    /* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
Ok so 1899 is now out and the new netflix series has a lot to unpack from it's ending. Throughout this video I wanna breakdown the series, all the hidden details in it and also go over what happens in it's final few scenes.
What I love about the series is that it starts to fall into you thinking that you've figured out the ending of it but then in the last couple of minutes it completely pulls the rug out from under your feet. You're probably thinking what the hell is going on and in this video I aim to explain the ending whilst also giving my theories for what could happen next time.
In the end it's revealed that Maura is infact in the year 2099 and on a spaceship known as the prometheus....no not that one...forget about that. However the final scene actually shares some similarities to the voyages that are often depicted in Sci-Fi movies.
In order to make long journies, passengers are often put to sleep in stasis and this show makes it appear that simulation are fed to them in order to keep their minds occupied whilst they're down for the long nap. Maura awakens from this and finds herself onboard a ship which we know is overseen by her brother Ciaran.
Now before we get to the ending I feel like we have to talk about the major events that lead up to it. This first section of the video will be going over the influences in the show, the triangles that appear throughout and also the details that lead towards the end.
In the series we join the passengers of the Kerberos as they head out a voyage all the way to new york. The ending twist is that they're probably doing the same thing but rather than heading out to America, they're heading out to a new planet.
Either way They all have their own reasons for starting a new life with most of the characters either running from something or receiving letters from their loved ones that beckon them out there.

    Here’s my take:
-her brother isn’t alive; it’s an AI with his personality
-her real husband is the captain; she almost immediately had an emotional connection with him
-the memory of her with the dark haired guy is fake/altered and he himself may be a program that acts as a failsafe
-the simulation takes people back 200 years so that they’re in an environment totally foreign and unfamiliar, which makes them easier to control
-the simulation is a social experiment before they reach their destination; all the talk about the human brain and how people behave and why they do what they do, much like ants in a Petri dish
-the simulation is on a boat, because they are in a “boat” to their new home and could die if their responses to new situations is poor so this is to test their resolve

If it's a colony ship, the simulation would mirror reality, suggesting a very big backdrop to this whole story. The wide range of languages suggests a colony ship. Implying a new world. But her brother hijacked the system, and trapped his sister in an endless loop, and likely turned the ship around. I assume she uploaded the consciousness of her husband and child to tag along for the ride, which is creepy.

The background sounds are pretty bad for a start. But worst of all, the American voice actors are all wrong for most of the parts (it's horrendous & jarring 😩 - German voice actors speaking English should have been the only preference for the dubbing & ones who match the original actors voices). Watch the subtitles with the original German dialogue as it makes it all perfect. And most of all - enjoy! I've recommended it to so many people & it being in German so they got put off by the subtitles meant a lot of them didn't fancy watching it, but the ones who actually did watch it on my recommendations absolutely loved it & thought it was amazing. That they always die because they are too dependent of their emotions and their decisions lead to their deaths. So, what if the purpose of the simulation is to teach the people on the spaceship to make more rational decisions and not be driven so much with their emotions, to create a new society on another planet. If it’s a simulation that they are not supposed to figure out/wake up from - why does Maura wake on the ship having those bruises from the restraints in the hospital on her arms? Is it to help her remember? Why would they (whoever they is) write the bruises into the code for the sim? You’d think they would just leave it out if it wasn’t for some purpose.
I also wonder who the captain is. There seems to be more of a relationship there between him and Maura. With the book reference of the awakening - the protagonist falls in love with another man. It’s about motherhood and sexual and individual freedom. There is also in the book the story line of protagonist being mental ill due to her beliefs/preferences on feminism sexuality identity motherhood etc. So I believe the book holds more clues
I am thinking the spaceship is also a simulation. Historically throughout the show during times of stress or catastrophe “wake up” was used to return them to starting point/spawn point in the sim of the boat. They hear wake up and gasp in a kind of “reset reality” in bed, no action has started yet. This is exactly what happens on the spaceship. She hears and sees wake up - and arrives in a so far actionless “bed” on the spaceship.
Also it’s interesting Daniel has a flashlight. The ships name - Prometheus- is the story of stealing fire/light (knowledge) from the gods and bringing it down to the human. In some illustrations this is done with a torch (ie a flashlight). Prometheus is also called the “light bringer”. So interesting connection there perhaps?

Okay. So, I was SUPER excited about the direction that this show was going. As a screenwriter, I am a huge fan of psychological thrillers and I especially admired the "we're in a simulation" theme that 1899 has going for it. I have studied topics within the science world pertaining to how the brain interprets reality, and I have noticed tons of great details throughout each episode. I am also certified in cybersecurity... First, I'd like to point out the symbol with the triangles, specifically the inverted ones with the line through them. This symbol is actually the symbol for the classical element of earth, which may represent how the characters in the story must essentially "come down to earth" or come to terms with why they left their homelands for a new world... Secondly, when watching the show, it's important to know the distinction between the pyramid that is often referenced by different characters and the triangular-shaped McGuffin (as we call it in the screenwriting world) that the boy brought onto the ship Kerberos. The object (the McGuffin) is actually a tetrahedron, which is often mistaken as a pyramid. A pyramid has a square base, while a tetrahedron has triangles on all sides. Regardless, a tetrahedron is what is known as a platonic solid, meaning that it is 1 of only 5 possible shapes in three-dimensional space that have all sides of the same two-dimensional shape. An octahedron is one of these platonic solids and is basically two pyramids pressed against each other at their square base. The point is that these platonic solids play a major roll in how objects can be built in a simulation... One more more very important thing that people should understand about the story is when the husband Daniel changes the code of the simulation to transfer the capabilities of the black "pyramid" into the colorful toy "pyramid." This event presents the idea that (as long as the code isn't a part of the hardware of the computer) digital code can be changed WITHIN the simulation itself. This happens often with viruses (both computer viruses AND biological viruses that enter our bodies.) Viruses can cause mutations within simple and complex celled organisms, and computer viruses can scramble code within certain programs. The idea of Kerberos as the name of the ship is important (as Paul pointed out) because Kerberos is an actual computer network protocol that authenticates users, ensuring that the user is who the user says the user is. Unfortunately, Kerberos - the computer network protocol - cannot protect the computer from corrupt files that are already there. So, unfortunately, sinking the Kerberos ship may not have changed anything about the psychological states that were already present within the passengers as they are in the midst of the journey of self-actualization. The simulation would have just started over on a new loop anyway as Daniel was trying to point out. The only way to stop the madness was to wake Maura up in the "real world" so that she could terminate the program from outside the simulation... Such a brilliant show.

The conclusion of 1889 Season 1 left us with more lingering questions that answers. Big question is, are all the passengers willing participants of this whole simulation? How about their flashbacks? Why are they so traumatic? What could Ciaran look like, that sort of thing. We appreciate your entire breakdown. 1889 opens up more portals in the process. They’re all never-ending.

The green beetle (whatever its actual purpose was) basically was a guide that pointed out for Daniel and Elliot what needed to be done next. It lured Ada to the deck so Daniel could kill her, which as I understand it would lead to certain set of necessary events. Also note when the boy was following the green beetle it seemed to know exactly how to avoid danger and lead them to where they needed to go, and it also unlocked/created the doors which they needed to enter. Likely this bug was programmed by Daniel and/or Maura, as in a flashback scene Elliot wanted to keep the beetle.

There are a couple things that had be thinking (to be honest a lot more than a couple 😂). The clear affection between the captain and the main for one. They both had the same book in their rooms. They had clear chemistry. Her husband keeps saying I’ll always be with you so I’m pretty certain he means it in a, I’ll always be with you in your memories’ kind of way. So doesn’t that mean that both her husband and Elliot are dead and only live in the program? The fact that the husband literally always appears to fix and issue can only mean that he’s some sort of back door program that she created to fix the simulation or trigger to wake up if something went wrong with the simulation. If all the people on the ship are in pods how is Ciaran communicating with the main? Some else had a theory that he was an AI. He could be the ship and he could be infancy corrupted this the husband program warned the main and woke her up. I can’t be sure who all isn’t real in the simulation because we can only know that the people in the pod with the main are in fact real. But the others could also be in the other pods. The better question is where are they all headed? What happened to earth? Are they even travelling from earth? Why chose the year 1899? Is that the digital code for the program? It has to mean something. The memories in the tunnels had to be some sort of fail safes. Ok I feel somewhat better now 😊

Great video and loved hearing your thoughts about the complexities found within just about every nook & cranny.
I returned to this video in hopes to find explanation of the how/why their simulation is in 1899?
I came away from the series that "something" horrific happened to Earth and the Prometheus is humanity's best effort to prolong our existence/prevent from going extinct.
I believe the mind is truly puzzling and why I found joy in this exploration into 'the unknown' (I think it was first episode when captain makes comments about them floating above deepest part of Atlantic and how it's the last frontier on Earth to be explored)
This is what makes me question why you think these occupants are being tortured? True... there is much we have yet to uncover as far as Maura's brother goes, but like we're told in the beginning (and as you mentioned) they're running from "something" and until we face our fear(s) it'll always be a form of torture.

They said something like 'It wasn't received the way we wanted it to be' so it got cancelled. Looks like my decision on which streaming service to sign up for just got easier. Funny how fast that ship is sinking! lol, pun intended. Anyways, hope everyone enjoyed this as much as I did!
*edit* That triangle with the line through it might also mean "As above, so below" the line makes a little triangle at the bottom

Iam confused about what was maura the creator of? Did she create the whole thing or just that simulation in which elliot and Daniel(if dead) are still alive. Were the ship simulations made by her father, herself or Carian? And does she have any hand in creating the one that we see at the end or is it all carian? So confused 🤯

I think her father was the pioneer in brain research and Maura became an architect of the simulation. If we think that the final scene of the spaceship is real. We can conclude that Maura developed the simulation to keep the human mind alive during stasis or suspended animation. The human mind needs to be stimulated on long deep space travels to prevent it from atrophying and diminishing its neural function as it become unused.

I've just finished the season, and I liked it overall, but the 1st part of it, with the mysteries, and thrilling atmosphere was way more exciting then the 2nd part when tablets, and devices appeared. The moment which killed the vibe was the one when we found out that someone is watching them. It's much better than anything coming out lately on netflix, I just wanted this to be stay within 2 ships, and mystery.
