UPDATE on My AMG A45 S! | FIRST DRIVE

- I've got some news about my order for the new AMG A45 S! Visiting the home of AMG in Affalterbach for my first opportunity to test drive the new pocket rocket, it's an opportunity to experience what it's all about and think more about the future Shmeemobile.
The new generation of A45 from AMG comes as both an S and non-S model, for former offered 421hp and 500nm with a 2.0l turbo 4-cyl engine that's now built and assembled on site by AMG in Affalterbach. In addition it's loaded with technology and trickery including a Drift Mode for misbehaviour, Race Start launch control that performs simply remarkably even in the wet weather, plus an 8-spd dual clutch gearbox, and huge amounts of internal tech.
Picking the car up from AMG let's have a quick walkaround of this subtle spec without the aero package and with a brown leather interior, before then hitting the roads to run through the different modes. With the torrential rain quickly arriving, the 4MATIC+ system helps out but also demonstrates with a launch control how even a soaked surface won't hinder the performance levels.
So, what do I think? With previous mixed reports, I'm firmly in the camp that this is a very fun car to drive, and the overall package is truly stunning for the money. As to what's happening in my garage, there's some discussion to be had around this as my recent travels (and planned future travels) might require a slimming of the number of cars on order. With an A45 S arriving somewhere in early 2020, it wouldn't see huge amounts of usage and might not be the most logical decision, but the heart says it's a pretty epic little thing to drive! Let's see...

I had a 6.1L V8 once and it was making 400hp and 400 torque. It felt like there is an elephant sitting in front of the car. It is amazing to see that you can get that out of a 2L 4 cylinder now.
When you look at it like that it really is. I mean even a Mustang is on the market with a 5.0l V8 making barely more power than this

Evo's back in 2004 that had 400bhp out of the 2.0L engine,and more recently were selling Evo 10's with 440bhp.
Don't get me wrong the A45s is a great car but it is not the first 2.0L turbo to put out over 400bhp.

Probly just cold. Timing chain driven cars do make more noise than timing belt cars. Ive just got my polo and it does get quiet when warm.

Hey Tim. I have an idea: Every time you show the engine and open the bonnet, you can quickly turn off the A/C so there wont be as much noise. The most prominent noise was the cooling fans.

LOL, you must not bee familiar with how these things work. If you think Ford cares that a bought a couple cheapo focuses, you're mistaken. People bought hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Ford's to try to get a GT, including the previous gen, and Ford didn't care. They don't care one bit about how many gourds you own, when it comes to getting a GT. For some reason people think that is the way it works with special edition cars, but they can see through that nonsense. They know when someone buys a bunch of cars to attempt to get a place in line.

A very honest and enthusiastic review. Ive just bought my partner an AMG A35 which I am sure will suffice and strike a nice balance of around town and enthusiastic country driving. But certainly I think this A45 smashes the RS3 for driving fast. It looks awesome too especially without the bolt on spoiler. More classy. We pick up out A35 in two days and I have had the rear spoiler changed back to the standard. Exhaust and front spoiler remain.

Mark Gilbert it was incredibly ratelly. Sounded like a broken radiator fan, but it was probably because it’s a smoke engine.

Carwow did a 0-62 comparison. A45S did it in 3.8 and RS3 in 4.1 (I think). Think they were making comparisons throughout the review of the A45 but not a proper test comparison

everybody is comparing 2,5 L to a 2,0, 5-cylinder to a 4-cylinder. you guys do know that even with a touch more power,the advantage should still go to the Audi. the power characteristics are different between the two. also the bigger engine,more cylinders,helps/ fact! ever heard of the saying: there aint no substitute for cubes? bigger engine, cant be ignored. the bigger,the better,just plain facts. but to me the fact that a 2,0 4-cyl runs the way it does,is great. i prefer the 5cyl sound,and in my book,you have to compare two equal engines with each other. that would be fair. just stating facts and my personal opinion.

The only negative I can come up with for this remodel is the engine doing the 180 degree turn. With the turbo in the back it seems to have moved the engine forward quite a bit (engine being the heaviest portion) meaning putting more weight forward of the front axle. Everyone says it still handles great can't wait to try one for myself.
