- Passing someone's open guard is one of the most complicated and challenging things facing any jiu-jitsu practitioner which is why it is important to have a system that you can easily force on your opponent so you can impose your game.

This is the best BJJ channel out there.
Jon is also one of the best at explaining detail
Thanks so much buddy means a lot!
My favorite part of this is the section where you explain the grip adaptation to a possible grip break at 3:17. That’s where I learn the most. The “hey this has happened to myself and let me show you what variations I have seen/performed” is the highest level of instruction.
Thank you. Now let’s watch it 53 times.
Yeah that regrip on sleeve is killer. Leandro use to do it a lot.
1. Pin leg on 1 side
2. Catch n pull lapel tight after land
3. Base control and clear the kneebshield
4. Put shouldblades on floor n knee cut
5. Jump over the other side if he extend leg.
6. Use multiple threats to pass
Appreciate you making the list!
Incredibly valuable. Keep up the great work!
Will do appreciate the support
Excellent video! Thank you for the conceptual instruction. I've been struggling with open-guard passing for a while now and look forward to pressure-testing these ideas in class.
This is great stuff. Love the way your always looking for new ways to do things👍
Yup always trying to evolve and share
Thank you
I can get this position often but I have problems clearing the knee shield, especially with the pants grip.
Thank you sir
Great channel thanks
No problem happy to help!
Great video, Jon! Your videos always have such great explanations and are always so professional!
Thank you so much appreciate it! Try to keep them efficient
@@JonThomasBJJ You're very welcome!
Love all of this. Been working on the knee-cut against the knee-shield with that lapel grip, but I use my elbow to smash the top leg and kill the underhook simultaneously. You should definitely play with it, would love to shoot you a demo if it's not quite clear what I'm getting at.
Sure shoot me a demo and send on IG
Great 👍🏼 approach ❤
Thanks!
Excellent technique.
Thank you so much!
Excelente !
Thanks a lot!
Another excellent video osssss
Thanks so much!
Great 👍
Thanks!
Makes sense, it doesn´t need much speed and jumps like other guards. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah once you can force someone there it’s super hard for them to get out
@@JonThomasBJJ Yeah it is that good.
Thank you for this great video. Any suggestions to modify this for no gi? I tried grabbing the back of the neck as an alternative to the lapel but my opponent came up under my armpit and tossed me over.
Good coach
Thanks so much!
Any tips after you land in the kneecut, get lapel control, but the bottom guy is good at digging an underhook?
I have a video about passing the coyote half guard check that out I go in depth on that
Jon address the bottom partner clearing your staple and coming up
Hey buddy if you have a strong grip on the lapel they can’t come up but if they cleared the lapel grip and already came up I feel you need to break grip and re engage you lost the position at that point
Ok and what abt the other system you developed a few days ago. The pant grip method. I can’t keep up Jonny. To master one of these takes months.
Haha buddy it’s a good one too! You can use both
