Amazing! Well deserved.
The music was brilliantly intertwined in this film; it was a main character. And having Stefani Germanotta's voice. We knew she was a brilliant choice (for Ally) because we know her talent. I bought the soundtrack..first.
I fear the song Shallow will be the only victory at the Oscars for A Star Is Born, just like the Golden Globes and now the Baftas. I hope I'll be mistaken.

It’s really embarrassing that ‘a star is born’ is SUCH a phenomenal movie about depression and trauma, and it’s being reduced to Just a movie about music. 🙄
And it's always compared to the other versions. This one excelled at trauma, depression, character development, etc as you said! When I watch this, it never looks or feels like a "remake"
And the music (which lyrically, all songs tell a story and are an important part of Ally and Jack's journey) is just the icing on the cake.

I only watched the first 40 seconds and that’s it. It’s weird how he stood up without even kissing or hugging Irina. Usually they kiss their other half or at least hug them when they win. 🤔

He didn't write Shallow but was the major writer/producer, along with Lukas Nelson, of 4 or 5 of the songs in the film separately from Lady Gaga

The BAFTAS usually get it so right. But merging the two music categories, (Best score and Best song) was an absolutely ridiculous decision. Mark Shaiman's work on Mary Poppins was far greater and more prolific than Bradley cooper's contribution to this film and Terrance blancher's score for Blackkklansman was incredible and was also much more deserving of this awards. Star is born shouldn't have even won best song let alone best overall music. BAFTA, please separate the music categories!!
Your so wrong dude. Shallow is one of the best songs released last year. Its a worldwide success and critically acclaimed. I bet you haven't even listened to the soundtrack yet.

Firstly just because something is popular or well received does not automatically make it eligible for a BAFTA award. This is not a popularity contest like the Grammys, it’s one of the most respected awards one can have.
Secondly you’ve just made my point yourself by explaining how good “shallow” is. Well one song should not be the reason for the win. It should be the collection of songs and/or score.
There is absolutely no denying the sheer musical craft of Mark Shaiman’s Mary Poppins, far outweighs that of lady gaga and co. He had the seeming impossible task of writing music for the sequel to one of the most beloved films of all time and pulled it off! He wrote all of the songs, (all of which were incredible not just one standout). And also wrote a beautiful, lyrical score which blended in new themes and old themes from the original movie, and wove then into the musical tapestry of the film. There is no competition between him and Gaga.
My overall point being, that the music category should remain as two separate categories best song and best score. It’s outrageous that they’ve merged them. They’re two completely different entities and doing it this way turns it into a popularity contest where incredible artists miss out at a fair chance at winning because the songs are obviously more popular than score.

I disagree on the merits of A Star Is Born winning this award. Shallow is just the icing on the cake, it has gorgeous compositions like Always Remember Us This Way, I'll Never Love Again, Is That Alright, Maybe It's Time and bigger sounding tracks like Black Eyes, Alibi & Look What I Found, etc.
Just as a great Score connects with your heart, the compositions in this film totally drive the emotion and connection to the characters. It's a worthy winner.
Arturo Aldana I think those other songs are ultimately forgettable.. the success of A Star is born is driven by Shallow. Plus there is no real underscore in the film so the audience can’t latch onto the characters as well. This is compared to Mary Poppins (which admittedly not all of the songs were outstanding. But I can only think of one which didn’t work very well). But it otherwise had such incredible musical numbers as well as a rich score which made clever use of those melodies and themes from the songs and also those from the first film all the while being fresh, exciting and new.
It’s clear the music award was given as the consolation prize to star is born which won nothing in any other category that night.
