I make soup on the regular and I find it very simple to throw any veggies, beans, herbs and make it delicious. I also eat canned soup so much because I can eat it at work conveniently! With all the soup I consume, I have to say: THE RATIO DOES MATTER FOR ME LOL!!! I love that you guys discussed this because this makes such a difference! Your descriptions are perfect, so thank you!!

I'm with Larisha, I prefer making my own soup too. (Batch cooking and freezing.) But like Andrew said, for traveling or whatever these would definitely work.

"Dirty water" 😂 ... Andrew sounds like my fiancé now, lol, he's not a soup fan either. Which makes me kind of sad as a soup lover, I've turned a couple of my Grandmothers recipes vegan but rarely make them and then end up freezing most of it when I do. I suppose I should see it as a win - more for me! But I would make them so much more often if we both enjoyed them.
I will happily wait for and later buy a cookbook from you two!! Until then, I visit your blog often - it's all appreciated. ♥
Ty for trying and sharing, I've been super curious about these! Hope you're all having a wonderful week.

You don’t have to take on another project right now, just pick your favorite recipe that you currently have in a cookbook. That way you get a feel for how much of a demand there is. personally i'm not into podcasts nor do i find that i have enough spare time to listen through a whole episode and actually pay attention to it lol which is def an unpopular opinion!! (even though i love yalls personalities and know you can talk for hours i could sadly never stick to it weekly) but for the cookbook side of things i'm totally into both! a beautiful, hardcover copy could definitely be a goal into next year or maybe even early 2023?? which gives plenty of time to not only create it but build your audience even higher on youtube so more people would be interested. an ebook is great too for now! i don't love using my phone for everything, especially cooking but i already pull up your website and find the recipe pretty fast anyways so i'm not in NEED of an ebook but it would be a cheap, user friendly way to find recipes i guess if you were cooking weekly or even daily especially family-sized vegan meals specifically!
oh and about the actual video, i haven't had any of these soups bc i hate how extremely high sodium canned soups can be but they look delish!! besides the...4 pieces of chikn hahah basically it's definitely better to make your own soup and throw in a bag of vegan chicken.

If I remember correctly (I could be wrong) but Lauren Toyota of Hot for Food said her first cookbook took about a year. I would love to see a cookbook from you guys but I know it would take awhile. If you released an e-book I would expect it to be a collection of your previous recipes, maybe by theme (like "Holidays" or "Quick Dinners"), with a couple of new recipes thrown in.

  • @jules_-dh8st

I’ve only had the beef and vegetable and the chicken noodle soup but I think they’re pretty solid for canned soups. Where I buy them, they’re closer to $3.00 so I don’t buy them very often but they are a good option if you want something that you can heat and serve quickly. Gardein is probably my favorite brand since I have tried a variety of their products and they have a good amount of solid products to choose from compared to some other brands. Also if you do an e-book or a full cookbook, I would love to see a vegan pepperoni roll recipe in there since I haven’t had them since I left West Virginia 4 years ago!😊

So I love them all except for the chicken ones. The chicken has a really weird aftertaste. The beef veg is my fav. And I agree the beef pieces should be smaller. I always end up cutting them up. I understand you can easily make soups butttt canned soups are very convenient - heat and serve. Honestly I had been hoping faux meat soups would be something brands would come out with because I'm tired of Progresso vegetarian veg and tomato soup. Lol and I feel like compared to regular canned soups. It's not supposed to be beef stew. It's beef vegetable soup. Lots of broth.

I still need to try the last 2, but in my opinion they’re good. I don’t understand the bad reviews unless it’s re: the ratio of veggies & vegan meat, but not with flavor. I can say though, for me, I’m more about the veggies, rice & broth over “meat” chunks.

Have you guys tried the Upton's or Plantstrong soups? Plantstrong is a really good (vegan) option for people looking for low sodium and oil free. I like both of those quite a bit and, of course, Amy's, too - it's a classic brand for soups. That chili, though. The Gardein soups were fine IMO, but I would rank lower than all three of those and think it's probably at the bottom of my list for Gardein products. The soups just don't live up to the tastiness of their other products such as the Ultimate line or f'sh filets.

In regards to the first can of soup you tasted, the beef and vegetable, there definitely is a “beef and vegetable soup” on the market! Sometimes it has barley in it it’s called beef vegetable and barley soup. I’ve had the Gardein soup and I do not think it supposed to be “beef stew“ but I will say that I would cook extra rice and serve it on top and use it as a beef stew, even though I don’t think that’s the what they intended. It halo stretch the high price by serving over rice. I think they are quite tasty considering they’re trying to mimic something that had meat.

If you did mini books focused on themes like bread or soup it might be a manageable task and more practical for the user. I am not trying to drag out a ten pound giant book that costs $40 on to the counter while I cook getting everything dirty, taking up a bunch of space, and I have to focus on cooking while trying to read and protect the book. I know he's a perfectionist and the quality of your videos is very high, but the type of book he would make a piece of art and you don't set a beautiful painting next to your stand mixer.

I hated the beef one but the chicken flavors I keep home for nights I don’t want to cook, they’re not amazing but good

I should mention they have these soups in Kroger so you don't have to go to whole foods

Those canned soups are so salty. They are great as starter soups. I add onions, potatoes, limas, kale, corn and whatever veggies available with milk or veggie stock. I turn that small can of soup into a big pot of soup.

Most canned vegan stuff tends to be pretty bad if you don’t spice it up. Not sure why. Guess it’s like any other canned goods. That might be a good idea, though, canned products that are actually good.

I tried the chikin noodle and chikin and rice and both lacked flavor. Was too bland for me to buy again.

Canned soup is a rip off. To much sodium. Not enough substance. I make awesome soups. One of my favorite things to cook. I have turned all my old recipes into plant based soups. So satisfying.

How much did Gardein pay you for this video? (you really should mention when a video is sponsored, thank you). Also the way she pronounces Minestrone is priceless
