    I'm going to try to split the difference on the comments so far. Although I think shooting in burst mode is the right way to capture moving targets, I think many believe the art of great street photography is knowing when to take the picture. I'm definitely not saying Omar is wrong, because he isn't wrong. However, I understand the purist point of view. For me, I enjoy looking for the right moment... it's that process that makes street photography rewarding for me. But everybody should shoot anyway they want!

      @YouNeedMyVoice Před 2 lety

      I 100% agree with you.
      Burst mode could be the 'new best thing' for having that technical accuracy in making sure your composition its locked and sealed, but limiting yourself to one click shot cand be really autentic and also rewarding if nailed.

    I am not a purist and use high burst on the street all the time. Use the tech you have not the tech that was. Still need to use anticipation and planning to get the shot.

    Pre focusing and using burst mode are both helpful in wildlife photography, so it seems like a good idea for people as well.

    Omar, you may know this already, but with Photo Mechanic, I find that tagging photos (using "T") is the best way to do an initial screen. It allows you to quickly filter out the non-tagged photos before ranking the tagged photos with colors +/- stars.

    Another good tip:
    If you set burst mode to lower one 3-4 fps you can still take a singe photo if you press quickly or as norml without holding shutter button which is great. If you see someone and you want to freeze that moment/more photos of it - get burst, just press and hold shutter and point camera 3-4 fps its usually quick enought to catch what you need.
    Its what I do on streets and im happy with it.
    Some cons of burst:
    If you set it up to 6+ fps its take 2 or more images very fast even when you quicky just press shutter button, you end up with way to many spam and same kind of photos.
    I like burst but when choosing what to keep is not easy hah you end up having same kind of photos just slightly different and not knowing which to choose as best one lol thats the biggest minus of it.
    Very nice video Omar.
    I love my Class Chrome same kind of settings hehe I just put +1 to color.
    Cheers

    Saw this in a photo magazine like 40 years ago regarding relying on a motor drive (back then) to get the decisive moment.
    The normal burst was 5 FPS on a Nikon motor drive. If you are shooting at 1/1000th of a second and shoot for 5 frames, you capture 5/1000th of a second. Sounds good until you realize that you miss 495/1000th of that same second. Bottom line, no guarentee that you will get peak action.
    Anticipation, readiness and mental focus are still not expendable with burst rates.

    • @albertsmith9315
      @albertsmith9315 Před 2 lety +2

      Man, I need to proofread.... you miss 995/1000th of a second, not 495.

    I rarely shoot street but now I have both the RF 16mm F/2.8 and RF 35mm F/1.8. Those are much more portable and subtle lenses for my R6 and R6 than my other big, hulking lenses.
    Electronic shutter is really warpy on that X-E2. Shooting in Manhattan, was shutter click on a mirrorless camera a real concern? Thanks.

    When having a lot of photos it is a good idea to use a small fast photo viewer like irfanview or acdsee to view the photos and delete the fails before importing into lightroom. This way lightroom will import them faster and you will be more focused on the editing. Some do all the choosing in the fast viewer before importing and only edit in lightroom.

    The point is to get the image you want. If the technology exists to help you do that, why would you not use it? If Cartier-Bresson was on the streets today, he'd be bursting away. And, God forbid, Winogrand were out there, he'd do a quarter million shots a day!!! He'd keep SanDisk in business all by himself!!!

      I respectfully disagree that the greats would just resort to spray and pray techniques. That's like saying Picasso would just resort to paint by numbers lol. In addition, there's nothing wrong with what Omar said. However, I like to compare street photography to hitting off of a professional baseball pitcher. The average reaction time for a hitter is 0.4 seconds. That's the amount of time the hitter has to decide whether to swing, and how to swing, etc., etc. The likelihood of him making contact is small, let alone getting a good hit. But that's the art of hitting. If you told me that you could automate the process to increase the chance of hitting a baseball, I'd tell you then you're not playing baseball. Again, for a casual guy out taken pics...spray and pray all day along! At the end of the day if you're enjoying yourself who cares. But if you aspire to be the next Winogrand, Erwiit, or Meyerowitz that's not the technique I'd use.

      Sorry but, by the same token...Than why don't we just screen security cams and just select "decisive moments"? Where is the "street photography"? This is just pray and spray, not decisive moment.
