- The Honda NSX is a sports car icon both on and off the track. Starting life as Japan’s answer to European mid-engined sportscars at the dawn of the 90s, the NSX would go on to change the way we think about supercars. But to become so beloved Honda would need to prove their new flagship was more than just for show, the new NSX would need pedigree, it would need to win...

That's the second most beatiful car to ever compete in SGT after the McLaren F1
It is remarkable that when NSX entered the grid, they were racing against R32s and F40s and on their last season they raced and won against R35s.
R33s to be exact when a NSX entered by Team Kunimitsu joined the JGTC in 1996
entered the grid being broadcast on those old ass crts and left in HD
@@DiscGolfLeagueMVPaww come on CRTs aren't THAT old.. 👴
@@AdamTheMan1993i think it was ‘95, not ‘96. And they came first in the GT2 class which was a huge milestone at that time since their counterparts (NSX-R GT1 Turbo) failed to finish.
Pretty remarkable achievement but it's the result of a good project and tons of resources in development remarkable indeed but not unexpected
I know it's a big part nostalgia, by my god something about NSXs, supras and gtrs on a fuzzy screen with 90s/00s graphics is godly
I know exactly what you're talking about and I agree, those 90s films just seem to make cars.... more real. I love it
Resolution mate... graphics are purely synthetic. Sorry for my knit-pickage!
plus the 4:3 aspect ratio 😩
I actually miss old TV,shitty resolution loaded with commercials for stuff we just had to have, ahhh the memories
You blew up, dude! I remember when you were below 3k subscribers making the same caliber of content then and now, the caliber being godly. Keep going strong
Before I even got to 22mins into the video I was already thinking "what a nice nsx poster, i want one" lol
Every new episode new items are added to the background. The NSX GT Poster and car model. Also I believe it's the first time seeing the Calsonic Skyline model on the shelf next to the McLaren F1 GTR.
the NSX status as legendary is well deserved when you have Satoru Nakajima, Ayrton Senna, Gordon Murray, Keiichi Tsuchiya and Kunimitsu Takahashi praising it.
This is probably the only video that tell the nsx story that also goes through their motorsport history deeply. Amazing video as always
You just know it becomes really good when GT2 music starts.
I will always love how their V6 become so sophisticated they didnt even switch it out until HSV-010 when they *finally* use a V8
The same V6 they used *from the beginning. From JGTC to the dawn of V8 era of Super GT*
The V6 that ACTUALLY sounds better than its F1 counterpart
These late 90s and early 2000s JGT liveries are sooo iconic! Could watch this old footage all day
Damn, this video was amazing
The way you talked about the NSX winning its final race ever actually made me emotinal :'D
The closest I'll probably come to owning an NSX is owning my Insight, which is also all aluminum and was built in the same factory as the NSX
Staying in the super gt theme, you could make a video on Subaru’s involvment in Super GT as well!
Another brilliant piece of viewing.
And a legendary car.
Made my tea much more pleasant.
Cheers for that, Mr Automobilistic. 👍🏼
Thanks a lot, man! Great tribute video to the racing NSXs, love the Epson sponsored one, and luckily I have the Tamiya kit to build the model of it. Cheers!
Thumbnail is an absolute stunner!
The liveries of the NSX's are legendary. Easily recognizable.
2:55 Yes it is Variable valve timing. But I think you'll find that its the Variable valve LIFT that is giving that added power. There are two cam profiles in there.
The 2.1 from the JGTC Supra shares more DNA with the IMSA 4 cylinder cars than anything else
Thank you for a great effort about one of my all time favourite. Absolutely loved those mid90s Kunimitsu and Raybrig GTs at Le Mans. Idea for a future video: roll of honour of your growing scale model collection
You left out the fact that in 2008 some NSX entries would switch to using a single exhaust pipe.
How could he forget the most important part, unsubscribed
every video on this channel is made with simply amazing production quality. i hope this channel keeps to grow as fast as it has been. keep up the great work!
also finally a channel doing relevant and interesting merchandise, props, man !!
More posters!!
Ahhhh yess I'd recognize that little gran turismo song anywhere haha. That cracked me up, very nice addition because anyone my age has only seen these cars on a ps2.
Love these detailed videos on racing cars from the golden era. Keep them coming!
I have most of those JGTC/GT500 NSX liveries burned into my brain due to Gran Turismo. That white Mobil 1 livery was just something else.
Another cracking video for one of my all time favourites 👌 once again superb 😊
automobilistic videos still dont dissapoint, its amazing
this video made me really proud to be a future owner of my dads civic, i always loved honda but didnt know that side of theirs
I am really enjoying these car history documentaries you been making i wonder what you got planned in the future
Honda could have easily won 5 GT500 titles from 1998 to 2002 had the car would've been more reliable as it was by far the fastest of the 3 major GT500 cars
Love this channel. Keep up the excellent work
This was some of the best content I've seen about these gorgeous racing machines. They were always my favourite cars in the series.
Thank you for this video! Very interesting history!
Mate I've been following you for maybe months thinking that you are prob around hundreds of thousands of subs (I never really took the time to check your sub count I was that certain) but now that I've checked, you are underrated as hell mate I love your content
I have a suggestion: Group B biggest failure, Citroën with their BX 4TC
Yes! I knew you’d make a great video about this! Thank you!
The NSX is one of the coolest racing cars ever. Loved driving it on Gran Turismo in various versions!
This car was featured in the Gran Turismo series of video games and I was a having a lot of fun around tracks like the Nürburgring Nordschleife and Suzuka, both as a production based supercar and a GT racer.
Great documentary. Love these car racing stories.
Great vid!! Thanks ❤️❤️
Excellent video! Keep it up!
I honestly think the NSX looks better than most Ferraris.
Great video, thank you !
Excellent content,keep it up!
Gordon : Can i have your v12 engine 🥺
Honda : No
This guys videos are so good. Would definitely buy merch
Takata the Castrol are the best NSX colors ngl
The 1998 photo @9:51 actually shows the Mugen X Dome logos on the noses of all four cars (the white/black Mugen logo & the orange/black Dome logo just below the Honda emblems) just as you're saying Mugen and Dome split. I suspect that Mugen-Dome Project was not only the name of the on again/off again entrant (team), but that the Mugen-Dome Project was the name of the developer/constructor of the JGTC NSX GT as you explained @7:00. While the 1997 car has only the Dome logo on its nose, it appears that all JGTC NSX GTs regardless of team have Mugen X Dome logos on their noses from 1998 through 2002. From 2003-2009 they instead have the logo/wordmark of Honda Racing.
Gordon Murray actually approached Honda first to build the engine for the F1, but Honda refused
I got to say, your voice effort on this video convinced me that someday you'll succeeded those guys who do narration in nat geo or bbc documentaries. But i selfishly hope you'd still be doing this kind of youtube automotive and motorsport docs!
If you can do any Nurburgring, or Le Mans posters, and any Group C posters I'll be buying. Know you have to watch license issues. Love your channel, always great information shared!
10:46 rare footage of Tom Coronel WITH hair
Love that the thumbnail is also a poster on the wall 😊 i want one, looks good
*one little caveat to this is that Mugen's 2007 championship win being decided before the end of the season was not the first in the series history, just first in GT500. The first before seasons end championship was Team Taisan with Tsuchiya Engineering's 1998 GT300 title with Shingo Tachi (RIP) & Keiichi Suzuki.
ARTA not Mugen
My inner Gran Tursimo is tingling😍
Gran Tursimo 2 Castrol NSX, Car Porn.
@@ih8temoney what?
This tickles my Tursimo too
@@darrickkoko2987 Have never heard the term, "Car Porn." A car so beautiful you would stick a poster on your bedroom wall. Your dream car? What about an R30 Super Silhouette Nissan Skyline? Or a Mazda 787B, even the Mclaren F1 GTR Longtail all car Porn, my car porn list is endless..lol
Heya, nice video! Always wondered about the story of this beautiful race car. I have an idea, can you do a video about the BMW M3 GTR race car? Never seen one about them! It would be a cool topic!
Nice thumbnail and video!!!
Thank you so much you make video of story of the Honda NSX racing history and i know the NSX because of F1 legend Aytron Senna test drive this car on track on japan in 90s.
The art is so good
Beat Nissan? Just hire Carlos Ghosn
Looking forward to a video of the NSX’s successor the HSV-010
where did you get your model cars in the background? I'm thinking about starting a small collection :)
Thank you very much for "NOT" calling the toyota 4 cylinder a 3sgte!! I get so sick of hearing people saying that being that the 503e is not the same as the 3sgte...
Once again THANK YOU!!
I'm an NSX fan Boi and this is by far the greatest NSX apologist video of all time ❤
Where did you get that framed circuit de la sarthe from? I'd love to get one myself!
Can you make the video about the R92CP
Where can you watch these races, new and old? And are there any places with english subtitles?
That switch to Gran Turismo music was a pleasant surprise
Underrated
Other cars may have a stronger race winning pedigree but I would take an NSX every single time, over pretty much anything else offered. It's a choice I'll never make, mind, but still!
When watching videos from this channel, I forget you're a small youtuber.
What is the red model car behind you on your left, viewer's right, in front of the huge jeep SUV thing? It looks like 70-80 % Ferrari with a touch of Japanese and a touch of a modernized version of a DeTomaso Pantera. It looks so sweet, I need to know what it is, lol.
the toyota supra race car Legendary rival! in Gt4
New video! Let's goooo
I couldn't stop thinking about Grand Turismo 2 and 3 while watching this video.
My favorite gt500 car ever
It’s astounding how amazing those 80’s and 90’s cars were compared to the boring shit we have now.
what a great story
The Garaiya... we need it back in GT7
Fun fact: an acronym is when the initials of something form a word, for example, DARE, NASA, PETA etc
When the initials don’t form a word, they’re called initialisms.
My favourite acronym is the Coventry University Netball Team.
I would love to have watched one of those race NSX engines being built. 🔧
I can only imagine the hours upon hours that researching the 15-year-old racing career of the NSX took. I didn’t know this car kept on racing for so long, which makes me wonder -Is there any other car that has competed this long?
Comments not mentioning Gran Turismo for one single video. Challenge impossible.
Subaru's 1992 project name WRX stands for World Rally eXperimental.
So, I think we can allow New Sportscar eXperimental from Honda.
Whats that Lego moc infront of the Land Rover?
I always imagine “what if” Honda had stuck to the original NSX formula but updated it with 21st century technology and materials. Carbon fiber, titanium and magnesium replacing steel and aluminum. A “mated” double K20/24 4-4.8L V8, putting out 450-550hp NA. Since I am dreaming, a 6spd manual, cuz automatics, even double clutch ones suck. The crazy light materials allow Honda to keep the weight to under 3500lbs. And let’s be honest, the original NSX at 270hp was considered underpowered vs what was available back then as well. People still said it was the purest sports car they ever drove back in 1990.
What a car 🐐
Comenting through the app break
"By 2009, the pedigree was missing the NSX". I laughed out loud.
those nsx gts could have just had their own racing series, they looked great
Right!! Thats it!! Can someone tell me why we say an engine is mounted in the "middle" of the car when it is so obviously mounted behind the driver, in the back? I'm 53 and I still haven't worked that one out!
To the best of my understanding "mid engine" simply means the engine is mounted between the axels, as opposed to over the axels (as in "front" or "rear" engine cars). Mid mounted engines can either be in front or behind the cockpit, but behind is more common. In front is sometimes called "front-mid" and behind is sometimes called "rear-mid" but because most "mid engine" cars are rear-mid most people just say "mid engine", only specifying when its the more unusual front-mid layout.
Don't take that as gospel but that has always been my understanding.
What did they race in 2010 I'm curious
13 years, 100 races, to finally win 2nd place… then the NSX was no longer built for sale.
If only the MR2 was used more in competitions
Nice AA Stealth 787B
The NA1 NSX was definitely more powerful (270HP) than its European rivals of the time - the 308 (252HP) and the 964 911 (247HP).
Senna didn't help in designing the chassis, he just helped them find the perfect balance of the suspension geometry and driving feel that the car needs.
By the time Senna was a household name, they were just done with the prototype in 1988 and by 1989, they got Senna into the whole prototype package and got him to do vigorous testing during F1's off-season which he gave extreme feedback on how the car should feel, how much the diff needs to lock or unlock and how stiff the springs needs to be and how much flex of the chassis can the driver feel.
Senna did not have a say in how the chassis was gonna be made but he did give vital feedback on how to set the car up for general use which, he did real well in that manner.
That is correct, which is why I said "...and they lent on all of Honda’s best motorsport connections, including Ayrton Senna, to help craft a chassis and suspension setup that would...". Nowhere did I say Senna had input on chassis design, only "chassis and suspension setup".
@@automobilisticSo diplomatic...
A fine example, sir. 🙏🏼
Ayrton Senna was a well known household name worldwide before 1985 when he drove for Lotus, he played a major part in the redesign and development of the NSX as a world champion. In the Ten years I seen him drive F1 he also drove a NSX on track and talked many people in buying the cars from 1988 to 1992 because he actually worked for Honda.
Hey look, Tom Coronel won something that isn't the following on Twitter award
Car was super fast in Grandturismo❤
