  • The video is worthy of its 7-minute duration. It is an immense covered bridge and deserves the comprehensive video to view its amazing stature.
The longest covered bridge in Indiana is the Medora Covered Bridge with 434 feet. The Medora Bridge also has the distinction of being the second longest covered bridge in the United States. The longest covered bridge in the United States is located between Vermont and New Hampshire over the Connecticut River. The Cornish/Windsor Bridge is 460 feet long.
The Medora Covered Bridge crosses the East Fork White River with three spans. The East Fork White River is the region’s major river.
The Medora Bridge was built in 1875 by J.J. Daniels with a multiple kingpost truss encased with a double Burr arch. There is a separate truss over each span of the bridge. The interior, therefore, exhibits a total of six multiple kingpost trusses with a double Burr arch. The exterior of the Medora Bridge has a gray shingled roof and red, plank-vertical siding. The portals are painted white. The Bridge is supported by cut stone abutments and two cut stone piers.
The Medora Bridge is unequaled in the United States because of its 434-foot length combined with the interior’s display of the three sets of double Burr arches. The Bridge has been bypassed and there is a park area surrounding the Bridge site. Thank you Jackson County, Indiana for preserving a significate part of our history in the United States.
