  • Doing proper recon or reconnaissance in Wargame Red Dragon is not easy. Let me help you with this guide.
    In this video I explain how you can use the various recon units that are available in the game. Using recon effectively is a skill, so you can definitely learn it. It will only take some time, trial and error and patience ;).
    Tip: create a motorized deck like I did and just practice with spotting ranges, stealth and combination of recon and artillery/airstrikes. It's the best way to dry-test your recon units.

    BTW:
    1. "Luchs" is pronounced "Looks", as in the sentence "He looks at me."
    2. (Off topic) You managed, that my very young and super-hyper-active cat always calms down now, when I/we listen to your unique kind of explanations. This never happened B4! ;)

    Excellent guide, I never thought of the distinction between 'active' and 'passive' recon before. I always used to just choose units with the best recon ability and park them (choppers included!), but now I'll look into being a bit more aggressive with recon SF and tanks.
    Have you got any more tips on getting a feel for spotting ranges, line of sight and so on? If you could post the export of your practice AI opponent deck would be great!

    • @Stealth17Gaming
      @Stealth17Gaming  Před 9 lety +2

      Glad to help Robert :).
      To test spotting ranges I'd use an AI deck. Just create a deck of the opposite side to yours. Give them 1 command unit and some vehicles and/or tanks to test. Put it on easy and you have plenty of time to test.

    In "LUCHS" or "FUCHS" the "CHS" is more pronounciated like "KS" or "X".
    The "U" is pronounciated like an double "OO" - just not stretched too long.
    So Luchs is spoken like "LOOKS" (with the "OO" not too stretched out) (fʊks)
    while Fuchs would be spoken like "FOOKS" (same as above applies) (lʊks)
    To be precise the "U" is actually spoken stretched out depending on the combination of consonants and vocals: (Vocal-Consonant-Vocal)
    For example "LUGER" is really spoken like "LOOGER"
    Also if the vocal is doubled "UU" (that combination is rare) or
    followed by "H" (which stretches the vocal in front of it) they are spoken long.
    This usage applies to other Vocals to (A,E,I,O,U)
    (short) LACHS : eng.salmon
    (long) LAKE : eng. brine
    (short) LECK : eng. leak
    (long) LEDER : eng. leather
    (short) LIPPE : eng. lip
    (long) PISA : Italian town with crooked tower :-)
    (short) LOCH : eng. hole
    (long) LOTSE : eng: guide (mostly on sealanes)

    helicopter borne recon squads are nice, but transport helicopters are easily spotted (can't travel through forests, just over them) and can only unload at the edges of forests, meaning your troops may have to walk further (a bit slower than aboard a transport)

    • @surprisedchar2458
      @surprisedchar2458 Před 2 lety +1

      Heliborne recon is most useful at the start of a match, I've found, as it allows you park spotters fairly far out before an AA net can be properly established.

    love your channel... i just started this game about 10 days ago and if it werent for you, i d probably still be @ testing, how to summon units to the map...
    just one tiny annotiation, since i m a german myself and heard you spell out 2 german words again and again:
    "luchs" and "fuchs" are spoken "lux" and "fux", like "FOX" in english... fuchs actually is the german word for fox :D
    i dont mind, its just really strange to listen to, cause your pronounciation sounds like the german words for "suck" and "broken" ;-) :D:D:D
    keep up the great work dude, maybe when i beat the campaigns in like a decade or so, we end up in the same game some time :D

      Actually it's pronounced like the English word looks. The 2 dots above the u are umlauts, which modulate the u to sound like looks not lux. There is no English consonant sound like the ch sound in German so I wont try to describe it here, but if you pronounce it like an x that's pretty close.

    • @rbarnes4076
      @rbarnes4076 Před 4 lety

      German/English speaker here.. Luchs ... the 'u' sound is more like the 'oo' in moon. In the english word 'look' the oo is different. Its is shorter and not as strong. It is a precise analog to an o with an umlaut in German (ö).
      Oh.. and super-excellent videos by the way.

    I know that vid is old but nicely done (sometimes just click recommendations I get from u even when they are old) and I wouldn't have commented (what I rarely do anyway), but it's so hilarious as a german to watch you pronounce the Luchs here. It sound like Lutsch... which actually is a german word. Which is best translated to suck... Nii P. already gave a good example how to pronounce it. And I think u already do in newer vids. But it was so good. I really had to comment. A late thumbs up and not only for the "Lutsch" XD I like your style in Vids. You're not one of those I can talk so fast as an MG english Let's players. What I really like. So one can comfortably have your vid running while doing something else.

    The comment about only not blinking units can be seen is wrong for recons. All recons have medium and higher stealth and as such can shot out of forests which stops blinking and still be invisible to the enemy. I have tested it.

    • @AJasonNorthrup

    • @Stealth17Gaming

      No. I always consider my deck like a toolkit: better to have a tool (unit) in there and not use it, than to go "crap, really needed a [unit/tool] right now!"

    I disagree with you. Why would you transport your Militia BGS in a helicopter. If you are going to use them for passive scouting?

    • @Stealth17Gaming
      @Stealth17Gaming  Před 8 lety

      I use a helo to transport them over larger distances faster than a ground based vehicle can. Drop them off close to where you need them to be and tell them to start walking. Nowadays I usually use the sniper teams for the Germans though.

    • @Durovnax
      @Durovnax Před 8 lety

      Sniper team definetly fits in a helicopter. I'd rather take Cheap recon in a cheap truck.
