In 2004, the ghost town was bought by Indian-American businessman Krishnan Suthanthiran for $5.7 million; he has spent $2 million maintaining the town.

An architectural firm, Unecon, designed the buildings and an engineering firm, Associated Engineering, designed the roads and services. I was responsible for the engineering design from 1979 through 1981. And worked with Ian Waters, the architect, to site and develop every lot individually so that the town did not look like a typical ;mine town'. At the time there was no road access and everything was either barged up from Vancouver by Rivtow, or flown in, usually in a Grumman Goose, from Rupert. We put in the sewer and water systems, and even had as satellite dish. There was a strike at the Endako Mine and the price of Moly hit around $30US/lb. The strike was settled and the price soon dropped back to something over $3US/lb. And that's when the mine shut down. Thanks for the posts. Bring back a whole lot of really good memories.

😂 for now, anyway! After living in NYC and NJ, maybe a nice quiet place is what I need!

If the mine had not shut down, I would probably still be living in Kitsault. I really love that place.

Was just there this past summer. Looks the same just with way more of the nature taking over.

True liminal spaces...gives ya the creeps! It's crazy that this was when it was abandoned 10ish years and now it's been another 30 years!

I heard that you have to call the caretaker to see if you can have a tour of the awesome town. 👍🙂

Phelps Dodge acquired the Moly deposit in 1999 after it was shut down in 82. AMAX reopened the mine in 1980, years after it had been operated by Keneco Exploration. There are a lot of incorrect facts in this video.
