Thought I was tripping with the Pokémon theme playing
No cap Dom i dindt follow the NBA when Keving Garnet finaly won that ring, so i cant speak on the emotions running through my veins, but i was there when Lebron said " Cleaveland this is for you" i felt that, i never travelled to USA nor knew Cleaveland, but i felt the love Bron had for his city.
I started as a Russel fanboy in 2017, there isnt a simple way to say why, its just something on the way he plays, its like watching Ippo dempsey roll for the first time, punch after punch after punch, the energy, like a wild animal that happens to know basketball, and if that guy can finaly take that ring even if he is riding behind LBJ, when i go back and watch Garnett i can finaly say, i get it.
I can already see it: Even if Russ plays amazing this season, if the Lakers lose in the Finals (or don’t even make it), he will be the scapegoat.
If he plays amazing they will win theres no in between

When Russ was in the bubble he was playing on a bum hamstring, you can’t just “yadda yadda” that away when it comes to a pg who relies on his athleticism.
He was also having a great year once they traded away Capela. Then he caught covid and had the hamstrings injury

I agree completely with his MVP season. Forget the stats and he carried a team that was out of the playoffs to 2 wins from the 3rd seed. Plus the game winning shot to send them into the playoffs and idk how you say he didn’t deserve it. Most underrated MVP season ever
it's always been tough being a Russ fan, this is my last time being a blind optimistic and hoping that he could play well with somebody . This is his best chance imo to play with a playmaker better at playmaking whom may be able to suggest to be poise in clutch moments (LBJ & Rondo)

It may turn out that Russ ages well. If he can stay healthy, and starts making better decisions with the ball, he could be the rare superstar who peaks later in his career. John Stockton played his last NBA finals at age 35, and Karl Malone was 34, and they were still the best players on that squad. The real question is this: How does Russ adapt to slowing down? Does he double-down on trying to pretend he's still 24 and hurt himself? Or does he develop his finesse game and get more crafty? 38 year-old MJ was just a shadow of 24 year-old self, but he was still a top 50 player.
I raise an interesting take, I think he'll start to rely on his playmaking ability heavily and bring stats similar to prime rondo (maybe 14 and 11 a game). The key to his success would to be an alt playmaker with lebron and the primary playmaker and scorer when lebron sits. He would have to thrive on off ball cuts and screens to score in the paint, and when he can't, go to his playmaking ability and find an open man, perhaps a trailing AD
@@CBall97CEP I'll raise it to an even more interesting take, how will Russ be an effective playmaker when his playmaking is dependent on his athleticism, he simply blows by defenders which open up teammates because of rotations. If he steers away from that, what will he offer offensively. He's a sub par shooter from any range, he is not an elite level finisher as well. His on ball defense shows us flashes of brilliance but then his off ball defense brings us all back down.

@@badxgrass his time in Houston and Washington has shown he can be an effective piece and playmaker without being THE guy. And he won't have to force anything with the pieces around him, you see what he creates from teams with subpar pieces other than another star, I feel he's got a lot of options on this loaded team. Again I'm not asking mvp numbers, just avg a double double should be enough to be a great asset to the lakers. It's a fair point to point out his athletism but atm he's not showing signs that he lost it, yeah he's not AS good as mvp russ, but on this team he doesn't need to be imo

Feels like I'm playing Pokemon Red, trying to get through Team Rocket tower in Saffron City.
I don’t know what to think of this team, especially with the addition of Russ. One part of me thinks this team is going to be near unstoppable, due to their insane depth. But on the other hand it’s yet to be seen how Russ and all these new additions will play together. Either way it’s going to be an interesting season for the Lakers that’s for sure!

Even beating the Bucks would be tough also. If the 76ers make the correct decision on trading Ben Simmons while getting someone even solid offensively in return then they’d have a chance in things in the East. Even in the West, the Lakers will have some competition between the Suns and Clippers. Even the Jazz and Nuggets (if Jamal Murray and the team are fully healthy) will be challengers so it won’t be a cakewalk getting through the West for Westbrook to get his first ring.

I have….a take. Russ should come off the bench for the Lakers. He’d be the best bench player not named “Steph Curry” or “Klay Thompson”. Other teams would have too chose between sitting their starters against him or keeping their starts in and that would allow Bron and AD to pick them apart.

With LeBron at the wheel I belive/hope that this is a different Westbrook, LeBron will not allow that old Westbrook habits allowed on his team otherwise he's gone lol. That's why we probably got rondo as an insurance policy. But this time around Westbrook dosent have that pressure of making thoes big time plays as a first option. And he's on a team full of vet's with high basketball IQ. But end of the day we shall see.

I love Russ. I don't get the disrespect. Gives 100% EVERY game. Led the league in assists 3 out of the last 4 seasons. Which he is also currently 12th all time. He is a former MVP and has led the league in scoring. He has also been the best in the clutch before. If this was any other player everybody would be saying how amazing he is. Now he is ranked in the 30s of nba players with the likes of Ben Simmons ahead of him which is just laughable.

I have no respect for a point guard that gets his triple doubles by standing where the center is suppose to on free throws
If Russ had ever developed at least a reliable 3 point shot, you could forgive all the other flaws in his game.
He reminds me of what Phil Jackson said about Scottie Pippen one time, in that Scottie was a sometimes shooter. Sometimes they go in, sometimes they don't. I feel like as a point guard in today's game, you need to be a somewhat reliable shooter from deep. Not saying you have to be automatic from beyond the arc, but some of the best three point shooters in the game right now are reliably dropping 40-45%, and sometimes higher. Russ barely scrapes 30%, and just barely, in 3 point percentage. For a ball dominant point guard, who's game is based on his athleticism and he's starting to age, he needed to at least develop a reliable mid range, but that never really happened, and he's not a threat from deep. Remember that game where the Warriors did nothing but play Harden and Russ went 0/8 on threes? Bruh, can't afford that. If you made even half of those, that whole game plan would have fallen apart. They were counting on him not making the open shots, and he fed them that game.
Not that Russ ever had a really bad career, but his game had some holes in it, that if he had tightened up, he'd have been quite nasty as an all around point guard. That's something that Ben Simmons should be taking lessons on now. Russ's biggest flaw was not that he was so ball dominant, although he could have worked on that as well, but that his outside shooting ability wasn't reliable.
Fight me if I'm wrong, but I wanna say this Lakers team reminds me of Lebron and his "New Look Cavs" after Kyrie went to Boston. A lot of big names on the roster, but they're older, less athletic, many past their prime...
