Isn’t that double top you drew for the downtrend also a double bottom which typically means price will increase? That’s what I see and why textbook says double tops are only in an uptrend
I wanted to ask , for that double top on a downtrend market, how about that price refuse to go down and it goes up, just a double top but for a uptrend ? Wich one makes more sense ?
I see most of these double tops videos are 5 years old. I wonder why (or I know why). For 3 years I have tested these on 4H forex pairs. I did 53 forward tests and labeled them with trading with the 200 EMA, against the 200 EMA or the 200 EMA was flat. It barely made around 0 $. I modified the criteria. If I see anything resembling a lot of momentum or a trend, they are not traded. I wanted to see a deep middle part before the second top, and I wanted to have the second top higher than the first with a rejection wick. Still nothing. 10 losses in a row. Conclusion: Double tops do not work! Spare yourself a lot of time and leave it! Or just trade against them. Double top = long. Double bottom = short.
My thoughts exactly Rayner, whatever the "reversal" pattern, always trade with the trend. Countless head and shoulders on the EUR/USD but the trend still prevailed. Although the "Build-up" right before break-out is pretty great :)
@Rayner Teo, i got confused when you said that we should trade double top inthe downtrend, i got a question to ask there. As i was taught about the double top pattern it must have one previous leg two tops and a neck in which after the break out retest then the leg we are trading must be equal or close to equal the previous leg. My question is, how do i find the previous leg in a strong downtred for a double top and if it has no leg then how can i call it double top pattern, please assist me

I believe at this point, The first rule is to define a profit target and a stop loss level. Many traders make the mistake of only identifying a target and forget about their stop loss. Don’t make that mistake. In order to calculate your risk as explained in the next step strategy, you must have a stop loss level defined with blended model strategy. This is the only time you have a completely neutral bias, because It then becomes far too easy to place your exit points at levels that benefit your trade. learn a complete trading method that can help you make money for the rest of your life.
