Wikipedia.

    From Wikipedia:
    Montana State University (MSU) is a public land-grant research university in Bozeman, Montana. It is the state's largest university. MSU offers baccalaureate degrees in 60 fields, master's degrees in 68 fields, and doctoral degrees in 35 fields through its nine colleges. The university regularly reports annual research expenditures in excess of $100 million, including a record $138.8 million in 2019.
    Located on the south side of Bozeman, the university's 1,170 acres (470 ha) campus is the largest in the state. The elevation of the campus is 4,900 feet (1,500 m) above sea level.
    More than 16,700 students attended MSU in fall 2019, taught by 796 full-time and 547 part-time faculty. The university's main campus in Bozeman is home to KUSM television, KGLT radio, and the Museum of the Rockies. MSU provides outreach services to citizens and communities statewide through its agricultural experiment station and 60 county and reservation extension offices.
    Montana State University maintains extensive research programs, providing opportunities for undergraduates, graduates, and advanced graduate students. The university is in the top 3 percent of colleges and universities in the United States in research expenditures and regularly reports annual research expenditures in excess of $100 million, including a record $138.8 million in the fiscal year that ended in June 2019. In that same year the university said its faculty wrote 1,100 grant proposals, which led to grant awards worth about $485 million which will be spent over several years.
    MSU is the national leader for Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowships and is among the top ten institutions in the country for recipients of Goldwater Scholarships, having produced 74 of the scholars as of May 2019. The university counts among its graduates several recipients of the Rhodes and Truman scholarships, and MSU has consistently produced winners of USA Today Academic All-America honors. Montana State University offers the world's only Master of Fine Arts degree in Science and Natural History Filmmaking, and MSU's Museum of the Rockies is home to the largest T. Rex skull ever found-bigger, even, than "Sue" at the Chicago Field Museum.
    Montana State University refers to itself as "the University of the Yellowstone," for its extensive research and scholarly activities concerning the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Montana State University has received more than five times the number of National Science Foundation grants for Yellowstone studies than its nearest competition, Stanford and UCLA, according to David Roberts, head of MSU's ecology department.[citation needed.

    Thank you so much for this video, I am transfer student set to start in August, I didnt really wanted to spend money visiting the school as I could tell if I liked the campus or not via tours like this one, but there is no virtual tour like this one. Thank you so much man!!! MSU owes you for securing this future student.

    I graduated from MSU 40 years ago and simply cannot believe the number of new buildings and facilities! I am glad to see that they passed the referendum to renovate Romney Hall. Your virtual walking tour of the campus brought back so many great memories. Although I enjoyed your ongoing narrative, some of your comments (e.g., construction "filling up all the green spaces", and "preaching" (e.g., your opinion about university athletics) definitely took my mind completely off the campus tour. Unquestionably, we all have opinions about how universities funnel their revenue, but you're giving a campus tour not a lecture. Otherwise, well done.

    . Well, thank you. This whoie thing was memory lane for me. I got my bachelor's degree there and my wife and I also worked there for years, she in the kitchen at Hannon Hall where she got her food service certification, me in housing and food services supplying custodians and kitchens with everything but appliances and equipment. We left in 1998, so to see what has happened in twenty-two years is a treat. I watched this thing all the way through, sometimes going back to catch some detail and referencing a map on another tab.
    . I have a close friend who wants to see this to see how two M.S.U.s compare and contrast, this one in Montana and the one in Michigan where I live now.

    Hi Henry! I came across your Bozeman, MT videos while I was researching Montana State University (and earned yourself a subscriber :P). I am from Knoxville, TN and I am currently an upcoming senior in high school. I am looking into colleges all over the Midwest and Montana and I just wanted to ask you a few questions regarding MSU since you graduated there! I have lived in the Midwest before (only 9 months in Wisconsin) so I have seen the infamous Midwest winters, however, other than that, I have lived in the south my whole life. Quite frankly though, even though the winter was nothing I have ever seen before, the summer in WI was absolutely amazing compared to the constant humidity in TN, and would love to experience a new culture and climate. Would I adapt well to the weather, what kind of car would you recommend having up there, and what are some winter recreational activities you would suggest? In addition, none of my family members live there, so I would have to make friends up there to keep me sane haha. Regarding that, how was your experience at MSU, how welcoming are people up there to outsiders, and if I decided to live there after my college days, are there opportunities for jobs in Bozeman or anywhere in Montana? I plan to major in Pharmacy. I appreciate you taking time out of your day to read and potentially answer my comment! Have an awesome day!

    • @CityWalks
      @CityWalks  Před 3 lety

      Hi Tyson and thanks for the sub. I went to Grad School there but I can answer some of your questions. I grew up in Wilmington, NC and Cincinnati, OH so I know humidity and you will love the lack of it out here. It's dry so cold is not so cold, and hot is not so hot. We are nothing like WI and not really in the midwest (sorry to nit pick). Bozeman is right next to the mountains and booming right now. I found the people here very welcoming but the world has changed so I can't really speak to that anymore but Montanans are generally a friendly bunch that tend to judge you on what you do rather than who you are, if that makes sense. Summers are fantastic out here but don't start until mid June and are over by mid September. Only the most remote forest service roads require any kind of special vehicle, though you are better off with a higher clearance vehicle than a sedan. Many, Many people have subaru wagons. Fishing is year round (fly fishing) and winter activities include alpine skiing, cross country skiing, ice climbing, indoor climbing, etc. Bozeman is booming for now but I can't speak to need for pharmacists. I'm guessing you could find work if you are a reliable worker. You'll love MSU and make plenty of friends in college wherever you go. Hope that helps. -H

      @@thelesbrarian Hi Emily, thanks for the question. Yes, it's pretty easy as it's a small city. If you were to invest in a bike/ebike, you'd be fine. Do get to another town or out into the mountains, you'll need a car or friends with a car. There is a bus service that is free ( called Streamline) around town but not as comprehensive as cities in Europe. Hope that helps.

      I hate to get off path here, because I love going on walks with CW… wherever he is. I also love attending Bobcat sporting events on campus in Bozeman. So does my son, so does my father. It is a generational tradition for many families. No need to knock it, as the overall athletic endowment benefits everyone at MSU in the end. That applies to most public universities of our size. Reach out to President Cruzado if you need a breakdown on how athletics can raise a university’s academic profile. You literally spent 7/8 of your time on this video showing off the awesome non-athletic facilities on campus. Then complained about athletics wasting money, then complained about some kid’s car stereo reducing the monetization of your video. 🤷🏼‍♂️
      Plenty of legacy money flowing into academics at MSU these days. Hopefully you are part of that!
      Keep up the good work my man!
