She started her television career as lead protagonist in TV drama Kasamh Se on Zee TV.
She left her Arts course mid-way when she was selected for TV serial Kasamh Se opposite Ram Kapoor.
In 2007, she entered Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2, but got eliminated. However, she entered the contest again as a wild-card entry and eventually won the competition.
While shooting for Kasamh Se, she got a call from the director of the film Rock On!! (2008) to meet him in his studio. She never imagined that she was being called in for auditioning for a role opposite Farhan Akthar.
She made her Bollywood debut with film Rock On!! (2008).
After that she appeared in many bollywood movies like Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), Bol Bachchan (2012) ,Rock On 2 & I, Me Aur Main (2013).
In 2016, Desai played former cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin's wife Naureen in his biopic film Azhar opposite Emraan Hashmi.
Prachi come back to silver screen after almost 4 years with Zee 5 film Silence...Can You Hear It?
