What happened to will?
I was shocked you guys presented our beloved most important and respected Muslim fighter with this respect, this is one of my best show, Beautiful Salah Eddin swords made by Bryan and Walter good job guys.
Forged and fire episod are live in 2020
I appreciate everyone’s praise. I was the second place contestant. I gained so much more from appearing on this show than any money could buy. I met wonderful people and was able to prove some things to myself, beyond bladesmithing. As a human being I have improved from this experience. I believe the decision was correct and I commend Walters work. Pertaining to the text I inscribed on the blade, with the limited time I had and not being fluent in either Kurdish or Arabic as well as not having weeks to study the subject I found several interpretations of the mans name and used the common denominator. Which as it turns out I’m told is in fact correctly written in Kurdish. I did my best with the time I had... thank you everyone please enjoy the show for what it is... entertainment.
Always wanted to be a blacksmith
Both of those blades were singing through that rug. Some of the sound may been post production, but I think they both were ringing
God bless you sir ❤️

I don't get how people love to glorify him for retaking Jerusalem, he said he would have murdered every Christian in the city once it fell had the garrison leader not threatened to do the same to the Muslims and burn the city to the ground so Saladin couldn't have it
The sword that took back Jerusalem
It was a straight sword. Curved sword which is just slightly curved not this curved. Used by the Turks contingent in Saladin’s army. Saladin as a Kurds himself and related to Persian those days were using straight swords.
Where is that sword, gotta get Jerusalem again from the bank.
Yeah but not for the jews

Those are the common rugs in Egypt nowadays 😅
It really tied the room together.
The rugs were nice but the ring from the second blade sounded amazing.
Not using pigs was an amazing nod to the swords history. Well Done 👍

I love close episodes like this. It's terrific that neither of these smiths made an error or suffered an accident that forced them to turn in poor blade. Catastrophic failures are car-crash fun to watch, but it's far more satisfying to see two quality weapons put through their paces.
The close contests make for the best contests.
It’s even better when they bring back the guys who were so close like this for second chances cause they usually prove that they should of had it
Definitely
Thank you very much!
This is one of those episodes that ...you hate there has to be a loser... Both were great!
I actually would wonder if there was an episode where they just had to announce it was a draw. A tie. Both weapons being equally amazing to wield, and they share the 5k to both finalists.
The only loser is the ram....
That ringing sound the blade made through the rug was pretty epic.
If you notice the grin I had when that happened, I knew that was going to be the kicker, and Walter earned it!
Respect to that guy..he didn't use a pig for the test👍
They should give at least 500$ to the second guy, both swords were good, and also they basically keep his sword!
They always let them keep the swords after, it's just theatre.
@@msrlapin99 ^ Yeah the losers always get their weapons back. The only weapon they keep is the winners.
@@battlefieldelite1 Bryan could probably bring home well over $500 for that sword on Ebay. Or hang it in a place of pride in his own forge. No matter what, he can definitely point to this episode to help boost his own business if he makes knives professionally.
@@msrlapin99 Really? I didn't know that!
@@msrlapin99 Actually No, the winners weapon is kept to remain in a "winners hall of fame", the "hall" itself is off frame because the collection has gotten large, but they pull a handful out of the hall to hang around the judges table for each episode. The losers weapons can be seen strewn around the walls of the forge. I know all this because I actually wanted to try the competition, and researched it. What made you guys come to your assumptions? I barely care but I am baffled by the incorrect assumptions I'm seeing here, like the idea of all the losers get their weapons back, why do you think there's so many familiar looking weapons hung around the forge? Why would they either 1; have all past contenders ship their weapons back for decor each episode, or 2; recreate an identical copy of DOZENS of unique mishaps. Both options taking many hours and THOUSANDS of wasted dollars. The best thing to do and WHAT THEY DO, is keep the products of every contestant that enters, and give the winner 10k, it's not complicated. I've now said what needed to be said.
A sword that sings when it cuts..... Beautiful in sight and sound...
Utmost respect to the great honorable King Saladin!

Lol. They should have.
@@toddedwards1371 Get bent. I found it really respectful of them. Plus, rams are much, much tougher to cut through than domesticated pigs, especially for a sword of this style.
There’s a small detail i really respect about this show , the carcasses they used it wasn’t pigs , they replaced it with ram and it’s so respectful and it made me like the show more🤍
A beautiful sword the sword of Saladin is. Truly legendary. As much as the man Saladin himself wielded. As evidence by his statue of him as stated in the video in Damascus.
It’s a shame that the sword of the sultan of Egypt and Damascus is not made of Damascus steel
Damascus*
Well, modern Damascus is generally done to replicate the final patterns that were on the finished steel products back in the old Damascus but I think they're different methods, and by now I think we've made tougher pieces of steel so using them is as practical as saladin would have liked
That’s true but these guys only had a few days to make those, give a proper smith a month and you’d get the Damascus steel one
A misnomer since Damascus steel making was invented in South India
Because Damascus Steel did not originate in Damascus. Common misconception.
Hazrat Sultan Salah ud din Ayubi is a legend. He carry out all his riegn with great justice love care and respect not only for muslim but also for non muslims. This was just a test between a perfect and a slightly more perfect blade
“Their hides are as tough as leather” hmm
Who's gonna tell him
"ah yes the floor is made out of floor"
Technically leather is tanned hide. So the comparison is kind of correct. I´d take it as a figure of speech though.
@@maxlutz3674 And the tanning process generally makes the skin much tougher. So saying the skin is tough as leather makes perfect sense to anyone who knows what the tanning process can do.
The amount of people getting angry over the "new" host is ridiculous all that matters is the weapons will keel.
The emblem on those shields looks like the official flag of Flanders.
I love curved blades, the damage they do is just insane.
was thinking the same
I thought Brian would win solely based on the fact that he inscribed that arabic along the spine.
some battle won by Saladin Battle of al-Babein , Battle of the Blacks , Battle of Hattin , Battle of the Horns of Hama , Siege of Jacob's Ford , Battle of Marj Ayyun , Siege of Safed 1188 , Siege of Jerusalem (1187) and others
Fun fact : Doug actually says “KEAL” cause he knew that kids would be watching this show so he formed an abbreviation that is : KEAL -> Keep everyone alive , and he said this to signify that the main purpose of these weapons are for self defence
That's....Nice!
Really Missing Will ...
Don’t worry, he will be back. He’s just had a kid, so he is busy being dad, but he deserved a break after all the hard effort he put into forged in fire.
I hope Wil is having a good time with his family, but I hope he'll return soon. I never really watched for Wil but him having a stand-in really makes me realize how good he was. It especially threw me off when the new guy just told the loser to leave and didn't offer a handshake or anything (maybe cause of covid?) Also, Dave Baker really seemed like he didn't want either of them to lose with how much he complemented the loser's blade
The lack of handshake is purely because of COVID. Notice that during the testing, the competitors are also standing apart. You can tell about when COVID started to become a situation during the filming of S8 because the work in the FiF forge people are closer together, but then a bunch of the testings the contestants are further apart and there's no handshakes, then eventually everything including the stuff in FiF's forge is shot with everyone apart.
I love it when he says your weapon will keeelllll😂
This has to be the best winner reaction on the show. Was so sure he lost but actually won. Just shows how close this battle was.

You’re never disappointed with the judge’s decision, it’s always right, both blades are awesome but the winners curvature was more true to Saladin’s real sword.
Surprising how such a light blade cut so well and still held in one piece.
For a piece like that to have good weight distribution and no handle problems, is exceptional. This episode was great.

Great duel, would love to see this both battling again
This certainly was a close race. I was thinking the same thing as David before I heard him say it. Awesome competition. The jade colored wood with the acid etched fittings was very pleasing to the eyes.
This was awesome. Something to consider is the fact that Saladin's Sword was made using Wootz damascus. History shows that his sword was sharp enough to cleanly cut a falling cloth.
That winning blade was singing. Amazing work.

Subtitles: Bladesmiths, welcome to the keel test.
i will buy the inscirpted saladin sword for 1,000. if only they put these on bids
Unfortunately it is inscribed on the pronunciation of saladin in English; like he dissected the word into "suh luh deen" and then inscribed the translation to these sounds so it's basically a deconstructed "suh luh deen" written in arabic instead of "salah al-din" which was his name in arabic.
It's a pretty decent attempt and I like that he did it, moreover I appreciate that he had the ability to inscribe the sounds and decorations without taking from the quality of his sword
I like that they use 🐐 for this sword really appreciate that
