I love the use of toms in a lot of songs on The Blackening/Unto the Locust and this is no exception, awesome playthrough. That snare sounds unbelievable.

Times where different back in the 90s / early 2000' when I started playing drums as a teenager… no CZcams back then ! Today, I totally appreciate these looks behind the scenes and playthrough videos of professionals and wished these where around back in the day.

I always envy drummers, I'm a guitarist of 19 years, and I've always loved watching drummers, they're 90% of the sound, foundation. They are the true leaders of the band. You did a pretty damn good job, one take? If so, yeah, show worthy.

im a guitarrist too and i agree 100%! I program my own drums on computer as a base concept for my riffs and song structure ideas. I love watching drummers to get better understanding of some patterns and fills, i usually write riffs thinking rhythmically first before putting notes on guitar.
This is your best video yet I think Mr Alston. Those fills are singing man!! I had to go back to watch them again and again.

I dunno if it's his kit or him hitting the drums like a hillbilly hits his wife, but several parts of this song (most notably that drum roll going into the solo) are meaty enough that I almost prefer this cover over the original drum track.
Similar effect with the beefy drum sound on the live tracks on Motorhead's Aftershock (Tour Edition) album. The drum sound is so much more satisfying than the studio version.

I have one comment/question, but please feel free to disregard it as I know everyone's a f***ng critic these days: How focused are you on snare and kick hitting at exactly the same time when you play them, avoiding flams between snare and kick? I notice it when you lead with the left hand on the china, for instance, that kick and snare start flamming a bit.

To be honest, I try not to focus too heavily on the tiny details like snare/kick flaming - obviously I want to be as tight as possible, but I find the more you try and focus on things like that, the worse they become!
Also, I’m human - not a computer…and my arms and legs won’t always be in perfect time🤣🤘🏻
