    the situation is that your hair is wavy. waves can disappear as hair is shortened. curls get curlier the shorter the cut because there is less weight pulling them down and stretching them out. I recently chopped my hair off and ran into this problem. my hair is curly so it got curlier EXCEPT the one little patch of wavy in the back of my head that is now straight.

    Yes this is definitely a thing, a very common trait for wavy hair! Because you have a lovely loose wave, your hair requires a bit more length for the waves to start to show. And yes using things like mousse and scrunching it in is a perfect thing to do to enhance the waves for your hair texture

    • @clairemckinley691
      @clairemckinley691 Pƙed rokem +46

      @@CT1010101 hmm idk. Maybe I come across as ‘nice’ bc I’m a white person for whom the issue of overtyping hair does not impact me that much. For lots of Black people especially, it’s more than ‘just hair’ because they have experienced real ongoing discrimination for their natural hair. I understand why some Black people get frustrated when a movement they started to appreciate and fight for acceptance of their hair has been co-opted by white people with wavy hair.
      Calling wavy (type 2 hair) curly is a form of overtyping, which leads to people with type 2 wavy hair thinking their hair is type 3 curly, which then in turn pushes people with curly hair into the type 4 category, pushing people with 4c hair off the chart entirely. And this isn’t just a silly online debate, it has real world consequences, with people with wavy hair buying curly hair products thinking it’s for them, then complaining when it doesn’t work for them, causing companies to change their product formulas, taking away some of the few products that were actually made for type 3 and 4 hair.
      And also, people with wavy hair acknowledging that their hair is wavy and not curly benefits them as well! So often people will be told that their hair is ‘curly’ and then try and treat it like true curly (type 3) hair, which ends up with them getting their hair weighed down and not looking as nice as it would if they just embraced the fact that it’s wavy and used routines and products meant for wavy hair!

    Tip to try: apply a small amount of leave-in conditioner formulated for curly hair while your hair is still soaking wet. Then with your head upside down, scrunch the excess water out of your hair with a t-shirt instead of a towel. Allow to air dry and see how your hair likes it :)

    it’s because your hair is wavy, not curly. yes, technically wavy is a type of curl, however their patterns are entirely different and act/grow differently. if your hair is curly, it’s going to get even curlier the shorter it gets. if your hair is wavy, it’s going to get straightened the shorter it gets.

    Guys. Y’all don’t need to gatekeep curly or wavy hair. Curls can be loose. Waves can be tighter (smaller S wave pattern).
    I went to cosmetology school and one thing I learned really fast is that there’s all different types of hair.. and for some reason people are really sensitive to the word “curly”. Curls come in all shapes and sizes. You can have kinky tight curls all the way to loose big curls. It’s just shape and how it grows out. It isn’t that deep.
    Her hair in the longer picture looks to be around a 2b which is technically waves but I can’t say for sure that she doesn’t have any actual curl patterns in there as well.

      Thank you for being a voice of reason for this comments section. People are seriously sensitive to the word curl. I have "wavy", as they call it, hair and I've had waist length hair that was cut into a bob. And let me TELL YOU the curls that I got when it was short. I have fine, fine hair, but a LOT of it, so there are plenty or curls, or waves, whatever you wanna call it, but only if it's a bob or shorter for me.

    If you want volume try styling it upside down & scrunching/ploping toward your scalp. Also, you can try plopping it into a tee shirt to dry rather than using a towel.

    I would recommend you use a diffuser attachment on a hairdryer and you dry it the pixie method, so you collect the hair in the diffuser while it’s off, and when it reaches your scalp, you turn it on and once it’s dry you turn it off and take the diffuser away and do that all round your head (doing it this way reduces frizziness, that’s why you turn off the hair dryer before putting on and removing it)

    If I get the ends point cut, I still have wave and curls depending how I style it. If it's blunt cut, it tends to go more straight.

    funnily enough I have the exact opposite problem. I used to have wavy hair as a child but not anymore, but then suddenly for no reason, when I cut my bangs and front pieces a few months ago it suddenly got rlly wavy which is,,, now I look like a jellyfish bc the short front of my hair is curly but the long parts aren't 😅😅😅

    Something that works so well for my hair is whole blends hair honey! After I bleached my hair for highlights my hair wasn't as wavy as before, but I started using the hair honey after taking a shower and it worked! I definitely recommend it and it will help bring back more of the wavyness.

      Wouldn't recommend to wavy hair people. Wave & curl is 2 different thing.
      Curly hair gets curlier the shorter their length. Waves need the length to further make the wavy visual more prominent, thus the belief of "loosing wave when it's shorter".
      You have to research what class of wave is your hair before researching for the style. Mine is 3a/3b, couldn't rock the 2a/2b hairstyle as I hoped.

    I can tell that your hair isn't necessarily curly, it's wavy. Mine is curly, once I cut it the curl pattern became SO much more intense. However yours seems to do the opposite, the curl pattern gets less prominent the shorter it is

  • @leya2215
    @leya2215 Pƙed rokem

    It’s the other way around for me. When I let it grow it becomes more wavy, because it’s too heavy to sustain the curls. But when it’s short I don’t have to do any styling whatsoever, just let it air dry and I get curls.

      She doesn’t have layers so weight makes it lose curl volume and appears wavy.
      Which waves are still considered a curl pattern, just a lot looser.

    I’m always so self conscious about the fact that one side of my face seems bigger than the other and my hairline sits higher on that side making it seem more like that. But you have similar characteristics to that and are so beautiful! It makes me more confident that I’m not the only one with an asymmetrical face 😭

    My hair is a similar length, but a tighter coil pattern. From the video, it looks like you brush your hair back while it's wet after washing it. This can straighten out looser curl patterns, especially on shorter hair since the 'clump' of curls is smaller. Brush your hair before washing or while conditioning it, and then only use your fingers to sort of separate out the clumps of curls. Also, make sure your hair is like dripping wet when you put the mousse in, and dry it with a cotton shirt instead of a towel. I find that drying the hair after applying the product helps distribute it evenly and prevent that crunchy texture. Good luck!

    Usually... if you do have curly hair, the shorter it is... the lighter it is... which accentuates the curls...
    Where as in your case... you only have wavy hair lovely. So when you cut it short... you must've cut it to the start of your natural wave pattern... taking away the beginning of your waves... they'll soon come back once you've grown back a couple inchesđŸ„°

    To style your hair in a French bob, follow these steps:
    1. Start with clean, dry hair. If your hair is wet, blow-dry it first.
    2. Part your hair in the center or on one side, depending on your preference.
    3. Take a section of hair from the front, about an inch wide, and comb it straight down.
    4. Cut the hair to your desired length, keeping it slightly longer in the front and gradually shorter towards the back.
    5. Continue cutting small sections of hair, working your way around your head. Use the first section as a guide to maintain a consistent length.
    6. Once you've cut all the hair, use a comb to ensure it's even and adjust any uneven sections if necessary.
    7. Style your French bob by adding texture or waves. You can use a curling iron or a straightener to create loose, soft waves or curls. Alternatively, you can use a texturizing spray and scrunch your hair with your hands for a more relaxed look.
    8. Finish with hairspray to hold the style in place.
