- Nelson Sullivan was playing a game of Monopoly with his friends GaGa LaGault and Morgan when he got this late night phone call from Michael Musto. Early to mid 1980s

Nelson would’ve been a good friend to have
Yes, I'm glad Nelson never saw the Towers come down. It would have broken his spirit.
Yes if everyone could be a friend or even have a friend like Nelson the world would be a better place.
Yes he would have been, 💗
yeah walking and talking smoking a joint good fun
Back when it was exciting to get a phone call and we really paid attention to the words spoken.
We can still PAY ATTENTION.
Now we are avoiding calls lol
Agree
If you’re not paying attention, maybe you’re just a d!ck
You’re being dramatic my friend lmao I still get phone calls late at night and wonder who’s calling .. shit I still even play monopoly.. this wasn’t ancient times
We're addicted to watching because we all have no friends in 21st century and that was an age when people were forced to speak to each other
this is musto at his best: not seen or heard.
Exactly 😂😂😂
"Who would be calling at this hour?" something you would NEVER hear today.....Glad I am here but damn wish I could go back and live through it again.....it was a hell of a lot more fun
*I think it’s fascinating to see Nelson on the phone and having a true conversation with someone he knew, seeing it makes me feel like I’m there in person*
Wow! I feel the same!
NPC dialogue
HOLY SMOKES! I've watched soooooo many of Nelson's videos that I feel I know him personally. I'd love to hang out with guy! Just like old times. I believe we'd get along well.
Unless someone is a jerk they'd have to get along with Nelson Sullivan.
the simplicity of conversation before cell phones and the internet, NS has a genuine interest in others
Agreed...he does and it's part of his charm.
With the risk of sounding like a mad person, sometimes, during the day, I wonder where 'we' will be going tonight in thinking about Nelson and the crew. It's such an amazing thing to be let into someones interesting life on such a personal level. By far, the most entertainment I've gotten from CZcams.
Jill dito
Jill I get it
One of the good things about CZcams, stuff like Nelson’s videos. Just so cool that it’s preserved on here for all to enjoy and see. Nelson’s videos are what CZcams was made for when CZcams first came out
What was interesting about it?
I'd completely forgotten this night, although it was not the first time I picked up Nelson's camera and photographed him with it. Another occasion was after the Gay Pride March of 1983, when Nelson came upon Morgan Moffatt, Gary Kanter and me alongside a lemonade stand. This video portrays a typical evening at Nelson's house, before a whirlwind of nightclub performances and pleasure outings swept him into a non-stop cinematic odyssey with his hand held camera. Even though the hour was late, we were wide awake, and ready to party until our heads hit the pillow around 5:00 a.m. Perhaps, if Nelson hadn't become so obsessed with photographing everything in sight, he might still be alive today. Morgan and I have long since given up smoking and staying out late. He's 79 years old now, and can sometimes be seen at the the Gym Bar in Chelsea. I'm 73 and the only place I visit regularly is the Walmart store in Yucca Valley, although (thankfully) no one recognizes me there. Nelson would have been 75, if it were not for the obsession that would soon take him away from us forever.
Thanks for sharing that with us. I wasn't born until April 1980. Though I do have memories of the 80s (particularly from '87/'88 onwards, they are from the perspective of a child. These videos are a blessing.
Why would you think the recording videos killed him
@@Justice8300 1900 hours of video tape shot over a period of 4 or 5 years, means that he would have had to be out with his camera almost every day of his life. He would often return at 5:00 a.m. and drag himself to work the next day exhausted. He became obsessed with his camera and it came as no surprise to me that he died from a heart attack at the age of 41.
It's like I'm in a time machine. But instead of witnessing some important historical event, I'm watching, 30+ years in the past, three gay men play Monopoly while chatting, drinking beer and smoking cigarettes while another takes a phone call. It was to them a fairly mundane night, but to me that makes it all the more fascinating
Love that he couldn't remember what he did the night before lol
Nelson was so talented. He was vlogging before it was even thought of. So glad we have his videos and were able to get to know him.
More Nelson Sullivan is a gift and a blessing, especially right now🙏🏼💓
Nelson has a beautiful smile
This has to be around 83, 84. I've seen Morgan in Nelson's earliest videos, but not after 84 I believe. I could be wrong. I wonder what happened to Morgan.
So handsome with that mustache. So that is the big drawing that he has on the wall in his apartment of him with that suit
Maritza Cardona --- he really is gorgeous
He was hottt
Debonair ,we could go on,,,,,,,
Nelson looks so handsome in his suit and with that moustache 💜
The original original vlogger!
I can't help it, I've come to love these glimpses into the past and feel I know these people!
3:39 omg!!! "You wanna come over?" **OMINOUS PIANO NOISES**
Great video. Its always good to see Nelson in front of the camera!
Heramitep it is!
Heramitep he was so dignified
4:30 I just realized that this is the first time I've ever seen Nelson laugh on camera.
Monopoly is the most American game there is. Nothing like completely bankrupting your friends and having a beer and a laugh while you do it.
Dude its a English game
@@harrymonk6 nar mate its american just checked on wiki
@@alexcuz2389 u sure dude? Its just cuz i heard it was made by a company in little clacton?
Best comment ever lol
@@harrymonk6 its made by Hasbro and the game was designed by 2 Americans
what a gem these videos are
True! I wonder where the money came from to buy all the videotape?
Robert Rife, Nelson had a full time job, he quit his job to pursuit his dream of make a tv show with his recorded footage (1900+ hours of content), unfortunately he died from a heart attack just 3 days after quiting his job.
Learning the tablet here pardon me,,,,,,,flamboyant, colourful and loud people that it would be hard to notice him without the camera.who knows like to think it was meant in a kind way because Michael m. is still an adorable survivor of the 80,s and entertaining, well spoken
Please publish more videos from this incredible time in nyc that Nelson captures
he died :(
Look at the duck lamp! People decorated so shabby chic in the 80's
Nelsons 80s Content is 2nd to none! 🇺🇲👍🏻
3:30-3:45 I would've laughed so hard when the cat did that
I wish i had the pleasure of knowing Nelson RIP 💗💗
We are experiencing time travelling with Nelson with these videos being uploaded right now so lets enjoy it together 👍❤
I would've definitely dated Nelson, He is so cute
i love phone conversation they make me feel safe .
Yes this is what life was like before the internet. People had real connections and knew how to socialize.
the good old days 😃
Kitty on the piano and the giant chicken lamp!!!
I love when Nelson’s friends offer to hold his camera for him :’)
I’ve noticed people didn’t cus that much then, also far more friendly and nice to each other
Back when you could smoke a Marlboro for 9 minutes and still have half a cigarette left.
Now all those chemicals make it burn in less than 2 minutes.
No one seems to appreciate the fact that nelson rolled doubles 2xs in a row
Love Nelson
I love how Nelson wears a suit to play monopoly
MrShedinthepeg --- classic...
Yea
Nelson obviously befriended Michael m.while after Nelson was gone he says Nelson would have been nothing without his camera,,,,,,kind of sticks in ones throat even though Michael m. was so much fun and adorable while they chummed together.mabey Michael became jaded later in life when he says this.sad
God damned Monopoly. If you played strictly by the rules it took days.
Happy Birthday! ❤
THIS IS GOLD
Love this 😍💖😘🥀🕊️
I feel like I’m actually there
LOL that piano strike at 3:40
I wonder if he rewound the tape to see that it was his turn?
It looks more like a house in the country than somewhere in the middle of New York City.
Living in the Meatpacking meant lots of space due to the fact that none wanted to live among drug dealers stinky streets and overcrowded with drags. Nelson was a smart guy!
Back when it was cool to smoke.
AvalonDreaming AvalonDreaming It’s still cool to smoke.. Drinking, and eating all of today’s engineered food and going to the doctor to get a flu shot is much more dangerous than smoking... #TrueStory
@@SilverWealth_Draper_Mint Our government began killing us way before they created the HIV virus. They have now increased their deadly onslaught against us through vaccines, GMO foods, chemtrails, and The Kardashians. I don't smoke. But I would if I had to choose between smoking and taking the flu shot.
lulolancey Same. I’ve never had a flu shot. Not that I can recall anyway. I’m torn and every time it never fails that I go to a medical facility I am always told that I need to get a flu shot. They almost convince me and then I always end up deciding against it. I just can’t bring myself to. But, I know I will reach an age one day that the flu may kill me so then I will really be torn.
Wow, Interesting comments
a lot of nutjobs in this comment section i see lmao
He combined monopoly and the video. On the phone he said video game. If he had only known 😜
video games were around then.
@@blobcity3591 lol thank you
Video games were huge with teenagers. They'd play monotonous clap for 24 hours straight because you couldn't save a game. Just play.
Have a monopoly from this era saving it
Lololol.. the way he said "he's still in jail" while Nelson was going for the phone was funny. Sounded like someone talking about a family member who is signed up for the installment plan at the local jail
Always talking about a party. I don’t know that I’ve ever been to a party. Where do they get the energy to go places all the time?
for many were drugs and other were much younger than Nelson.
I thought teddy pom pom was a blast baby .
I've been watching these for years. I like to cycle thru them and start all over again every couple years. The original original. Casey Neistat has nothing on Nelson Sullivan. Tell me I'm wrong.
No idea who Casey is but I do know who Nelson Sullivan is ❤️
But who won ? Who got doubles ???
I notice it must be an east coast thing that whenever Nelson asks what time it is someone replies with it's "10 to 1" or "5 to 2". It's a really odd way to give the time.
Common in the Mid West with older generations. Younger ppl will say it’s 12:50 or 1:55.
Funny, I didn’t realize it was regional. I thought everyone gave time like that. I’m also from the south though lol
Is it? That's how we tell it in the UK.
6:59 what movie is Nelson talking about?
It almost looks like he started a tape recorder when he answered the phone. Did Nelson regularly record his phone convos?
AND if there are tapes and tapes of his phone calls... what an amazing premise for a podcast!
There was a black device attached to the phone receiver. I saw that. Also he notated who he spoke to and the time. You were never off convo or camera with Nelson.
An answering machine.
Nelson never did drugs I think.
Mabey Michael m. meant Nelson was soft spoken and very much a gentleman compared to so many flamboyant extraber
Whatever happened to Morgan?
Michael Alig goes to jail & does not pass go…
*Does anyone know if Nelson was ever in a relationship? Also, what was his stance on gay marriage and adopting children between gay couples?*
Captcha Neon - I was born in 1960...back in this time .. adoption wasn't discussed much publicly. People really just wanted freedom to go wherever. Even straight couple's were discouraged from having kids. They even had ads in magazines...saying no more than two children, IF you had any.
Mara Myst *Interesting. Did they want people to just have children later after the freedom movement ended or just not at all?*
Captcha Neon These things were never even thought of at that time. They had more important things to worry about. I cannot stress how horrible the AIDS epidemic was. There was NO cure and the treatment available was not really effective. People were dropping dead within months of a diagnosis. I find it very strange that these New York people never mention it. I'm not gay, but lost many friends during this time. It was the time of the real walking dead. People who had it aged over night. They looked like concentration camp victims. Very, very thin with blank dead eyes. People need to stop and realize how truly far we have come. The problem with the Nelson tapes is that they make younger people think it was all nightclubs and parties back then. The 80's up until the mid 90's were a dark, dark time for the Gay community.
M Perkins i read that he died of a heart attack
M Perkins so are you saying Nelson had AIDS? I've not heard this before.
I'm looking for the video of him on the phone with Michael Musto and he is speaking ugly about christina
