- Today I went down to visit Jeff, Jeff had a very rare Land Rover Discovery XD, and Jeff wanted me to have it. How could I say no to such an opportunity so I packed up my truck and headed to pick up my new 1997 Disco. Now I will get it back to my shop to find out will it start as this will be it's first start in six plus years.

This Week With Cars - Episode 0235
#landrover #discovery #landroverdiscovery
It's a tribute to the respect you command that someone wanted to give you such a rare, and complete vehicle. I look forward to the process of fettling it.
Hi Steve, I can't wait to see more on this one and learn more from you.
What a great video. We knew we made the right decision. Looking forward to watching her progress!!! Thanks again for being willing to try to bring her back.
Very generous of them to give you that. It went to the right guy, for sure.
I watched all of those episodes! I look forward to seeing the Rover on the trail this year! Great job.
I daily drove one of these for 6 years. It was a love hate relationship. When it worked it was brilliant, but the amount of stupid problems and times it left me stranded or just wouldn't get me to work on a then 8 year old truck were ridiculous. I eventually installed a 2" lift and bigger tires, and an arb bumper with winch. It was unstoppable even with stock drivetrain. The guy who owns it now said its the rustiest land rover he has ever seen, so much so that he's restoring it on a donor body shell.
This Land Rover is worthy of preserving and refurbishment to get it in "as new" condition. it is a verified limited special edition. You are the man for the job. It will be a great addition to your collection of vehicles.
Hi Steve. Great to know you were gifted this rare Rover. I've owned a lot of Land and Range Rovers. I hope you do a sympathetic job of restoring this truck to some of its former yellow glory! I'll be watching. I might have spares I can gift you!
As a UK resident and owner of multiple Land Rovers from 1949 to 1989, I really enjoy your LR content. Good luck with this one. Hope to see you running and off-roading this one.
I was in the Land Rover factory in 1983 when they were preparing a fleet of 90s in that yellow colour; they were for the UK Automobile Association rescue service. Later I acquired a 127 which amongst its many paint jobs had a layer of the Camel sand colour although I can find no record of 127s being used as support vehicles.
Color is AA YELLOW LRC 584. There were two 127 (MY1990) Single cab with rear van, and two 127 Double Cab, that carried communication and workshop equipment,(Siberia Camel Edition 1990) one is G501BKV (still survives). Later (at least)3 DEFENDER 130 (200TDI) double cabin, with rear van, were in the Camel as support.
You can see Them here:

You must have confused the date, the NINETY 90 was a MY 1985 presented in May 1984 at Eastnor Castle and starting sales in June 1984, I doubt that by the end of 1983 they would already prepare orders.
@@manx1630 Thanks for the info. My '127' was built in May 1984 by SVO which suggests that it may have been a pre-production vehicle to the later 127 spec.
In the early 80s I was authorised to photograph all of the buildings and services at Lode Lane as part of a refurb project, but that excluded any vehicles in production.
@@robt2151 Hello again Ro: The 127 (ONE TWO SEVEN) were fully homologated in 1986 MY, and began to be manufactured in the common production line, abandoning SVO, (the rear doors of the Crew Cab were no longer rectangular and were the same as the 110 SW and there was already an own chassis and not welded). In July 1990 the production of the 1991MY began, already called 130 (as you know 127 in the same way, except for the 129 of the Dutch market 1994-2000, all are 127). The last year production ONE TOW SEVEN wore 127 badge (1990MY)
I spit my coffee out when it was being loaded n the flatbed. Brought back many frustrating memories. My XD is melting into the driveway. It is.genuine but has had some mods for.better function and mobility.
Woah. I asked if there would be any more Disco 1 videos in your recent live stream and turns out yes! Looking forward to the clean/fix up.
More to come!
Keep them coming Steve good job getting this rover looking forward to the videos of it
I'm of the same school, I'd rather give a vehicle away to a good home than try and sell it for a profit. You've got quite a collection...
Awesome that those people chose you to take their land rover, can't wait to see how it turns out, all the best to you all
I was born in the region of the UK where LandRovers were built although I haven't lived there for maany decades. I think thhis will be an interesting project for your channel Steve. I it is great to see that someone is prepeared to entrust you with such a vehicle. Well done Steve, yes get Cassie cleaning as she says she likes it!😁👍👍
Cool old Rover.
Fantastic overview of Trek/XD history. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about your XD!
Joey
Definitely want to see more about the XD! Sooner the better!
Hi Steve, I live near the Land Rover factory in Solihull. I'm really looking forward to seeing you work on this model.
Did you notice the shirt I was wearing when I picked it up!
This truck should be interesting... I had a '98 D1 and although the first five years were like a honeymoon, the last five were like the Amber Heard/Johnny Depp defamation lawsuit, for Ms. Heard (after 10 years of ownership from new, I sold it to an LR service manager to fix for his daughter to use to go to college). The truck can be fun, but the engine is junk. Having owned a '95 Range Rover with basically the same issues, I'm done with "classic" LRs. They say you never really own Land Rovers, you just take care of them until someone with more money than you have comes along. True dat!
Couples that wheel together stay together.
Will be following this one for sure ! 🇨🇦👍
Fantastic Video
Great project
What a cool find! Looking forward to seeing more of this vehicle on the channel!
Nice that it came from one of our beach areas (Wilmington NC) all the way out there for Steve to work on!
Thanks Steve, I noticed the fuel gauge was showing it had a lot of fuel in it. Cheers
With that much fuel I'll be rich!
The second I saw it I wondered if it was an ex-Camel Trophy vehicle. It seems I was close enough. I've watched all the Camel Trophy videos on CZcams.
Looking forward to this. I'm partially restoring a totally original 3.9i ES here in the UK too, nice that people are saving them at last.
It's going to a good home.
Thanks!
Great save!
Hi I used to make thermocouples for the test beds for LandROVER back in the day, nice to see they are still respected in the states. From a guy in England!
great stuff Steve thanks
That rover is freakin awesome
Great find! Great deal! Great people!
Thnx👍💪🍻🦅🦅🦅🦅
Excellent candidate for restoring. Looking forward to the next episode. Despite the anemic Buick V6, a Discovery Land Rover remains the family’s most favorite vehicLe. Unfortunately, it was totaled in T-bone collision. Very capable SUV though.
Nice ride 👍
Looking forward to a series of videos on this rig.
You do realize that if you drove 8 hours, it wasn't free? 😉
That was a scammer do not reply to them.
Restore it! PLEASE!!!!
Can't wait to see more !!
Also would like to see the blue XJ more.
This is exactly what I want to see from your channel!🏁
Happy to hear that!
Pretty cool!
Wow that so cool
So cool
I think so too
Awesome suv!
Yes I would love to see you get this running and driving out in the woods 4x4ing I had one of them in 2000 that was in ohson Korea that’s a major bought when I. Was stationed there thanks for the videos Retired sergeant major U.S. Army Gamsby
That is the plan.
Very cool!
Camel Trophy trucks were not yellow, but sandglow, which is more beige than bright yellow as on the XD.
Great find good luck with it
So everyone has to know how and where did you get this rare beautiful beast.
Love my Landrovers as much as you do young Steve. Such a great find and to own one built at SV ops Solihull.. Just a shame it was not TD1 but yes we understand why..On my 1991 3 door Tdi it had provision for 2 batteries under the bonnet (hood) used for the car jack storages use but I had 2 equal sized bought new batteries linked as 12 volt but a huge amount of starting amps on the coldest of day, normally never needing heater plugs to start it... I happily had my Disco for 10 years until my disablement meant i needed an automatic version, but, ended up with the smaller freelander diesel automatic i love "Nearly" as much - lol.. Thanks for the video.. will look with Interest to see what you find when the heads are off, and that strange "Clonking" noise ? thanks Mate --- Ian.B. UK
thank you
Good presentation Steve. I simply would’ve like to know what specific features, options or capabilities makes this model unique. Especially in comparison to Camel trophy or similar models.
I didn't want to overload everyone with too much information all at once.
@@ThisWeekWithCars well, I understand that, but all of us D1 owners are seemingly incapable of being overloaded with old LR facts.
If only people knew how sought after and rare these are.
cool disco. lets see more!
Looks like fun!
Congratulations
This has the potential to be a great project car - do anybody know how many of these survive?
This car found the right guy.
Yes. Definitely staying tuned for this…. I’ve only seen the fakes .
what size tires came with it
Kool!!!
Maybe someone knows:
I cannot seem to find the correct terminals to put on the plug wires for the coils. They are very small diameter, unlike everything I found which are bigger. They're also long.
👍👍
Nice add to the fleet! It appears to have been well used, but by owners who really liked it. I’ve been curious for a while - what’s the wheel bolt pattern size on those? Five on something larger than the 5 1/2” that we see a lot in the states, I suppose.
As best as I recall the specs on the wheels are 16" x 7", 5 Lug, 6.5" Bolt Pattern. The wheels that are currently on it came from a Range Rover but I made sure Steve has the original full set of 5 OEM wheels that came with the OEM XD models.
@@48920jeff Thanks!
It has the RANGE ROVER Classic NRC7900 VOGUE (or Mustang, as it was a copy of the '79 Mustang design) rims, it needs the original CASTOR NTC9976 (in black).
😎👍
Land Rover.
Made famous by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth MK2
wow and thats all i can say so far
I am what is commonly known in some circles as first.
Fuel pump and fuel pump relay.
I need a project truck, would you consider selling it?
I doubt I could ever sell this one.
@@ThisWeekWithCars it is extremely special! BTW, I knew you would never let it go!
A Strangerover disco. They should be paying you to take it away.
@This Week With Cars, I dont and ever have Telagram!!!
You are talking to a scammer not me
@@ThisWeekWithCars No I am messaging you, unless your the scammer, ha ha ha!!!
I don't have Telegram either so if someone is asking you to use it, it is not me.
@@ThisWeekWithCars I totally agree for not downloading Telegram, because of all the scams!!!
vidoes are too short
These are dime a dozen around Clearwater Florida..Scientologists love them
Almost too nice and rare to yank the engine for an MGB swap.
The original owner was kinda weird
Here, what do I win!?
to bad it's the v8 petrol 300tdi is way better.
Run! As fast as you can the other way from it.....for the love of your wallet man.
Nice guy but what a pity he and his wife have been so badly brainwashed by the mask madness. Can they no see the total lack of logic that one minute they have them on, the next they take them off and then back on again. No disrespect to these obviously nice people (they are not the other in-your-face kind) but it does make me sad to see them suffer unnecessarily, both mentally and physically.
