    Well that's Charlemagne's point of view but as the film video makes clear he was the prime villein here as he was the aggressor. The vicious massacres after the battles did crush the independence of the Saxon state and ensured another people came under his yoke but whether it was good or not for Europe as a whole would depend on how things had developed.
    One point that wasn't mentioned was that the 'old Saxons' as they were called were still predominantly non-Christian, which was another factor for the brutal suppression of their independence. They were always going to be crushed sooner or later as the power of the Christian church and it's unwillingness to co-exist with non-Christians made lasting peace impossible. Fortunately we live in more civilized times nowadays, at least in most of Europe.
    You need to tidy up the text displayed as there are a fair number of errors including multiple different spellings of Paderborn which makes it rather distracting.
