Yes, its a rude question, if its anyone outside of your friends or family. I have no issues with saying something is fake to people who are close to me, often they ask where did I get that from since they are interested in where the deals are. However if some random stranger, or person I didn't really know well asked me, I would take that as outright judgement, and ask "why do you ask?", which has the desired affect of puttng them in the uncomfortable position. As an Indigenous woman in Canada I have also been profiled by store staff, and monitored by security camera, and its unnerving. Its saying "you don't belong here" and "watch this one, she is going steal something", especially if I am dressed in my casual after work attire of tshirts, jeans, and runners. Hopefully more stores are training staff to be more inclusive and welcoming.

I have lost track of the times that I have been asked about something that I am wearing. I have never been insulted by it. So what ? I am secure in the knowledge that I like what I like and it is not about labels...at least not for me. If you take it badly, maybe you are pissed about the wrong thing. Are you possibly insecure about something ?

When I was younger, I wore cubic zirconia rings set in 14k People often asked if they were real, and I said “yes.” They never asked real what. It was real cubic zirconia, so I wasn’t lying.

Yeah, I wouldn't ask that, there would be better things to say. But if brands started doing cooler stuff instead of the often crooked power imbalance business tactics, I think brands would have a better impact on customer's social credit scores. If a person asks if what you're wearing is real or not, any answer could make the person on the receiving end look bad, whether it's real or not...because brands are often operating in an unfair system, contributing to global disparity.

I don't want to dismiss anybody else's experiences, but I'm as white as I can get, ethnically and the last time I walked into a Michael Kors store. I picked up a purse and the saleswoman took it out of my hand and said the more affordable bags are on that wall. I'm 40 with no kids, so I definitely have a healthy savings account. But if you can't tell by looking at somebody, you get judged.
