Kick ass, dude. I always wanted to build something like that using an old Romanian Roman truck and some parts from a UTB S650 tractor . My very own half-track. Actually seen a simpler design being built on TV from a big ass V8 pick-up truck.
The "Half Track" was used in WW2... I can tell this is different from the "Half Track"... but the proof of concept proves its viability... it can haul quite a load thru some difficult muddy terrain that other trucks would just get stuck or bottom out in.
@ 420 witchdoctor: the point is not to not get stuck, it's about low groundpressure, to prevent damage to the fields, forrest or...... They show it on rough terrain though to show it's nearly unstoppable. :)
@surfnfx at 3:57 it runs just fine down the road. IIRC the truck can still run down the road as it uses the dual tires at the front and rear with the track lug fitting between the tires to keep the track on. Pretty neat really.
Good idea having a half track like that. Band tracks are becoming far more more reliable. I"m not sure about military applications though. They've been tested on the M113 chassis and I think they'll need more development to deal with extremes of hot and cold for military use.
Saw the title and thought 'hover craft/truck?'. This is a half-track, technology pre-WWII. Germans used a lot of them, US had one that got a lot of use.
@Conservativepacheat You may not have noticed, but most of your American lorry manufacturers are actually in European ownership now. Mack, as an example, is owned by Renault.
@428ghost Yep Cold with Snow and Ice like here in Canada Would rip those rubber tracks apart Most of the reason we use chains On the tires If need be and rubber on Ice isn't very good At all If you want to move any were at an kind of speed.
@hotdogsandwiches its an all wheel drive it just uses fwd to save the rubber tracks looks funny yes but good idea none the less i say kudos good design and less pm on the half track idea
What keeps the tracks from slipping, either off or just letting the tires spin in the tracks? I couldn't see teeth on the drear wheels or on the inside of the tracks to keep them from throwing when cornering.
in some parts of the vid is it so that the front wheels have low air preassure in 'em to give more traction and less ground preassure? and secondly who is the (...) saying that u can't drive with a RWD car in winter without proper tires? in my understanding it's all the same RWD or FWD both equally fucked up in snow with bad tires.
As we can see half-truck are not in history, there are already here. Does anybody knows something about modern half-trucks? I woud like to know anything about it.
Not very useful because usually on a work-site before starting real work there's always some work done to clear up the road for trucks and this kind of truck is a loss of time and fuel.
meus parabéns ! que engenharia esse truck ! vai vende muitos essa marca !

Great concept, for such a big truck, works great

I am the biggest fan of tatra but i think this truck is amazing. Seems to go anywhere.
Os fazendeiros da trans Amasonica precisam de um caminhão como esse!!!

What a beast!!...am sure it can draw a plough!

spettacolo questo iveco!
problably the best truck of the world
Holy crap! Gotta have a word with my boss! I could use half-tracks on my rig to! That's friggin awesome!! =D

Great traction.

very nice!!Iveco super
reminds me of those "thunderbird"-trucks
I wouldn't be so sure lol. I work with tractors that use tracks and I get stuck plenty of times.
pěkná mašinka...je to sériová výriba nebo prototip?? kolik to cca stojí??
@Webber362 yes it can. on the highway its normal truck whit normal truck speed. no mods on the gearbox.
BELLISSIMA MACHINA

modern tractors have rubber tires that drive the tracks too
she got some nuts wicked bita gear!

brilliant :)
It's really interesting to watch!
Thats the fitst Front wheel drive big rig I've ever seen
@hotdogsandwiches probably all wheel drive, and when in "transportation mode" can be switched to just front wheel i assume
if you look closely at several parts in the vid you can see a driveshaft going fore and aft in the truck.its four wheel drive.
Гениально!
thats the craziest thing I've ever seen besides the half track from WW@
wow lovely truck...
i like this truck
bello davvero....
sembra un unimog oversize XD
quelli della iveco hanno avuto una bella idea
@infectedvector at 5.52 you could see the teeth between the two rear tires, just in the middle of the track!
@hotdogsandwiches its an all wheel drive it just uses fwd to save the rubber tracks looks funny yes but good idea none the less i say kudos good design and less pm on the half track idea
what a fucking awesome vehicle i want one!
Super Sache!!!
fuck thats clever!
the idea of a fwd truck towing itself kinda scares me though.. lol
что ж неплохо ) но я думаю что наши Уралы и Кразы на большее способны
It would be nice to see a normal wheeled truck on the same test to compare results.

nice truck!!
Although it's really useful on sand and other terrains in which a road can't be established.
E una cosa buna..veramente
passa come uno excavatore..senza problemi
brava l'Iveco !!
ของเขาดีจริงๆๆ
Big Truck ;)
are they used for heavy recovery from muddy area?
yes i like that truck with 2 tracks and can handle with a trailer while 2 front drive
@melangeken the best thing to compare this vehicle in the video with is a ww2 half tank
Wondering if they are allowed in Germany, and what about the maximum speed on usual streets?
good for all weather seasons
wow multifuncional

Super super...
I guess it must have front wheel drive for highway transport.
it goes through everything
in some parts of the vid is it so that the front wheels have low air preassure in 'em to give more traction and less ground preassure? and secondly who is the (...) saying that u can't drive with a RWD car in winter without proper tires? in my understanding it's all the same RWD or FWD both equally fucked up in snow with bad tires.
coole sache
wow!!
@Moon1p the iveco maybe. but the mods are pure dutch !!
