I think it was a test to see how she really felt about Derek. He already slept with his wife so he wanted to see could he get Meredith too. Thank god she didn't sleep with him. She already slept with George and hated it so to sleep with Mark wouldve made it worse and Derek wouldve looked at her in a different way. Besides the chemistry between Derek and Meredith is fiiiiiiire.
