"It is a lot of fun if you just expect nothing" well said.
Shout out to all my boys in the dip right now. I really took off with stage two the beginning of this year, last month I put out more than 6 finished tracks and this month I haven’t finished one.
I’m still in exponential learning honestly, but feels like a huge dip from slowing down so much lil
@@Bittamin I feel you bro! I think, I'm were you are aswell.
the dip sucks to be honest, have been in it for months.
Let’s come out the dip together boys. Who wants to trade feedback? ❤
Personally I needed to really understand chord theory before I became happy enough with what I’m doing to move forward. It’s different for everyone but I feel like as long as you are working on something that is functionally moving you towards your goal. Your only goal should be creating what’s in your heart, because once achieved everything else is at beck and call
I felt like I wasn't sure which stage I was at until you said that Stage 3 morphs into Stage 4 slowly and that's exactly where I'm at rn. I'm kinda getting out of the dip, don't have inspiration everytime, but still make stuff. I have felt like quitting multiple times, but producing is just too fun and it's just too satisfying to be proudly listening to your track or idea on loop. This has helped me through my dip :)
After pumping out 70-80 songs in the span of 2 years I'm now finally in the dip
I'm in stage 4 and I gotta say, so much that never clicked for me before is clicking now. Watched likely thousands of tutorials throughout the years and they only kinda made sense to me now matter how well explained they were, for years I thought I just wasn't cut out to do this instead of the affirming thought that I just wasn't ready for those tutorials, revisiting them now is like a night/day difference
Keep going dude, happy you got through and kept going. Nobody gets where you are in a year. Even though everybody wants to start off on top we have to train and feel ourselves growing
@@Bittamin forreal I think when we start out our expectations aren't that aligned with the reality and it takes stubbornly banging your head against a wall to get over that hurdle, once your expectations are properly calibrated though everything is much easier to comprehend/practice. I'm still not where I want to be but I don't cringe as much at my work anymore and my friends actually enjoy my beats for once looool
@@omega3battyacid878 yes the biggest holdup I had in my first 6 months was never being able to get a sound I liked, doesn’t help starting with garage band IOS but it sure beats spending thousands on a set up only to realize you’re not gonna make the next 90s house banger your first try
Pain bro, sitting there for hours tweaking and still ending up with garbage is the most demoralizing thing I've subjected myself to, infact the only reason I kept doing it is because it worked like 10% of the time looooool
@@omega3battyacid878 this cut me deep
Initiation period for me! But I place way too much pressure on myself to be good already. I just need to enjoy playing around with the software & learning this mental journey of music production
yeah bro just keep experimenting and enjoy the process
Iam in the dip since forever
Spent nearly 8 years on the dip phase, quit production entirely somewhere around 2015 out of frustration. I've been starting again lately with completely new perspective.
Im just starting and going through void, but you gave me some hope and envy to learn and improve , thanks a lot🙏
Thank you for making this video. I feel like I'm dipping rn and feel like an overwhelmed loser, but this has really made me feel inspired
I’m nearing end of the dip and targeting my learning - and mastering parts of the craft. This is an incredibly helpful video and inspires me to keep at it. Keep at it everyone!!! It’s just time - and joy! Great channel. Love you guys.
Down to help, just reply. Just like seeing folks move past dip. The end of dip is really a magical place
I’m feeling exactly in the dip phase , is not easy and it’s really about to either quit or continue , now this video has changed my mind and see that it’s worth it to keep !
The dip hit me a few weeks ago
It went from fun to being a ton of work to make a good song
My inspiration is crushed by realization that getting the idea from birth to finish is an entire journey where things can get lost
Shout out to the DIP GANG!!🤣
Climbing out of the dip stage slowly
13:24 I agree with the entire video, except for the examples of those who are masters of production. I think teachers are guys like Aphex twins, Drexciya, Larry heards, Robert Owens, theo parrish, J dilla , robert hood, etc. But I understand that the Channel is called EDMprod. Very good Channel.
Great tips and very motivating, thanks!
Very helpful to hear as i'm definately in the dip stage. THANK YOU!
Brilliant... I have been music producing for about a year now, still in the exponential phase trying to balance my job between learning the fundamentals and creating new tunes. A few weeks ago I created a tune in a week that I thought was great, and built on a lot of new techniques that I had started learning. Riding high I was pretty happy, so I got straight into my latest tune and started off well, getting a little lost in Ableton's Vocoder (which I absolutely love). However, this tune is taking much longer and with each day I am getting disheartened (it doesn't help we are in lockdown again). This video this morning is great to watch, and I'll definitely use some of the tips that you've mentioned here, like focusing on an area getting good at it, and moving onto something else that I am not so skilled at. I'm not in the dip stage yet, but kind of am with this tune. Maybe I am striving for too much at too early a stage, not helped by the last song coming together very quickly and sounding pretty good.
My dip lasted so long I had to go back and do stage 2 all over again. Literally over a decade and a half.
My dip is/was when I thought I knew everything and didn't try to apply simple techniques or felt "too good" to try them. When you put yourself open to all info and inspiration good or bad, you slowly turn into stage 2/stage 4
This is very much true to other crafts as well. Drawing, animating, software development and even sports.
Any skill basically.
Once you get the basics and get above the beginner level, progress curve slows down, and even mite plato.
Naturally it "feels" like we got to our peak potential, and if its "not getting results" like money or outside acknowledgment one mite quit. But its not.
You just need to keep going and pushing forward.
If you managed to get to that step with the mentality of getting enjoyment out of the process more than
the results, you have much better chances to "survive" this dip, as you are not motivate by the results but by
the process.
Very Important video! Hope this gets a lot of views :)
that "make friends" that will give honest feedback and know production hit me in the feels ha! I think I'm in the exponential learning phase if anyone wants to ride through the dip with me hit me up LOL
Still in the dip rn, even tho I'm 8 years into it
Clawing my way out of The Dip.
Having fun with it.
True true and cool explanations
One song a week! I like that tip. I have been producing music for 25 years now and I am still finishing like one per year. I think it is about time to speed up. Great video with tips that are good to hear again even for experienced producers.
Damn so relatable!!!
Gunna be starting my dip soon, deffering my uni production course because my rsi has gotten too bad to be able to make music and learn regularly. I feel like because I know it's going to happen I can be more ready for it atleast
getting into music... because I like VST and all the effects... imagine knowing EQ, and stuff before even knowing what a major chord is.
wasted my last month learning music, worth the time.
edit: if ur budget is tight, try to use cakewalk. can do everything, and I believe the UI is very very good and simple
Im trying to get into this, but I really don’t know where to start. I wanna learn by following a good structure and improve by the time.
Over a year long Big dip gang, we'll get there...
good video. on your point to finish one song a week: this might work for genres like house and techno, but hard to achieve for more complex genres as dubstep or psytrance. I'm producing psytrance and it takes me 1-2 months to actually finish a track. I'm using FL wich actually has a project time tracker. If i look at the time before the final mixdown it's often in the 100-150 hour mark.
Would you recommend Korg Gadget as a DAW for iPad?
That Damn DIP!!!! uhh been goin for 24 months strong!!!...:( sorely awaiting when Creativity comes back ...
Good god, everyone watching this video that’s too new to know. This is absolute truth, heed it or be prepared to not make real meaningful progress.
On the downslope of the dip here. I sometimes want to set my laptop on fire to eliminate all traces of the garbage I am making 😉
I think I’m finally getting past the dip, I hope.
I guess I'm in initiation stage... I've been making music for 10 years but I only just gained the ability to stop caring about criticism and just have fun.
Finally!
Initially I bought Logic pro x because I have a mac. Later one I realise that Ableton was much more easier. I waited and when I started to study Industrial engineering I bought a Ableton Live Suite and many plug ins with a student discount (-50%). My first finished song was actually good even if not perfect BUT I finished it and was very creative and motivated. After that I never finished a song again since I started to study and always ended up in 32 bar loops but never finished. I think I will have to start now again somehow getting motivated otherwise Im afraid that this initial fire for producing music will disappear on the long term. :-I
One more guy in the dip here, while still exponentially learning. I’ve achieved mild success in sync licensing so far on royalty free libraries but still I don’t have a defined brand from which you know what type of sound you can expect. My mixes are good, my compositions fit their purpose and my music is being used on videos and commercials, and real people is paying actual money to use it, which is prove that it is good enough for that. But man, Iife getting in the way at all times is overwhelming. Making music while having two other full time jobs seems often times too much. It’s been 3 months that I do nothing music wise, and I don’t know if I’ll ever overcome that. I think his is the end of the trip for me.
Thanks for listening.
Thanks for sharing buddy. You need to look within you and find what truly makes you happy and focus on that! I wish you the best
@@aggjohnson8488 Thanks man, appreciated!!
DIP GANG!
Dip gang! 🤜🤛
Dip gang... Can't mix and master my songs to sound full, totally frustrating. But we don't give up, learn more, do more and make eventualy some good music that will make people move, ain't I right gyus? ;)
Hoping the best for everybody, and I think the best mindset to have for production is this is a HOBBY you enjoy!!! If money is going to come from it, rarely will it come from somebody who has 0 passion or love for music. If you don’t have love or passion for music, just start a record label and sign people instead 😅😅😂
Dip ganggg❤
Im dipppppinnggg
DIPGANG....i wish I went with abelton in the the beginning too. I am stuck with cubase and it's clunky and limited in its audio file treatment. I have a ton of unfinished crap but I have sold some tunes, but it's just...honestly it's just so frustrating......ahhhh...... too many distractions. Also, I don't know which direction I want to go in - I have tried a number of styles, but they are the unfinished bits of crap I mentioned. how many tutorials am i going to look at, feeling envy at how easily it all comes to the presenter?
Dip gang. I don't feel like I'm completely in it yet, but I can feel myself slipping into it. Let's just hope I come out soon
Shoutout #dipgang 👌
I guess I'm in 'The Dip' because I don't seem to be getting better - maybe worse! - but I'm not unmotivated. I've got multiple projects going, but am having trouble getting a really professional sound or the sounds I would like. I'm working in Logic. Should I take a course? Maybe all the CZcams tutorials aren't enough. If you are working in Logic and want to listen to each others' tracks, let me know.
I've made more than 100 beats so am I still on stage 2? I've been remaking songs recently too. Any answers, please!
dip gang
I'm just at the end of the dip stage I deleted my 80+ GB sample packs and deleted fl studio 2 years ago and decided to stop all of this but one day I heard an EDM song and i downloaded fl studio again and sample packs but still to this day i find myself have no motivation and my songs sound soo bad comparing to pro songs .
even the problem to select a specific genre is running each day in my mind . i couldnt find my sound either . let's hop that i will pass this stage
#dip_gang
OK, so looks like when I jump from Stage 3 to Stage 4, I will be 50 years old ;) Still, 7 years ahead of me.
Proficiency stage here. Only thing I struggle with is finding other 'proficient' producers to work with.
Dip Gang!!!!!!
Isn't the dip pretty much beat block?
stage 6 - Amon Tobin )))
I might be a odd one here but i never got the motivation to learn a DAW till i got into sound design. all scroling threw the internt searching for samples turned me off.
I mix stage 2 and 3 in daily
Stick to the tips here for sure. Dip sucks
DIP GANG ! Lol
Looks like gonna be here a while… may as well get some chips (for the dip)
i just got out of dip....
been stuck in the dip for years... so sad😒
Dip gang

I'm on Bandlab.. I'm at the DIP🥀🥀
I feel like I'm in a really weird stage. constantly second-guessing myself not getting much done. barely practicing...
Something tells me to keep going...
Fantastic video
🔥🔥🤘🔥🔥
somehow im in a crossover of stage 5 and stage 2
Hi, I'm from deep dip gang.....LOL
Dip Gang
Always dip.
Creativity is finite. The ”dip” should happen at least once a year. That’s when you go for walks, listen to music watch movies, make babies 😅
Just left the dip. It literally took everything mentioned here to get out, chord theory melody counterpoint, drumming knowledge, daw familiarity a b technique. Done
Hit me up if you want help to get out of dip. Just love helping people make it out of dip desert. Ableton suite only please. No soliciting sales promo, only real people that know they are in dip and serious about leaving now. Any genre.
DIPGANG
I feel like there isnt 1 dip, there are many.
True!
DIP GANG 😢
out of the dip
Is Sam alive )?
Conclusion: this man is using white ableton template for 10 years, what a...
dip gang here....see an army😁
Maybe you also should mention this….
99% Will never make a living from their music even if its world class.
That’s the harsh truth.
Most really good artists you NEVER heard of. Sad as it is.
So you need to make music for yourself. Because you have to. Not to have a career. A caree is a positive side effect
dip
Wish I saw this vid when it came out!! I’ve been #DIPGANG for probably about 18 months now. I will say things seem to be picking up a little🥲
Cause tbh🍾🥲🥲🥲🥲it’s got really budget without him, incl podcast but not limited to.
