While living on base solves the problem of not speaking any German, it also limits what you will experience in Germany. Try to get off base more often, and you will find your world opens up a lot.
Wiesbaden is a beautiful town, has amazing shopping streets (Wilhelmstraße), wonderfully clean parks, great bus line connectivity.
The surrounding country side is gorgeous and dotted with tiny, quaint villages. Frankfurt a.M. is only roughly 40 km / 28 miles east of Wiesbaden if you crave big city vibes.
Throughout Germany you will find that crime rates are very very low, so safety is not an issue for walking your dog or even letting kids play on the streets.
Welcome to Germany from a German currently living in Hamburg, but whose grandparents and parents both lived and grew up in Wiesbaden. I've been to Wiesbaden so many times I lost count (but well over a thousand times at least).

This makes me sad to watch cause I lived in aukamm for almost six years and i absolutely LOVED it. We moved a few months ago back to America but I know exactly how you feel our house was so small with five people living in it. And the kitchen was so small but I really loved it and miss it so much. Good luck in Germany! Auf Wiedersehen!

I really do love our apartment, too! Sometimes it feels like we still have so long here, but time is slipping by so quickly! I just want it to slow down!

Housing has changed since the late 80’s and early 90’s. Watching your videos takes me walk down memory lane.

This video is really helpful. I will be traveling with a pet too and I would like if you can make a video explaining like all the stuff we have to do before we can travel with our pets. Like how hard/challenging it is. Thanks again for your videos

I live in aukamm, and we have storage under sinks
There’s an elementary school in aukamm and an elementary, high school, and middle school on hainerburg.
Only kids that live in aukamm go to aukamm elementary, :)

Crestview was the butt of jokes when I attended WHS in the 80s. Hard to believe not much has been done about it. I lived in Aukam. Truly lived my time there.

What about USACE? Do they and family have to live on base as well? My son’s father ( ex-husband) just got a job there and wants us to go with him, but we would have to have a 3 bedroom ( for obvious reasons lol, we’re friends though and co-parent). He is actually getting a promotion so I was just wondering if we would have to live on base or is off base a possibility at all? Thanks

Are Crestview and Aukamm like normal german neighbourhoods? - e.g. does german garbage collection drive through those housing areas and collect garbage and do german people walk or drive around as part of their commute path? - or is it more like living on base with no Germans around, even though there is technically no ID required?

This housing in tiers stuff is such crap. That’s all I hear is you gotta be an officer or something to get decent stuff. HORRIBLE.
