    Echo review of Disney Marvels new Disney+ streaming series. But you'll find it hard watch because the audio cuts out regularly all for the benefit of the main actress. Who on the set had deaf people to teach her because she preferred to not need a translator, so do I! Can I have some audio please. Release the dubbed cut. If Disney require an English dub for an already English TV series just because they refuse to speak, then thats a 2024 I can laugh at. But even if it had audio, the pacing is slow, the story nonsensical and it's like they started at the category boxes of the actress and didn't plan any further. After this episode, the next review will just be a summary of the highlights, because there are so many sections of nothing happening. The series is a farce. But what do you think? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

      I love the part where Kingpin had her shot for no explicable reason. It kind of seemed like he always kept a sign interpreter around him, like maybe she doubles taking minutes at mafia boss meetings or something, but no, she just had that one job of interpreting Echo for 5 minutes a couple of times per year. But he said he killed her to keep their conversations private, even though he always has 10 bodyguards whenever he's talking to Echo. Does he screen them to make sure they don't know ASL? I guess the eyepiece was supposed to fix that maybe? But then he still had to talk to make the Microsoft Clippy interpreter work. It's so dumb it hurts my brain trying to make it make sense.

    I am a Native American descendant (Koasek) and utilize ASL since my son is nonverbal. This show is a slap in the face to Native Americans and also to users of ASL as we can see the numerous errors in their signing. Whoever did this show didn't care at all for authenticity, only for virtue signaling. This is just what we expect these days though. It's become so predictable that I'm gonna be shocked as fuck when they produce something believable and entertaining. Also, Daredevil would have mopped the floor with this bint in about three seconds... the difference in skill level, strength, and experience is absolutely ridiculous. She would not have survived their encounter. Clearly, her real super power is plot armor... I guess we wouldn't have had a show if Daredevil had been portrayed accurately... oh wait... nothing of value would have been lost...

      One thing I’ve noticed is how very much Hollywood loves stereotypical, lazy “representation” seemingly now more than ever, but have the audacity to feel morally superior for it. I remember seeing a video about blue beetle on nerdrotic’s second channel where he and FNT talked about the over-the-top stereotypical attitude of that movie, _and the comments chewed them out for racism with more racism._ The movie writers made the specific choice to write in a Tacoma for the dad so they could make a taco joke about Mexicans, but it’s apparently more racist to point that out than it is to make that lazy, overdone joke in the first place. The difference? It was a panel of mostly white guys (not even all of them, which makes the following claim even more ridiculous), which makes it inherently racist, because how would they know? It’s not like human sense can tell when a race joke is just a lazy stereotype. I knew a deaf person who was terrible at speaking, but I was told back then that our healthcare system by then would make sure that they are trained better. Given what I was told, there are methods that usually work pretty well, but older deaf people simply had no access to those. What I was told back then was that it was a major goal to teach nearly all of them how to speak as it helps tremendously in life.

      Idk, it’s different when you’re talking about Americans, since we’re a melting pot of all kinds of races. It’s not exactly the polite or accepted thing to do to boil all indigenous American tribes into even the same people, let alone “just Americans”. It doesn’t at all delineate that Americans are, in fact, made of vastly different and innumerable groups of people. You wouldn’t exactly say the Irish, Scottish, welsh, and English are all the same people because they’re all from the UK; you certainly wouldn’t call the British and French the same. They’re both European people groups, yes, but they’re still very different and very proud of that fact. It’s much more pronounced in America.
      It’s more ridiculous to claim you’re so special for representing someone from a specific area in a nation that has a specific ethnicity or set of ethnicities that comprise it, than it is to take a member of a small ethnicity in a vast nation made of peoples from all over the globe. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still really dumb to act as if it’s some awesome and historic thing, but a Choctaw in America is not the same as a welsh guy from Newport to the rest of the UK.

That very sign should be easy to find in Oklahoma, as the wording and even the font are accurate and could be found in many locations across the state. But the letters in "OKLAHOMA" are put so close together that the L overlaps the A, which you won't find on any of our signs. The sad part is that they couldn't even be bothered to drive around and find a road sign to use in the shot, or at least take a second look at their work to make sure it looks good.
    As it is, it looks like they took the lettering from an old Oklahoma license plate and superimposed it on a small roadside billboard, and found that the word "OKLAHOMA" was too long, so they squeezed the letters together. Then they took a picture of a Chocktaw Nation sign and superimposed it underneath.

    I would like to point out that windshields don't shatter on impact because that would be bad in frontal collisions with things like birds. Other windows do shatter, and are made of tempered glass, but windshields are specifically annealed and crack, which is why you can still see out of your windshield after a rock smashes it. If it was tempered it would be unable to be driven due to occlusions from the spiderweb of cracks.
    However, that was a comical piece of glass and it's more likely to kill you than sever your leg.

    • @davidgantenbein9362
      @davidgantenbein9362 Před 5 měsíci +11

      The windshield on the front is laminated to prevent any real fracturing. The glasses on the sides of the car are built to crumble into harmless pieces. It should be impossible to create a piece of glass like that in a car accident. And what’s even worse: a ton of Hollywood films showed us laminated windshields, so it’s not even a „but in Hollywood“ thing like exploding cars.
      What I don’t understand is that in many car accidents people do get stuck and need to be freed by cutting them out. Limbs can absolutely be harmed by such an accident and it’s not uncommon to lose one. It’s just not the windshield cutting it off. So why go for such a bad version, when basically most decent writers should know better? … but then again, the other car only has lights on seconds before impact, so „realism“ wasn’t a big part of the scene and the explanation was probably „a wizard did it“.

Like in a real fight one blow to your head from someone heavier then you and it's practically over. If you're lucky you might get off with a light concussion. There is a reason why there are weight divisions in all sporting fighting. Now for story telling purposes it's easy to ignore the reality of that with magical powers and so on. But I wish they showed actual struggle and the MC getting injured, make them have to retreat from some fights. How many trained fighters do you see beating up gangs? Not many if any. The single fighter usually gets bonked on the back of the head or some stray hit gets them down.

And even then, unless the guy is _seriously_ out of shape (and she's an Olympic track World Record holder), he will accelerate far quicker than her, have a much higher top speed than her and be able to run significantly further than her without tiring so she better hope those bystanders are _really_ close. It may be because Makaton may be less complex than ASL, but Justin never spoke ridiculously slowly to accomodate his signing - he spoke regularly and signed at the same time. This meant that the show was accessible to both disabled and abled viewers and was fun and engaging on top of that. Whereas, Echo seems to only be aimed at the deaf community, which, naturally, does not make up a very large percentage of a TV show's viewing audience.

    To be fair, I don't think they changed the hand signal to avoid using the "OK" hand signal. The sign I learned for it (years before the WP meme) is to fingerspell O and K, which is what she did in that scene. The usual english OK hand signal itself is just the letter F.
    Edit: LOL "You look the same." Ok, that one is signed wrong. You're supposed only point at two things that look the same if you're saying those two things look the same. He's literally signed "WE look the same" by pointing with his thumb at himself and at her with his pinkie... if you just want to say something is the same without comparing it, you just make that sign, knuckles pointed the person, and swipe side to side with the pinkie and thumb pointed at nothing or no one you're talking about. Also, "look the same" is supposed to be a compound sign, not sign "look" then "same".

    • @rogelioortiz3003
      @rogelioortiz3003 Před 5 měsíci +4

      I'm not fluent, in fact, I only know a few dozen words and the alphabet (kind of) and numbers. But I've worked with deaf people. And, as I've heard, when ASL was created, it sort of threw the language out of whack, because different regions had different 'accents'.
      Anyways, it was distinguished for me that "okay" is with your pointer finger and thumb make a circle, whereas "F" has the pointer finger and thumb make a teardrop shape (like squeezing the last digits of the fingers). And "9" seems only different by how the other fingers are curled, while making the circle. Really, context helps out a lot.
      But watching two ppl sign, and having learned the super basics years before, there were still discrepancies. Our "G" was different (basically a sideways "Q", but I learned it without using the thumb). Other letters were just oriented slightly differently.

    • @aquapuppy9838
      @aquapuppy9838 Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@rogelioortiz3003 I will concede it's possible that different dialects may have included the okay hand signal is also their ASL for OK, I've just never encountered it from an ASL speaker or teacher.
      I'm not certain the distinction for the precise shape of the letter F, the number 9, and the ok hand signal is particularly useful, however, because fingerspelling is fundamentally fast and dirty. If you're making the shape of the series of letters for a word you're spelling looks like the word you're spelling, people will understand. If you've ever seen someone who needs ASL sign the word "bus" the letter U almost doesn't exist, it just looks like they're going from the letter B to the closed fist of the S, from pinkie to index. I will agree with you, it is the context that makes the language work so loosely, however.
      It's possible this is why you've noticed discrepancies in the fingerspelling of different letters, too, based on your experience with signers. As an example, I could tell she is signing "OK," yet the tip of her thumb is not appearing between her two main fingers of the sign for K... is that technically correct, or a different dialect? Or is it possible she's just signing fast, and I could tell what she meant? And I couldn't even see the letter O she signed, was it perfectly round, or teardrop shaped? Doesn't matter, is the answer.
      I do however, think that the script appears to have been translated by someone who has declared themselves to be capable of looking up words for each word of every line that requires an ASL translation and probably doesn't understand what they're doing, fundamentally. Otherwise, so many basic mistakes would not have been made, such as the "we look the same" line.

      I’m guessing they didn’t like some of the stuff that didn’t fit their narratives. I should look up each tribes creation stories and that’s probably where some of the issues stem from.

      @@Docktavion It’s what I‘m thinking, despite the „representation is most important“, they immediately switch out anything they don’t like for stereotypes, because they absolutely don’t care about representation as in who those people are, just in how many brownie points it gives on x-itter.

    I'm so glad I lived through and can look back at Hollywood and Disney when they actually made interesting entertainment that was original and inspiring instead of what we have now, which is beyond drivel. I want to be entertained and not lectured and messaged about disabilities, gender identity issues etc

      We've been watching old movies every weekend, and it's like a trip to a world that didn't go insane. Competent males, sensible stories, and good morals all abound. It feels unreal to feel joy at watching movies again!
