If you watched my previous LS Swap Engine Video • LS Swap My Jeep Wrangl... you will know all the sweet details of what we have so far.
For those of you who are new, welcome! I am swapping in a Gen3 5.3 LS engine into my 2006 Jeep Wrangler LJ.
In the previous video i talked about the HP and TQ numbers, and mentioned that i am going to install a nice cam to bump those up a tad.
In this video, we install a Stage 2 5.3 Truck Cam from Texas Speed and Performance. amzn.to/3ooF6uP
This is a great cam for the 5.3. Its a mid range cam.. So its perfect for Offroad rigs that also see street useage.
A racing cam would take away some power on the low end, and add it to the high RPM range... Thats not what i want in my Jeep.
I cant wait for this LS engine swap to be in my Jeep wrangler, its going to be a blast to drive!! I know alot of you are excited to see the process of whats actually needed to swap it into the Jeep. But i will say that all of these "Pre Steps", working on the engine, etc, is very important to make sure a V8 swap goes as smooth as possible.
If you are planning a LS swap, or maybe you already have a truck or car with an LS, then a simple cam swap and tune can be an amazing way to add some safe power to your build.
Other things youll need for this job:
    Harmonic Balancer Puller: amzn.to/3kqOJ9W
A new Cam cover plate (Not installed in this video, still waiting for it to come in) amzn.to/3jtU2UR
    Assembly Lube: amzn.to/3opmtHe
Valve Spring Compressor tool : bit.ly/3jpePcC
FYI: Discount Code for anything on MaxpeedingRods website, Jeepgear
    Paint Supplies:
    Primer: amzn.to/31EtPNg
    High Heat silver: amzn.to/37AlTAt
    High Heat Metalcast: amzn.to/37Fyrqe
    High Heat Clearcoat: amzn.to/3jrfWIu
This low lift cam is a very easy install. And being a low lift cam, it makes it a little cheaper. We can keep our factory pushrods and lifters, as well as run a stock Transmission Torque Convertor.
All we have to do is change out the cam and install some new LS6 valve springs.
I cant wait to hear what this cam and engine sounds like on the first start up, so make sure to subscribe to find out!!!
And last note.... For all of you die hard HEMI fans... stay tuned.... You will love to see what i have sitting in the driveway :)

Buddy when ya was getting ready to put cam in i was like talking to the screen “ please pit assembly lube on, please put assembly lube on “ ! Lol and was so relieved to see you guys do it right and use it . I am a factory trained Harley mechanic so am anal about that kinda thing and have seen so many here on youtube not useing assembly lube.. so thanks for not spazzing out my OCD , and doing it the right way😂😂😂

@Demo Rcr if it were me i would get the shop manual and check and see what the “Cold” gap is supposed to be .. and you will need to make sure both valves are “Closed” when you check the gap.. hydraulic lifters will only account for so much adjustment.. so make sure they are all within those specs , now that is for a engine with adjustable rocker arms .. if they are not adjustable well then it is what it is and im sure you will be fine , unless you have a collapsed lifter , then you will have to pull rocker arm rack pull lifter and replace .. hope this helps

You should change that oil pump, who knows how much life it has left, you have it apart, install a new one in case it fails and save your engine and peace of mind.

awesome --- bring back memories from 40 years ago! Fun fact .... not replacing valve springs can lead to horrendous outcomes! in the early eighties as a teen did my first cam swap (no youtube) and didn't replace the springs when putting in the new mopar purple shaft cam --- result was not immediate but after about 12 hours of driving suddenly serious failure where several push rods broke/bent and even nearly shot through the valve covers! lesson learned ;) --- thankfully no serious internal damage.

    • @flinch622
      @flinch622 Před 3 lety +1

And the oil service modifications calling for more volume are what? You have to do something in most cases: add squirters for pistons; extra/custom oiling for rockers; add/resize a turbo oil line... something. That little phase 2 cam is a fine choice, but it's not headed for 8k+ rpm where you begin to worry about oil stripping from bearings.

I would caution you on installing a cam like that as it damages the cam bearings. There should always be a handle used or two bolts from the water pump to gently, without too much motion, slide the cam in place. Oil pump and pick up tube o ring are a must especially with the cam change.

Is it just me, or is that intake tall? I'm more of a gen 1 sbc guy but that intake looks super tall. Nice long runners for great low end torque. Maybe it's the bare valvecovers without the coil packs that's throwing me off. Where did you say you found the intake again? I like the Fast stuff, but I'm not going to spend $1000 on an intake manifold.
