Danm I forgot the 3rd boss actually has a turn animation instead of just flipping , that’s actually cool for its day
yeah, it's also made in a very simple but effective way. The sprite basically consists of a front and rear part and by moving those over eachother it looks like the boss turns, but it doesn't cost any graphical memory. One of those clever tricks used back in the day.
Link's shield is so good it makes Dark Souls players jealous

That boss was the easiest boss in this game my opinion, and I didn't defeat him the "cheat way" like that guy did. Thankfully he never threw me in the lava pit!
He fires a linear beam of fire at the platform you’re standing on, so use the jump spell and jump over it as soon as he is ab to fire it.

And yes, the Zelda wiki says that the Japanese name of Barba is Volvagia - so you're both right. However they are different Barbas / Volvagias...I think.

Original Japanese name: barubajia. Localized in NES release as Barba. Later changed to Volvagia for Ocarina of Time

I sort of agree. I’ve beat it once 100% so I did everything. It’s a decent game in my opinion, one I’m glad I beat but not one I’ll play again for a long time (especially because it’s hard a shit) but I think a remake with more polish, maybe something with combat similar to that of say Hollow Knight (quick, precise, challenging, yet fair trial and error combat) would make it the best 2D Zelda

this game facinates me . the sprite work is amazing and the boss designs are sick ! this game would really benefit from a top down remaster with some quality of life improvements
They should redo everything about this game. Though a different company, DuckTales and Castle of Illusion have been redone. Imagine what they can do nowadays to this game. I'm not talking about custom hacks or anything but completely remaster and correct all of the issues.
@@bryanna72 In theory, OOT was intended as a reboot of this and TLOZ games, fuse toether. You can even see it in some aspect of this game, as the music the fairies do, that owns the same notes of the Hyrule's field in OOT.

For me, the bosses were the easiest, because you could go all out to beat them, knowing your health and magic get replenished. It’s getting to the bosses that’s the hard part. _Everything_ is out to get you and is stressful getting through all of them, without wasting too much health, magic and lives, or it’s back to the very start.
Dude you got mad sword skills and your defense is a beauty to see. I love this game and I have beaten it alot. I will never understand the hatred for this game.😑 But when I see how u fought these bosses with style. Made me pull out my NES and start just replaying this game.
I spend like 1 hour of my life defeating Dark Link and you beat it in just 1 minut Hahaha

Actually beat this game about a week ago (via the eShop for the 3DS). Did it all from start to finish in about 5 days. This vid helped with the Thunderbird and the final boss.

I let my friend play this game on my Wii U because I thought it would give him a hard time. He had never even picked up the game before. I had a save state right before the Dark Link battle since I had already beaten the game.
So I tell my friend to fight Dark Link and I shit you not, he beat him on his first try without hardly losing any health and he didn't even use the corner trick. He straight up dominated him. I couldn't believe my eyes but he got a good laugh about it.
I suppose that he used jump strike technique.

Thunderbird is easy as hell. Cast Shield and Reflect. With the right reflex you can beat him unscathed.
@@deuce5546 can you really use Reflect against Thunderbird? :o

@@Psykhos Yes. Reflect cancels out it's fireballs, and as long as you face them they will not harm you at all, this way you can fight Thunderbird with minimal damage so you can duel Dark Link at full capacity

I always liked it, too. It's probably a combination of the difficulty and how different it is from the games immediately before and after it.

Jackson 101 I don't believe people hate it, it's just they dislike it's different style and difficulty.
I dont think anybody besides you has ever disliked it because it was on the NES. The NES has far more complex games than Zelda 2 that work fine. Its underrated because it was very different than its popular predecessor (also its brutally hard).
I think a major reason why people don't like this game is that the hints towards getting progress in the game where very cryptic and the brutal difficulty turned people off.

Not only defeats all the bosses but does it with the full heart throwing swords! Not bad, for a human. EDIT...ok he does use the regular sword too but still flawless job with the bosses. Especially like how he dispatched Barba the giant lava dwelling snake. Good job man!

For helmethead - after you knock off the first two heads, you can jump above him just right and downstab him repeatedly until he's dead. Takes some practice, but once you get the hang of it, you can beat him in less than 10 seconds.

I didn't know there was another way to beat Dark Link besides crouch-stabbing him from the corner
That's the only way I know how. Any other way doesn't seem to work. It also sucks that you have to go into the fight already weak from Thunderbird. Unless you have some extra lives or decent health it isn't a fair fight. No magic left for powering up since the previous fight wipes you out. I wanna say I remember a room nearby where you can find a magic jar. Sometimes though it's an enemy so you have to be cautious. Thank goodness you can start from the palace. That would be cruel to make you go all the way back to the beginning and expect to make it there and beat both bosses all on 3 lives and you might not have them all by the time you got there.
i had to use save states to beat the thunder bird. as for shadow link I camped on the left side of the screen and spammed crouch stab.

At 5:09, I see how Shadow or Dark Link falling through the floor in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time originated. At 2:44, oh! You can strike Gooma anywhere on the body and hurt him. You can't do the same thing to Mazura because he is heavily armored. I get it now.

The cavern that had the flying enemies near the end of the game was so annoying. I always got knocked into the lava.
Yeah that is a difficult part in the game. I just use the fairy spell and fly through the area lol.
Moa's are a pain, as long as you have the cross.
OK after watching a video on how to defeat an iron knuckle, I'm starting to think that the secret to all Zelda 2's difficult enemies is jump & attack.
Yeah, I learned the same thing.
Attack as you come down from the height of a jump and you will almost always score a hit. Especially works on the knights in palaces in the early game. Later those blue knights and those found in the great palace I usually tend to avoid if I can.

So to obtain the Triforce of Courage, Link had to destroy the evil part of himself? Like Kami from DBZ.
Gaming fact: Gooma wasn't in the Japanese release. His fight was actually suppose to be a rematch against Helmet Head.

I wish I realized you could do that to the fire dragon and kill him that easy. Never thought about jumping and bouncing on his head.

I just thought that Id note that in Zelda 2 when you defeat each boss there is a bright flash and you can see links shadow. Exept when you fight it
