In the “Billie Eilish Experience” playlist on Spotify she explains the meanings and storylines behind the songs from her album. The storyline for this song is: Love is the scariest feeling in the world.
Also there are some people saying that this song is about her friend that was killed but it’s not. Yes there’s a song dedicated to him but this one is not it. She does often sing this song to him though which is why a lot of people think it’s about him. The meaning behind this song is rather long and complicated but it’s basically about her ex. Someone already explained it. This is one of my favorite songs from her, great vid 👍🏽

She wrote it to remember her friend Xxxtentacion who got murdered. She spranged her left ankle jumping during a show. Then she sprung the right ankle 6th jump of bad guy beg of show 3 weeks later. Do a reaction to Bellyache and Hostage! Both with videos. And also do live performances of bad guy and anything else you havent seen!!! I love love love Billie! Fans are crying because we love Billie and we feel her sadness. 💚💚💚

Definitely will this week when I am walking the pup! The songs always start to get stuck in my head after editing, and in the days following putting these videos out. That’s so crazy. I was telling someone else down here that I recently looked up that story about Xxx. I never heard his music, but I see people posting him a lot on Instagram. So messed up. He was just shopping and was targeted just because he was rich. In broad daylight. On film. So crazy. Geez, she must go hard at her shows then and not care! Didn't write it for him but dedicated it to him for one performance which made her cry, I'm sure this song will always now remind her of him. I saw her do it live recently and she was happy. She's in a much better place and it shows 😎

I personally interpret the lyrics as being about a long distance friendship turning into something more for a moment and it being scary and complicated. Hence the whole please tell me you didn’t just say what I think you said, please tell me our friendship won’t be ruined by this, you were just trying to make me laugh, it’s not true. And then either the parts of the song saying “i can’t escape the way I love you, and I don’t want to” is the other person, or it is the same person saying it eventually as well, kind of giving in, and admitting it after all, which ends with them in each other’s arms, acknowledging their love for each other (whether as friends after all, or as a new romantic relationship). Either way it’s for sure about love being scary (she’s said that bit in an interview) rather than about wanting what isn’t good for you, although I’m sure she’d be totally fine with your interpretation as well, she likes the variety of people’s interpretations.
You should listen to her album song by song. Hilarious intro n epic ending ❤

I am copying and pasting my response from another video. Weird two people in one day! I was wondering when people would notice-- Lol The hoodie is actually for two reasons. 1: when you see the cat in the black hoodie, you know it’s me! 2: I have had other channels and realized that a person only has so many articles of clothing. So eventually it starts to look like you wear the same thing all the time. Instead of thinking about that and alternating accordingly, I just decided I wear a black shirt and a black hoodie every time. (I think there may have been a couple times where I accidentally wore a different shirt underneath) In the summertime, it will most likely be too hot, so I may take it off. (To protest body shaming)
