  • Launched in Gibsons B.C., 1998. I found this old video, which was converted from tape to disc in some sort of unix format, so I wasn't able to edit it. We were pretty enthusiastic about it. It performed well beyond its designed intent, as it was not really meant to plane. But with a 50HP Honda, a Handler nozzle and a flat bottom, well, there you go. 5 to 15 HP would be a normal installation. See our other video, with 11 HP.

    looks good, nice choice on the outboard being mounted to look like an inboard 14ft loa but likely 12ft to motor mount. Looks like an Aluminum boat. Cool.

    Please say its made of stainless steel.

      @360Crank  Před 3 lety

      Stainless would make a heavier boat; it's aluminum. Very common construction material in the Pacific Northwest.

      @@360CrankI don't think "real" tug boats have "V" shaped hulls anyways, aren't they rather flat (ish) on the bottom?
      BTW, are there plans available for this boat?

    • @360Crank
      @360Crank  Před 3 lety +2

      @@bob2161 Old school tugs were quite fine and fairly deep forward and wound out to a flat run aft to make room for their rather large props. Generally. This vessel is really a toy, but surprisingly able for its intended use in inshore waters. The design is a Candu-EZ, designed by the late Berkley Eastman, and was really intended for plywood. As it happens, shapes that can be built in plywood lend themselves to plating up in aluminum quite easily. The designs were featured in the ads section of WoodenBoat Magazine for decades

      @@360Crank thanks for the response. So, aluminum was not the originally intended build material. That's one heck of a modification. I've got some woodworking abilities, so I'd probably go that route since I have zero sheet metal experience. Though I have to admit that the aluminum definitely has a powerful cool factor.
      I will check out the Candu-EZ site for plans availability.
      Thanks again.

    Hi Mehmet. You are absolutely right, as I mentioned in my comment above. The customer wanted to have a lot of "bollard pull" as he was actually doing some work with it. The boat was never meant to plane, it just did.

      The boat is built to plans for "Candu-EZ" from Berkley Eastman.

    engine power is too much so speed is high. kort nozzle can make negative effect to thrust above 6 knot. but if a low power engine should be used, thrust addition was more effective.

    • @360Crank

      The noise was mostly from the Volvo powered crew boat which was the filming platform. The Minitug was a very quiet with a Honda outboard.
