I heard Christa Ludwig very often in Vienna in the late fifties. Her Cenerentola (in German!) was incredible, also her Eboli, Octavian, Dorabella, Carmen etc. She hardly put a foot wrong.
@@pianoronald Ive said it many times, with Maria being my ultimate No1, if I were asked whose Voice I would love to have if I were a singer that would be Christa's
Bravissima.
There was no greater mezzo vocal line in recorded history. Every tone sewn together so immaculately but still with superb expression and vividness. She also brings a different facet to Amneris's character too here- a bit more guarded, less intemperate and sensual.
Is this from the performance with Gloria Davy as Aida? Ludwig is a majestic Amneris with a great, solid middle voice and a brilliant top - perfect Amneris
Brava Ludwig! Wonderful document of a treasured artist. Even sung in German plenty of stylist singing with full ringing tone throughout. Who’s the tenor and what is the year and venue please. Thank you Lohengrin
This was a performance sung in German in 1961 in Berlin, the tenor is the great Wagnerian tenor Jess Thomas, they basically tried to stage a Wagnerian Aida
Ι dont think there was anything Ludwig sang she didnt understand... Her musicianship was of Callas' levels... with Maria being my ultimate No1, if I were asked whose Voice I would like to have in order to sing that would be Christa's
Haven’t listened to much of Christa Ludwig’s recordings beside the Callas Corelli Norma but I remember that you appreciate her dearly.. the German singing makes this unintelligible ( though German is my mother tongue..). To be honest Dominguez and then Simionato spoiled the role for all eternity to my ears, though I admit this isn’t at all bad.. reminds me of Barbieri singing Trovatore compared to Stignani.. it isn’t at all bad singing, on the contrary but still missing that certain something.. ofcourse if you compare it to any of the today’s singing it is in Olympean standards..;)
I heard Christa Ludwig as Amneris in Vienna in the late fifties. She and Simionato were the best Amnerisses I ever heard.
especially in her early years she was full dramatic Mezzo with amazing agility and Gorgeous lyrical timbre

@@pianoronald Mezzo Soprano Assoluta for me (and I rarely use the term Assoluta for anyone)
Τry to listen Oralia Dominguez singing the part ; she's the most passionate.

One of the greatest Mezzos ever, marvelous technique and just a sweet and powerful voice at the same time

Auch eine der besten Gesangslehrerinnen. Sie verfügt über eine ganz excellente Technik . Im Liedgesang gab sie auch ganz wunderbare Meisterkurse .

Plus she looks so gorgeous in that pic.
Je l'aime depuis toujours !
Please tell me there's more of this! I've never heard anything like it.
WOW eine Deutschsprachige Amneris! Love her no matter what!
Great Amneris, Magnificent Adalgisa
I was there !
in 1961? wooooooooooooow
Where and when was that?
It took me 4 minutes to realize it's in German
Wowza!!!
As always, thank you

Gotta love Christa going Theda Bara. :D

She is much better than Visit to my friend. Thank you Theo.💙🍷 Arnold
It's all there in the core of the voice. I'm convinced you can't really produce the sound required for this role without understanding it.

@@LohengrinO A very young Jess Thomas.

Madame Ludwig was a great Dramatic Mezzo. I don't enjoy Germanic or Nordic voices. Madame Ludwig was an exception to the rule. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
the Messo Soprano Assoluta of the 20th century
Agreed!!
