When my house is too cold for bread proofing, I put it in the oven with a hot water bottle. Easy and cost effective. Thanks for another vlag, I'm enjoying it while I knit and sip my tea.

I am a baker and I regularly make sourdough Einkorn boule style bread. I live in the U.S. up by the Canadian border and it gets really cold here in the mountains.
To bake in the winter I turn my oven into a proofer/prover. Put your covered dough in the oven and add a pan of boiling water in the oven and close the door. I usually only have to reheat the water once during the rise, just check it every 30 minutes. I also have a propane stove/oven that always has a pilot light lite in it, so that adds a tiny bit of warmth to the oven also.

One trick I use is preheat your oven to 200* for 1 minute, so when you touch the rack it's warm but won't burn your hand. Then put your dough in to proof!

Emma you can put your bread/levain on a hot water bottle or a heating pad on low. In Alaska my bread lives there and my kombucha jar wears a scarf 🤷🏻♀️🤣

If your dog isn't too curious just set up a table next to your wood stove in the living room and have it sit next to the fire. Maybe if you have a thermometer stick it in your dough and try different things and see what gives it the optimum temp for rising.

Sweater…hmm you want color work…a nice neckline…the interest at the bottom…sleeves not too big. Sounds like you need to create a pattern!

My proofing trick is boil a mug of water in the microwave put the bowl in with it and it proofs so well
Your bread looks delicious Emma. The first of the three “plain” jumpers you showed looks like it has some interesting details so maybe that would be enough to keep you interested? Also, if you end up casting on the plain and the colour-work jumpers around the same time that might give you enough variation to keep going with both? Personally I like to have a range of projects on the go so I can knit what I’m in the mood for!

your sourdough looks beautiful! as for sweater choices, it's hard to vote! I think the one by eri shimizu is nice...I knit the konomi pullover by her and loved it! Perhaps you could add a little texture down the sleeves to make it more exciting to knit?

For the sweater, I have the Niji in my Ravelry, but I have the Nukunuku by Noriko Ichikawa too, and I think I prefer the last one and would probably make it first. You have the Natures Cardigan by Ozetta, and I've just cast on it : for me it's a cardigan but with the fit/warmth of a sweater...

One thing I do for my starter when it gets slow (mine take like 12 hours to be bubbly now due to low room temperatures) is to put it above my fridge where the warm air makes it a bit warmer. Otherwise I put it on a chair in front of our fireplace, but it’s more unpredictable 😊

Lovely homely vlog Emma and a Happy 2nd Birthday for your little girl. The olive yarn is absolutely beautiful and I think would look stunning knitted in the Moinear pattern. Maybe if the neck line doesn’t sit right for you, you could knit the neck area higher?
Ohhh do the Port in your gorgeous olive green and I love the detail of the lines at the sleeve top. I would want to highlight the green yarn without a yoke pattern just because it's such a lovely color. Yes my sourdough starter has also slowed down in this cooler weather.

It's likely the temperature of your house, mine is actually slowing down which is fine for us. If you keep it in a warmer place in the house, not hot but warmer it will get busy. If you have a stone hearth for your stove you can put it near there or on it if it isn't too hot. If I have lots of laundry to do with the dryer (bedding) I will proof my bread on top of the dryer in my laundry cupboard. Another idea with the oven, if you put it in on the top shelf then put a pan on the bottom shelf with a pan you can pour boiling water in then change it out ever half hour. A heating pad works too, just don't let it get too warm or you will have a mess! LOL The heat of your house is also why the honey is so thick!
Isabell Kraemer’s Rime would look wonderful in your yarns. It’s a contiguous construction with color blocking that would showcase the olive and a contrast color across the shoulders.
You are an amazing baker! Congratulations on the sourdough...always a challenge. Love both knits you wear in this episode. Am using your wool to knit socks for my sister's birthday just now, and thinking of Irish sheep as I knit. Greetings from California, where it (sadly) isn't yet raining as Autumn comes through.

Hi, love your relaxing blogs/garden/Rufus/knitting/wool/etc! On sourdough, I’ve made it a lot over the years but now stick with ‘Bake with Jack’s’ method which has lots of similarities with yours but isn’t such a lengthy process. He uses the scrapings methods for the starter (he’s on youtube) but uses 200grams of starter and 900grams of flour which makes two loaves. I’ve found that I can put them both in the fridge in the evening, bake one in the morning and the other the following morning - using the bake from the fridge foodbod method and it turns out just as good as the first loaf! However, it is definitely true that the starter takes longer to get going in the colder weather and if making bread regularly it probably isn’t even necessary to put it in the fridge all the time. I also make oval loaves - they take up less space in the fridge and are a bit more user friendly - hope that helps!! Your sourdough does look great - fancy scoring!!
I’m knitting The Lakes pullover by Ozetta right now. It’s quite plain similar to the one you showed, but saddle shoulder construction and it’s been interesting to knit!

Definitely just need to knit one of each type! What about the Ribbed Jumper by Anne Ventzel. I haven't knitted it but looks like the shape you like for the more practical one-colour but just a bit more interest (the underarms may not be super practical though for fitting under a coat). She also has that Badger and Bloom sweater that I have had my eye on! I don't think you can go wrong with that olive colour though - I've got a couple skeins of it in natural sock too that i'm toying to hold double w/ causeway for my next cast on (a cardigan for my little girl). I really love the motif of the Moinear too though...i see your dilemma. I'm no help..

In the order that you showed the options, I vote for number 3, #4 has the interesting color work but not the neck line that you want. Your cake looks yummy - carrot cake is my husband’s favorite cake.
Dear Emma, your vlog this afternoon. The perfect distraction while the baby was napping (unfortunately only 25 minutes...). During spring and autumn I put my sourdough as close to the stove as possible as often, beside a teapot or in the afterwarmth in the oven. I experienced the same slowness in rising as you when the house gets cooler.
I would opt for the Eun-sweater. I really like the silhouette and the details. However, probably I would do more narrow sleeves as well. Greetings from the Swedish West Coast, Barbara

I think you are leaning towards the colorwork sweater at the end. I’m so glad you’re doing vlogmas.
I think you need one of each ;) of the non-Moinear options, I would go for the Niji since it fits your specifications the best.
Maybe Lenu by Ankestrick with a higher neck would be an option
Having the same kind of issues as you in deciding on a next sweater. I was considering Ozetta’s Seaway Sweater as it combines a cozy knit but has some textural details that would make the knitting more interesting than plain stockinette and ribbing. Take a look at it if you have the chance, and thanks for your podcast!

I use the oven with the light on if it's too chilly in the house. Are you feeding your starter when you remove it from the fridge? I'm the same with the compost pile. Think of how nature does it, it'll be okay.
Yes I am, although I can confirm it does take the 12hrs in this cold house to get bubbly and happy

Although your bread looks very nice, if you want it to rise higher you might want to shape it a bit tighter to give it more structure. I don‘t find the english word for the German word „schleifen“ which is pulling the loaf on the working surface with nearly no flour so it sticks a bit …. you pull it towards you and because it sticks, the surface is stretched …don‘t know if thats understandable 😂 if a find a reel on IG I‘ll send it to you
