- This time around on Rhythm Roulette, Mass Appeal linked up with NYC based beatsmith Illmind. From working underground circuits and eventually taking off via his involvement with the Beat Society scene, Illmind has accumulated a resume that's in a league of its own. After putting the ceremonial blindfold on and running his fingers through stacks of vinyl- Illmind created a straight slapper for us using a gem of sample by Patti LaBelle.

Not only does this show give producers more camera time and respect, but it really lets you know what the vibe kinda feels like when great producers are in the zone and shit
+MTCTV just found out about it... i love it
Beat is so hard even the dude at 7:11 was feeling it
Aladdin Music Aladdin Music ahh yes lets sit around and pretend statik selekta isn’t a household name in the hiphop community
AHAHAHAHA this comment was the best ahhahaha
This had me dead asl for no reason 😂😂
@@tobitaiwo7314 It was pretty funny.
Bro 😭
Mass Appeal should drop instrumental mixtape series to go along with this ...
bobby gots agreed
That’s a great idea. I’d buy it
Most definitely
If it wasn't so much sample clearing that would be incredible
@@lukestar2218 they could put it on SoundCloud
That split second you see the wheels turning in a producer's head = priceless
Everytime he dropped the needle on that Patti Labelle i heard joints
+frizza241 Soul makes the best hip hop
+Curtis Wallen (Curt) or jazz
FOREAL THOUGH!!
Same. Some of those gave me the stank face.
His workflow on this set up is super clean and quick to just get the grove. No nonsense set up.
Props to this man for producing in the box in protools. That’s legendary. I just started using protools as my primary DAW for beat making as opposed to just mixing and mastering and Illmind makes it look easy
One thing all these guys have in common ..when they hear something you can feel the excitement and see it in they movement that they got something...lol. brings back memories.
Definitely my favorite part is when their heads start bobbing to that beat. They know they have something and cannot seem to help themselves but to move.
Do yourself a favor and listen to Labelle's "Moon Shadow" there a *lot* of things to take from that album. Heavy bass and funk throughout.
Enter to win an Akai MPK25 & Numark M4 DJ Mixer from Rhythm Roulette! bit.ly/RRGvawy

That was one of the dopest samples I've heard on here.
hahaha so dope. you know its fire when it makes you stand up.
This video is soooo much sicker than the other rhythm Roulettes because it shows his whole process a lot better. So much cooler.
Using protools to sequence and chop the way he did is a different technique.Well done I haven't seen many people use it this way.
Dope dope dope...!llM!ND never disappoints...
Sampled beats just don't move me like watching somebody make a beat from scratch, but they do bring back memories
HIP HOP IS SO RAW'' AN'T NOTHING LIKE IT THAT'S WHY IT RULES
Kenn Starr - Against the grain, one of the dopest beats I've ever heard.
Yo! That jawn came out knockin'! One of boys hipped me to going to flea markets to get records. There are a lot of gems in those old vinyls!

Wow how do I get a hold of this beat? That shit was FUNKY!!!
The opening track while he's picking the records has also been sampled for "Sweet Talk" by the great Vanilla.
Ay A1 Records. So proud I live near it, anytime I need something, walk a few blocks to it.
One of the best rhythm roulettes!!
This is great idea for a series. Also hearing !llmind sample again is excellent.
Illmind is dope…love the stuff he's done wit Little Brother…man wish i could get on this show…lol!

IllM!nd did a beat for Joel - I just might. That beat was flames!!!
IllM!nd also killed it with Bad Santa. That beat will always be among my favourites for one reason, it reminds me of my girl and how she makes me feel. Happy and emotional.
shout out to illmind , greatest in my book
this snares are sick...
Love watching the focus... Ramon Ibanga
This is hot as hell. Probably the best Mass Appeal! That be is hot. Send it to 50!
"Nothing crazy" he says as I'm breaking my neck and freaking out to this shit

Patti had so many melodies on that he didn't even need to add shit other than drums

That Freddie Hubbard album is so dope...
ILLMIND’s rhythmic beats r so elegance that I use ‘em 4 meditation 🧘♀️. Just 👂 👂 to 0:0-0:05 I had to go back just to catch the vibe. ILLMINDED-ILLMATIC P2TG

Dope series. Would love to do this.
would love to see you on this!
yo these vids inspired me to go back to vinyl. I just had to figure out how to with my current studio set up. Look out for those records in my next beat making vids. btw I'm subscribing! good stuff guys
First Light Freddie Hubbard Dope Album . Classic
it would be dope to do an instrumental ep with all the beats from rhytm roulette
Best beat made on mass appeal.
'Shoutout to Pattie Labelle.'

BANGER STRAIGHT
Great beat ! Props ILL !
YO THAT WAS QUICK AAAAAAND DOPE
That whole album is fire
Feed my need of roulette
I just sampled Some joints off First light yesterday, dope
These videos aren't too entertaining. They should incorporate samples from all three vinyls in their beat and really make something cool, not just so so. Anyways thanks for bringing these legends. Keep it up. Cheers.
STRAIGHT TO THE FUNK....
ANY PATTI LABELLE is GONNA be NUCLEAR
definitely one of the illest results of all Rhythm Roulette
Wow that was the dopest Intro i ever heard !
That dude also dope
Should've checked out the Freddy Hubbard record. Great album.
In my experience most DAWs look complicated but if you learn a lot of the little things within them you realize it's less of a big monster and more of a patchwork. So if your thinkin about approaching Pro Tools, do it!
Sounded like a bud light commercial🔥
I knew he was going to sample that
That joint was fire!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sometimes less is more! Sick shit!
im "good" at my level of producing & sampling, but one day i hope achieve this level of excellence
Dude pulled one of the dopest jazz records
THOSE BEATS IN THE BEGINNING ARE HOTT!
What about the Freddie Hubbard album? Never seen one of these where a whole record was skipped.
that was tight🙏
thats a dope flip of "the makings of you"...NOTZZ got probably the illest flip that Ive heard recently on his newest album 'god made dirt' its called "a love song" ft RL...
i love to see ppl use the same midi keyboard i got
What is the keyboard?
exactly. asr-10 it's a very good sampler and llmind used it too.
Max ПараХоd it’s an Axiom Pro 49 👌🏽
DOPE. ..
that shit was dope. never heard of !llmind did my research and the guy is legit.
Indeed, you did make a Banger!
That riff was so hot that it immediately stood out. I do disagree with his decision to leave it naked though. There were a few more elements that could have put it over the top.
