If you watched my previous LS Swap Engine Video • LS Swap My Jeep Wrangl... you will know all the sweet details of what we have so far.
For those of you who are new, welcome! I am swapping in a Gen3 5.3 LS engine into my 2006 Jeep Wrangler LJ.
In the previous video i talked about the HP and TQ numbers, and mentioned that i am going to install a nice cam to bump those up a tad.
In this video, we install a Stage 2 5.3 Truck Cam from Texas Speed and Performance. amzn.to/3ooF6uP
This is a great cam for the 5.3. Its a mid range cam.. So its perfect for Offroad rigs that also see street useage.
A racing cam would take away some power on the low end, and add it to the high RPM range... Thats not what i want in my Jeep.
I cant wait for this LS engine swap to be in my Jeep wrangler, its going to be a blast to drive!! I know alot of you are excited to see the process of whats actually needed to swap it into the Jeep. But i will say that all of these "Pre Steps", working on the engine, etc, is very important to make sure a V8 swap goes as smooth as possible.
If you are planning a LS swap, or maybe you already have a truck or car with an LS, then a simple cam swap and tune can be an amazing way to add some safe power to your build.
Other things youll need for this job:
Harmonic Balancer Puller: amzn.to/3kqOJ9W
A new Cam cover plate (Not installed in this video, still waiting for it to come in) amzn.to/3jtU2UR
Assembly Lube: amzn.to/3opmtHe
Valve Spring Compressor tool : bit.ly/3jpePcC
FYI: Discount Code for anything on MaxpeedingRods website, Jeepgear
Paint Supplies:
Primer: amzn.to/31EtPNg
High Heat silver: amzn.to/37AlTAt
High Heat Metalcast: amzn.to/37Fyrqe
High Heat Clearcoat: amzn.to/3jrfWIu
This low lift cam is a very easy install. And being a low lift cam, it makes it a little cheaper. We can keep our factory pushrods and lifters, as well as run a stock Transmission Torque Convertor.
All we have to do is change out the cam and install some new LS6 valve springs.
I cant wait to hear what this cam and engine sounds like on the first start up, so make sure to subscribe to find out!!!
And last note.... For all of you die hard HEMI fans... stay tuned.... You will love to see what i have sitting in the driveway :) - Auta a dopravní prostředky

"I feel dirty filming this"lol.....
Buddy when ya was getting ready to put cam in i was like talking to the screen “ please pit assembly lube on, please put assembly lube on “ ! Lol and was so relieved to see you guys do it right and use it . I am a factory trained Harley mechanic so am anal about that kinda thing and have seen so many here on youtube not useing assembly lube.. so thanks for not spazzing out my OCD , and doing it the right way😂😂😂
@Demo Rcr if it were me i would get the shop manual and check and see what the “Cold” gap is supposed to be .. and you will need to make sure both valves are “Closed” when you check the gap.. hydraulic lifters will only account for so much adjustment.. so make sure they are all within those specs , now that is for a engine with adjustable rocker arms .. if they are not adjustable well then it is what it is and im sure you will be fine , unless you have a collapsed lifter , then you will have to pull rocker arm rack pull lifter and replace .. hope this helps
You should change that oil pump, who knows how much life it has left, you have it apart, install a new one in case it fails and save your engine and peace of mind.
OK here's a real OCD comment. Cyl 1 has to be set at TDC on the compression stroke. .... Update.. As I was typing this you guys pulled the timing cover and figured it out. Good job! Keep rockin Cass!!!!!!
That is a nice looking LS. Love the red accents. One of the few I've seen that isn't covered in oil
As usual, it's always interesting to watch your videos . Congratulations.
Great Video> good flow! you know your stuff, looking forward to seeing more
Great job Cassie, You are doin how to and update videos like a Boss! Keep jeepin classy Cassie!
Good job Cassie!
Really enjoy your videos. Each one better than the last. Oh yeah, Ben’s too.
awesome --- bring back memories from 40 years ago! Fun fact .... not replacing valve springs can lead to horrendous outcomes! in the early eighties as a teen did my first cam swap (no youtube) and didn't replace the springs when putting in the new mopar purple shaft cam --- result was not immediate but after about 12 hours of driving suddenly serious failure where several push rods broke/bent and even nearly shot through the valve covers! lesson learned ;) --- thankfully no serious internal damage.
Great video- I installed Switch pros for my lockers.
Nicely done! Way to show a budget friendly rebuild option.
Well this is going to be the best 14:06 of my day!🤓👍
BEST JEEP CONTENT CHANNEL ON CZcams!
Can’t wait for the next vid going to get ready to do a LS for my wife’s jeep and this is helpyalot
I want to know how a woman who is an accountant, learned so much about mechanics! You're amazing!
Why does being a woman have anything to do with it?
@@jonsanchez55 How many women do you know who can tear down and rebuild a motor.....I'll wait....
Great as always!
The army green ❤️!
Great job! Texas Speed Truck Cam is FANTASTIC for the price. Just make sure you get it tuned to maximize power and efficiency. In my truck, it ran like a scalded dog, but wouldn't idle until the timing and injectors were tuned just right. Keep up the good work! Your build is gonna be SICK!
Gotta get one of those oil caps!!! LOL! Great job!
Thanks, You give out a ton of information.
Great engine build, should make the Jeep a Hot Rod! Welcome to Texas!
Nice work!
Nice video and I am starting to learn about sPOD switches.
Hubby N wife team...U cracked me up LOL!! Good stuff
For lockers I used the MLC-6 from Rough Country. I know their lift kits sucks but their electronics are great. I’ve had no issues with my MLC-6 and am very happy with it. Super easy install, super easy to use, and very nice quality.
Its so funny you also rockin Crocks like hubby
Switch pro with the eaton lockers on the currie 44 axel! Great video
Mo' powa' baby !!!
Cuter than Lite Brite Brittany, and actually does work! Oh...... nuclear family, 2 kids.......not belly shirts. Rock on Cass.
Hola saludos desde Venezuela excelente trabajo me gusta tu video
Im ganna LS swap my 01 xj , I like your videos 👌🏻 , I want to see when you put your lockers on the jeep
I went with the twin ARB mounted under pass seat, spod over the rear view mirror, and ARB lockers in my dynatrac pro rock 60’s
Great video
nice job!
Great vid Casey. I don't have lockers but if you want to go unique I would say do something else that you like and looks good to you.
Same cam I’m going with for my ls swap in my xj.
Because they're so cheap I recommend replacing the lifter trays.
I can’t wait to see the rest of this swap...then we can race our LJs someday lol
9:20 I like to lube one journal at a time. Lube from the rear, stick it in to the first journal, lube to the next journal, stick it in further, lube to the next journal, etc. It seems a little cleaner. But different strokes for different folks.
Exhaust bolts: nickel anti-seize. Without it, your garage is as naked as a kitchen without butter. Stay away from junk grade [part copper/part pot metal], which will bake out and underperform after a years time.
Great video, I'm playing catch up.
Probably too late for this but highly recommend Brian tooley v2 torque can for any 5.3 application. It’s like a magic cam for Offroad or DD type use
Great vid. Very enjoyable. Smoking hot btw. You guys keep if they great work.
Awsome!
May wanna look into a trunion upgrade for your rocker arms. Fairly easy with a shop vise. The factory used needle bearings that are know to migrate around the engine when they fail.
Right, it is one of the weak links in LS motors.
You guys should do a break down of the total cost of the LS Swap. Its looking nice :)
love the video it was great the new v8 would be great
this is awesome
Recommend a balancer install tool so that you don’t trash your crank by forcing it together with the bolt, or if you hear the balancer up it will slide on without any tools necessary.
I'm looking forward to the swap series. I am in the Houston area and have an LJ . I only have 60k miles, but I am tired of no power and 10 mpg out of my 4.0.
I wont even think about a swap unless it will be emission legal. Harris and Galveston county plug into the obd2 system as part of the annual inspection.....
Looks good
Nice!!
I am in the middle of an axle swap and I am hooking up my front and rear locker actuators with my S-Tech switches.
I actually just made a post on the Facebook JK GAG page about locker wiring up! But I’m swapping jk rubi axles into my JK sport, and it’s just a normal pos/neg wiring, I wired mine up to my VoSwitch pod (basically a Spod) very simple wiring!
I have an arb front locker that I run with co2 tank, ran an air line to the to the dash then used an 18 wheeler air switch to send air to the locker
U should put i high volume melling oil pump that is the heart of the engine
And the oil service modifications calling for more volume are what? You have to do something in most cases: add squirters for pistons; extra/custom oiling for rockers; add/resize a turbo oil line... something. That little phase 2 cam is a fine choice, but it's not headed for 8k+ rpm where you begin to worry about oil stripping from bearings.
You guys do great vids. Love the content...but I also think it's time to invest in some LED lighting for the garage.
Lol we put LEDs in the garage when we moved in, but the light covers are trash. Looking into replacing those with something different.
Rockers switch in the vents for front e locker amd rear air. Lights on a cheaper switch panel.
Pepper grind that cam yeah!
Soy su Fan !
When you do a new Camshaft you need to do new lifters Gm has a soft Cam So it's always wise when you do a new Cam to put new Lifters in And it will save you a headache
Not with this cam
@@JeepGearGadgets which brand leggings are the all dark green ones?
Why should you change roller lifters with a cam?
@@mazevx2451 Because the way they wear that you always changed you lifters looking you can
I would caution you on installing a cam like that as it damages the cam bearings. There should always be a handle used or two bolts from the water pump to gently, without too much motion, slide the cam in place. Oil pump and pick up tube o ring are a must especially with the cam change.
The hubby should drop to his knees every day and thank God he found a really good woman. Pray, everyday.
Keeping an eye on this build myself. I have a 1983 Jeep CJ7 that I am trying to decide between LS, Mopar 360, Hemi, AMC 360 or stroker motor swap. It is going to eventually be on 40's like my JK is.
I have a SPOD in my jk. But wish I went with a switch pros as it’s water proof.
I would find factory TJ or LJ rubicon locker switches, wire in the jk axel lockers into a TJ LJ axel locker switch, I don’t think many people would agree but that’s just me
For your lockers I would just get a couple switches and relays and wire them in. No need to go the SPOD route for a couple of electric lockers.
8:12. I second that. Comp Cams are knowledgeable dudes. They know their shit and definitely want to help you choose the best cam. I love the roller cam in my 1990 Silverado.
Is it just me, or is that intake tall? I'm more of a gen 1 sbc guy but that intake looks super tall. Nice long runners for great low end torque. Maybe it's the bare valvecovers without the coil packs that's throwing me off. Where did you say you found the intake again? I like the Fast stuff, but I'm not going to spend $1000 on an intake manifold.
How you all doing hope you loving the weather down here
Dial indicator helps with getting cyl1 to tdc, and lifters and trays are worth replacing. Looks like a good clean used motor though! Great work! Looking forward to seeing it all go together. Look up Novak-adapt.com if you haven't already. Their swap parts are nearly fool proof!
I would put double roller timing gear
Next time add candle wax after heating tip of day. cool channel
What’s the plan for engine management and tuning since you have a new Cam I am using Holly terminator X max for my 03 TJ with a 5.3 Lm7 with a BTR stg4 truck cam should be back on the streets in the next week or so
Obviously it strongly depends on what you pay for the used engine to start with but approximately how much did you have to spend all total in parts and specialty tools? Thanks!
The BTR torque cam would have been perfect for the jeep
I concur, after watching Holdener's tests
@@thomasharvanek2411 yep that's where I got the idea
IMPORTANT: while watching your video I noticed the grey jack stands on the left side of the white frame bench and if they are "Pittsburg Automotive" which is a Harbor Freight brand, there is a recall on them as they unexpectedly collapse. PLEASE check it as soon as possible! and pass the word.
Do you have any type of link for the intake manifold? Thank you much. 🤙🏻
This is the NHTSA recall link: www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/consumer-advisory-harbor-freight-jack-stands
Not sure if you did it or not but you should really replace the cam retaining plate and the barbell in the rear of the engine.
Sorry man much respect. I can't watch this and learn I feel like a 5th grader being asked to do a quiz in front of the class. Lmao. I want to do a hemi swap in my jk cant wait for your vids on the jk as my 3.8 os not for my jeep as it is having issues. But I guess my question is do I need to replace first before dropping a v8 on a sport wrangler. 09?
Been trying to do a engine swap for my 2009 jeep wrangler what do you guys recommend for my I want to do everything myself not take it to someone
Cassie > Britney from Bright Lite
Only thing I would have done differently is change the timing chain and gears with the engine having 100k plus
Do you have a link to that intake?
Whats the link to that intake?
😎👍
👍
Nice to see a young lady that isn't covered in tats!(especially in a shop!)
I want an oil breather that gives me that much horsepower!
Remove that plastic oil filler neck and just put that new oil cap straight on the valve cover.
@ 9:35 cue Barry White music
1) gear ratio in diffs?
2) transmission: 4l60e?
3) front sway bar?
The 4l80e way stronger
Do you or Ben have any prior experience building / repairing engines? You two seem to have quite a bit of knowledge on it. I’m assuming lots and lots of research. Because I’d be clueless on how to even start a rebuild. It would take me months of research haha
the great thing about LS they’re extremely easy to work on and learn
What is your head casting numbers ?
Is this engine better then the early jeep 4.0?
What year 5.3L engine are you installing?
Did you decide on a new channel name yet?
