      Bad move on their part

    • @SGAmmo_LLC
      @SGAmmo_LLC  Před 5 měsíci +23

      We have shipped empty cans in the past and learned that it is not practical to sell them empty for a number of reasons...since we have to pack and ship, usually with a mix of other products that do not fit together well in a package in a practical and secure way, and the other goods bashing around in transit often damages empty cans, then you get a bunch of angry people that want their cans replaced on a regular basis, this really chips away at what little we would make on the sales, because it costs more to ship the cans than the cost of cans themselves. On top of that, ammo cans are super-bulky and very expensive to ship, the prices would have to be so high on empty cans to cover that cost that shipping costs, it would not be practical from a cost point of view. Additionally it is a huge $$$ & time investment to get these paid for, manufactured and shipped around the world, then stored in valuable warehouse space, if we ended up selling them to make $2 to $5 a can it just would not be worth making the investment in the first place. Shipping them with ammo in the can resolves all of these issues for the most part.

    I've been buying from SG since they've been online and never had an issue, they have some of the best deals on ammo out there. Sometimes you can catch stuff on sale that you can't pass up hahahha. I might try some of these smaller cans for reloading bullets....the regular .30 cal can get's to heavy and I can't help but fill them up. The crate looks interesting too, maybe I could store primers in those. I put locks on every ammo crate I own even though I know it's just a deterrent, so it's nice seeing the mil-type clasp.

    Of the new cans, I don't yet have the mid size can. The crate is pretty darn useful. Lot's of sticker space. My favorite is the mini can. It holds enough to be useful but, even full it is not too heavy. It is a steel ammo can in miniature. Great for range trips.

    • @SGAmmo_LLC
      @SGAmmo_LLC  Před 3 měsíci

      A factory full case will not drop in, but depending on the size of the boxes within the case, you may be able to pack up to 1100 rounds in a crate. if the 20rd boxes have trays in them this increases the size of the box and reduces capacity the crate can hold. For example Winchester 223 boxes in with foam trays you may only get 300 rounds in there, but in boxes where its just 20 rounds laying oriented into the cardboard box with no tray, you can get 1100 rounds in the crate

    You should set a 30 or 50cal can with a integrated lock point and some foam. Market it specifically as secure gun storage. An ammo can, with a good lock is WAY more secure than nearly every pistol safe, but it being an ammo can, it is specifically not legally considered a secure gunsafe.

      Its just not practical to sell empty cans when you have to pay UPS ground bulky packaging rates to ship them across the country, they would be way too expensive once we build that cost into the price since we are a free shipping store. Plus its a nightmare to pack odd numbers of cans with cases and boxes of ammo ordered at the same time. The only practical way to sell them is with ammo in them, and we pack a number of caliber and product options so that its easy to find something in canisters that fits the needs of most clients

      @SGAmmo_LLC  Před 5 měsíci

      They seem pretty hardy, the M19A1 and M2A1 are basically a copy of US military, and I think the flat cans are even more durable due the short lengths of the sheet metal. We have not really torture tested them in any way other than shipping UPS and we have had very few damage claims. UPS always finds a way to occasionally damage something that seems indestructible, so time will tell, but they were able to damage US military cans too.

    Thanks for being upfront about these being made in China. I won’t buy any ammo cans you’re offering for that reason. I live in a military town and I’m retired military so American 🇺🇸 made ammo cans are plentiful here. Anytime I’ve seen metal ammo cans for sale in retail stores (Walmart, Harbor Freight, Academy Sports, Dunhams, etc.) they’re all made in China 🇨🇳. No Communist ammo cans for me. I support our American economy. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    • @SGAmmo_LLC
      @SGAmmo_LLC  Před 5 měsíci +5

      I totally get your point of view, these are the only Chinese made goods we sell since ammo from there is banned. That said, the US manufacturers will not even give us the time of day to talk about selling us cans, the US government gets everything they make and pays top dollar, so military surplus cans are the only US made option and when the government auction company regularly sends a bunch of trashed cans, or cans full of water and rusted inside, or covered in sand and mud in the mix of the shipment with zero recourse for the garbage in the mix that they sold us at full price, it creates a problem where cleaning, painting, restoring ammo cans becomes a huge project that does not fit into the workflow and pushes the project to be done at a loss

    • @SGAmmo_LLC
      @SGAmmo_LLC  Před 5 měsíci +6

      Cans in general are not in short supply, we just have no good way to get new condition American made cans. Shipping empty cans is one of the more impractical things we have tried, super-bulky, heavy, low cost products results in shipping costs that often exceed the price of the product, plus difficult combinations with other items. I have been telling myself I will never sell empty ammo cans again unless its an effort to just get rid of them and not buy them again. I highly doubt we ever sell these cans empty again. The only situation I see that happening is retirement as part of an exit plan

      No, we never went down that road with a traditional store front. IMO Stillwater is too small of a community to support niche businesses like ours in an old fashion store front business, at least in a profitable way. In the over 20 years my family has lived here we have seen many people try something that works in the city only to fail in Stillwater. We do not allow pickup at the warehouse and ship all orders UPS ground, its just so much more efficient for what we do in the ammo business.
