A night at Suardalan bothy in the Scottish Highlands

  • I spent the night at Suardalan bothy before continuing with the Scottish National Trail.
    The walk in to the bothy was horrendous... hilly, boggy, rough terrain and I was constantly under attack by evil biting flying things that wanted to live in my hair. It's locations like this where you would only want to visit once, but otherwise an excellent clean, dry bothy with an excellent sleeping platform. A peaceful, relaxing evening, somebody left some wood so I was able to get the fire going and socks dried out, there was even some free food left behind!
    Bothy advice: If you are visiting a bothy folks, remember and take out your rubbish when you leave, there is no cleaner on duty!

      So sad to read this. I started doing the SNT about a year ago and have been really enjoying these funny wee videos. Mr Head For The Hills seemed like a decent bloke.

    Well done Mr Hills. I hate flies around my head when I'm walking, They gives me a head ache. The bothy seemed the best bet to clean up and feed your self. Thanks Steve.

      They were a nightmare Steve, horse flies I think. It's a good bothy, I went back there to film part of my future Cape Wrath Trail series as I couldn't get near the place earlier in the year when I passed.

    Good video and a lovely bothy...thanks for sharing. If the person who left the burgers took the time and trouble to write a message, I am surprised that he or she didn't make a note of the date and time they were left for the benefit of whoever followed on. Still, there you are...there's nowt so strange as folk. But it was very nice of him or her. Did the couple who arrived after you not speak before they left?

    • @hfthscot
      @hfthscot  Před 5 lety +1

      I let you in on a secret Ken, It was me that left the burgers there when I came in lol. (Grandma's best receipe should have given that away! haha. ) The couple wanted to share my room when they first arrived but I did my best to tempt them into the other room so that I could continue with my video. I even gave them some wood. I don't mind sharing but not too happy about sharing with a loved up couple, who may make more squeaky noises through the night than the mice!
