A little different than I was taught, but it still looks so good! I learned to make chicken fried steak from my granny...she soaked the steak in buttermilk, then dredged in self rising flour. She let it set for a few minutes, then dredged it in flour again, then fried it. That buttermilk and the double coating of flour make such a wonderful crust! Gravy made just the way you did. Mashed taters, pinto beans, cornbread AND biscuits...that's how she served it. In the summer, there would be a big plate of sliced garden fresh tomatoes, and a glass of green onions. I sure do miss those days, 50+ years ago.
Oh yes...Chicken fried steak, gravey and boiled potatoes with sliced tomatoes and a glass of green onions on the side......Grandma gave us each our own little plate to put salt on to dip our onions in. A slice of bread and butter and we were all set :)
@@MuirWoods111 cleaned Green onions in a glass of water. The water helps keep them crisp.
Gosh, this Texas girl is in need of a good Chicken Fried Steak now. In my younger days, it was sort of a "mission" for me to taste test the CFS in every restaurant and every state. I'm up to 35 states and no one makes it like the Texas cooks do.
Made this yesterday.....it was fantastic!
@@shelleyriley9130 have you been to Babe’s? I’ve never tried their chicken fried steak, but it does look good, I always order the fried chicken because it’s as good cold as it is hot, and they’re sides are really good, but I do make better mashed potatoes and gravy. I seldom even eat the chicken in the restaurant, I eat the sides and bring my chicken home thinking about how good it’s going to be tomorrow. Babe’s is a fun restaurant. Only problem is that way too many people enjoyed it and couldn’t wait to tell everyone they knew who then tried it and told everyone they knew and now the lines are too long. Please do not tell any friends or family about this place……should I consider the fact that I may have told you, but put it in the form of a question so I’m not sure that counts! 😂
My mom made the best fried chicken..and that's how she made her gravy. It was so good. If only I could enjoy a chicken dinner with her again... Have a wonderful Easter.
Bless you
Miss Lori and Mr. Brown you are both a joy to watch. I look forward to every time you post. Please know that you are both such a blessing. May the Lord bless you and your family this Easter weekend and always! That chicken fried steak looks wonderful.
Lori, this Pam from East Texas. Love your cookbook. And love you. Feel like you are Kindred spirit sister. Close to same age and like family. Have a wonderful Easter! HE IS RISEN!
Àgree ! Have a blessed Easter.
Amen- Risen Indeed- may the rest of Your Year be Blessed 🙌 !
There is nothing better than Chicken-fried Steak..Thank you Lori for showing us how you make yours .Many blessings to you two..Happy Easter!!!
Looks wonderful. Just like the Pork tenderloin we cooked together. Hope you guys made it through the storms ok.
I like cottage cheese too. Lol
The main storm went a few miles south of us got some hail but not much damage I am ready for some pork tenderloin they were soo good and we enjoy having you cook for us
We love you two! Happy Easter to you.
HE IS RISEN!
That chicken fried steak dinner was one of my TN Daddy's favorite meals! Made me smile, recalling how my Momma taught me how to make that receipt!...I am allergic to eggs, so I dip my meat in whole milk with a little melted butter and add salt and pepper and spices into the crushed gluten free saltines. Have to dip and dredge it twice to make it work out, but it tastes just like egg version.
Oh my goodness. My wife made CFS tonight and wow. She was quote-- ah best Ive ever made. Now I know how to make them. Thanks so much. We did pair with mashed potatoes and your gravy. And some creamed wild onions and peas. And some homemade toasted oat bread!! Wow. We watch your videos together on the weekends. We just turned 50 and 53 and you 2 are our inspiration as we navigate life. We hope to get more and more sustainable as we transition in age and knowledge. Thanks so much for your videos and faith.
Your Grand Baby Is Adorable
God Bless you All
My Grandma used to make her Chicken Fried Steak the exact same way and hence I learned from her. ❤ Thanks for sharing
Happy Easter. God bless you and your Family.
Happy Friday, Miss Lori and Mr Brown. Happy Easter to you both and your family!
Oh my goodness TEXAS is so proud of you 👍 I could almost se my precious momma putting those pieces of steak into the cracker crumbs… I could almost smell that incredible smell you get when you pour that milk into the skillet to make that good ol’ cream gravy. Thank you so much Lori. I’m down here in Texas sending you My Sister, Love and prayers. Thank you so much and ✝️🙏 Happy Easter ✝️🙏
This is how my mother use to do this recipe. It looked so good. Your little granddaughter sounded so sweet.
I’ve never seen anyone use crackers for chicken fried steak! I’m definitely going to try this. Thank you Lori! Wishing you and yours a Beautiful Easter! 🐰
Are you from Texas Ruthie? I was wondering because I am from Texas and I have never seen it made without saltine crackers crushed for the final dredge.
Where I grew up, in the Dallas area and Houston area, if cracker crumbs were not used, then it was called Country Fried Steak. That was the difference between the two for us.
@@pamelamiller3757 Hi! No, I’m from Alabama and we always used flour, no crackers. We fry it the same way we do chicken. I recently made some using crackers and absolutely loved it.🥰
@@ruthieshields189 Makes it so crunchy, doesn't it? Love it!
I’m with you, can’t get enough gravy. I love chicken fried steak. It’s so good. Got to have the gravy with it. I’ve never tried it with rice. I definitely like frying with cracker crumbs. We make fried pork tenderloin sandwiches. Just pound your tenderloin out thin, dip it in flour, egg and then the cracker crumbs. Great on a bun with a big slice of onion and any condiment you like.
One of my most favorites! Thank you so much Ms. Lori!
That sure looks tasty! Thank you, Ms. Lori. I pray that you have a blessed Resurrection Day.
I would like to wish you and your a HAPPY EASTER. You two warm my heart and GOD has blessed you two.
Larapin! ♥️
God Bless all The Brown’s.
What a sweet voice coming from your little granddaughter!
Have a blessed and joyful Easter weekend! 🙏💕
I have never seen this......must be a southern dish.....looks yummy.....
Nothing more gooder than chicken fried steak!❤❤. God bless and Happy Easter y'all.
Chicken fried steak is one of my favorite meals! This looks delicious! And cottage cheese is pretty tasty too! Nothing better than spending time with them sweet grandkids!
I love gravy on my cottage cheese
Happy Easter Mr. Brown and Ms. Lori. Hoping your grandchildren are having a great bunny egg hunt. Enjoy your family and Love the Lord. Blessings to you and your family. Great Recipe Ms. Lori.
This brings back a lot of memories. My mom was not a cook! but she had a few dishes and this was one of them. I remember standing by the stove and watching her pour a little of her coffee into the gravy to make it a darker color. She used top round steak that was pounded to death and lots of pepper in the gravy. Thanks for the memories and happy Easter
Thank you for this wonderful recipe. It looks really good.
My heart rate has continued to increase while watching that steak brown. Mr Brown is a lucky man!😃🩷
I’m a lifelong Texan and grew up about an hour east of where you lived. Chicken fried steak with rice and brown gravy is such a part of our culture and at our house it was on the table once a week…my mom could cook it beautifully. However…she never used cracker crumbs and neither have I but boy is that a great idea! That’s what probably makes it look and taste like restaurant cfs.
I was surprised to learn later in life that not everyone one eats rice with brown gravy. Maybe it just depends on where you live. For anyone who hasn’t had rice and gravy, you’re missing out! And…much easier to prepare than mashed potatoes. You knocked another one out of the park Miss Lori…and I really appreciate the information about what cuts of meat to use and how important it is to make it thin.
As a Canadian I had no idea people ate gravy with their rice.
Thank you
Yumminess
Mmmmm! Chicken fried steak and skillet gravy! I live in Texas and it made me smile. You are right. Texas makes some of the best. Wish I had some now!
Prayed for y'all in all of the crazy storms that have come through in the last days. Several days ago a tornado and baseball sized hail came through a small town near Waco where our son and his family lives. There was a lot of damage around them from the tornado but praise God all they got was hail. Thought of those in it's path. So thankful to see y'all are ok.
God bless you both! Have a blessed Easter! ✝️💟✝️
You can't go wrong with gravy...lol. God bless you and Mr. Brown.
Can't believe I'm this early! I LOVE chicken fried steak! Been ages since I've made it.

My grandmother made the best gravy; she always said “never serve raw gravy”…it takes time. She made it the same way you do. I love it!
My goodness, Miss Lori, that meal looks wonderful! I've used saltine crackers for my fried chicken all my life: taught by my mother who was taught by hers who was taught by hers! I am absolutely going to try your chicken fried steak recipe! It just looks delicious. Thank you for sharing this recipe with us. ~ Carolyn 🌺

Happy Easter blessings to you Miss Lori and Mr Brown. May God continue to bless you and your family ❤️
When you mention Texas, my eyes tear up with wonderful memories as I too am a Texas native ❤️. I married the love of my life after coming to Little Rock for college. As much as I have enjoyed living in LR, I have always yearned to move back to Texas. I’m sure you know the feeling.
I guess this is why I really enjoy your videos.
Have a blessed Easter with your family.
You just can't take the Texas out of me, it's my roots
Next to a cheeseburger, this is my favorite thing to eat...EVER! CFS was my fathers special meal...he would make homemade french fries and huge beautiful salad for us...DELICIOUS!!

😋 YUM ! ! ! I Make mine like that too Lori. Wish I Had some Right NOW. 😘 Bless You Both and Have a Nice 🍃🐇 RESURRECTION or EASTER Sunday.
Oh my, this looks do good!
God bless all here
Your recipe is amazing! Thanks so much! Native Texan here and grew up eating my mom's chicken fried steak which was good, but Threadgill's in Austin, Texas made the best and largest restaurant-made chicken fried steak I've ever eaten. Sadly, both locations closed in the last few years and they are missed.
I've read stories about that restaurant
Ok, I’m definitely trying this one! This looks better than what I’ve gotten in a restaurant!! 😍😋🥰
I’m another Texan, but never saw cracker crumbs used. I’ve learned a new trick. Gonna make some this week.
I love chicken fried steak! Happy Easter🐰🐇🐣🐤
I grew up in Texas! Chicken fried steak is one of my favorite meals!
Looks so delicious I can’t wait to make it!
My husband loves chicken fried steak. Will definitely be trying this.
Thank you for this recipe!!
Oh, I have a sirloin for this! I'm excited that I came across this recipe! Thanks Mrs. Lori ❤
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 68 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼 ❤ 🎀 ❤
My grandmother always used can milk to make cream gravy, so yummy!
Thank you Ms. Lori. Y'all have a great Easter. Family, Food, and God.
I used to help my mom make it sometimes, while i was growing up. I wish i had the recipe she used. Mom mixed the herbs/spices in with the cracker crumbs and we didn't use flour.
We hand tenderized/beat the meat, into the beaten eggs, into the cracker/spice mix and then into the cast iron pan..... fried and then into a plate to sit in the warmed oven while we cooked up more.
Love your channel. New subscriber. I am from Texas too: born and raised. Lived near Dallas until I retired and then moved to the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. I love the old ways of life and the great southern recipes. My mother always ground up cracker crumbs by putting them on a dough board and rolling the rolling pin over them. We never had a food processor or anything like that back then.
Mrs Lori, My Mom would swear I was from Texas. I cooked for her a few months ago and she said I put gravy on everything. She complained but every bit of my food with a satisfied smile.😇
Looks so good! ❤ 🍽🍽🍽❤ Thank you for sharing. 😊🌹
Another one of my husband's favorites. 😊👍
Yum! It looks delicious! Looks like there were bad storms by you last night. I hope you're all safe! 💗
Chicken fried steak is my favorite! Looks so good! My dad loved it as well and we had it slot when I was a teenager! I like it with rice or potatoes too!
I plan on making this on Tuesday. Thank you for sharing
I love Chicken Fried Steak but I can’t ever get it crispy enough. I’m going to try this recipe using the cracker crumbs and I bet it turns great. Thank you for posting this video. God bless you all.
Have a happy and blessed Easter 🐣 🙏🙏
Ms Lori Like you I haven't had this in a while either sounds like a great dinner Always love to see the grandbabies, Love you and be blessed
Have a blessed Easter.💐🌹🌼🌸🌺🌻
This reminds me of a family thing that my dad used to make....he would fry up chicken all crispy and good.....and then put in a cup or so of water in the pan and steam it for a while. Sounds odd....but good stuff! lol He was raised in a holler in Ak.
My favorite is chicken fried steak and gravy! Happy Easter!
Ms Lori, I heard there were some bad storms in your area in the last day or 2. I hope y'all didn't have any damage! And I hope you and your family have a Wonderful Easter.
