Genuinely one of the best live sounding bands of all time. Ashcroft's voice and Mcabe's insane ability to make a guitar cry together creates such passion and energy. The fact they've never earned £1 from Bitter Sweet Symphony due to the Rolling Stones greed is a crime
It wasn't a part that was written by Mick, Keith, Ronnie & Bill, so they couldn't have sued Ashcroft/The Verve. The controversial sample was only Todd Oldham's own orchestral arrangement of the Rolling Stones hit, "The Last Time", so Mick et al. didn't lead the rush to sue Richard Ashcroft/The Verve. Instead, it was Todd Oldham & the Rolling Stones' manager Allen Klein who launched court proceedings against Ashcroft/The Verve. Interestingly, Oldham & Klein also proceeded to legally add Mick & the boys' names to the songwriting credits for the iconic string part, even though it was Oldham who wrote it. This meant that Oldham, Mick & the boys got the royalty payments from "Bitter Sweet Symphony". However, after Klein passed away in 2019, Mick et al. used their newfound legal stamp on the song to end the issue...they reversed the effects of the court ruling, by agreeing to pass future royalties to Ashcroft/The Verve. So Ashcroft/The Verve have been collecting royalties for "Bitter Sweet Symphony" for the last 3 or 4 years.
Brand new song at that time. But the crowd is feeling it and more important the band is feeling it. Look at them. Richard's, Simon's, Nick's and Pete's energy. They blew Glastonbury to another dimension. They were at their height again. Too bad they couldn't continue their journey :(. Maybe someday we'll see them again
you wasnt around in the 90's then brother. Mr Ashcroft has always been the main man............ Just a generation thing.... Please enjoy his brilliance......
Recent performances at Glastonbury are so lackluster compared to this. This was absolute fucking magic. I echo other sentiments here - easily one of the best Glasto performances ever. A lot of the crowd didn't even know this song (as it was off their yet to be released new album) and they still went mental. Shows how good The Verve are!
I had the option of them or Chemical Brothers at T in the Park, I went to see Chemical Brothers, thinking I'd get the option to see the Verve again, but we know how that ended up...I had a great time but based on the amount of times I've watched this upload, I think I should have gone to the Verve that night
I found this song a little while ago, even though I’ve been listening to The Verve around 3 years ago. What a tune mate! This band keeps surprising me with their bangers
Who's this man think he is, casually slipping his jacket on whilst giving one of the best ever Glastonbury performances, closing the set with a brand new song. Grow up Richard
They absolutely killed it at Glastonbury. They don't get enough credit for it. Mind blowing at the time and still to this day.
yeah stunning performance .
One of the best live performances i ever seen...
Ano for some reason the energy in this and how full the instruments sound is amazing! Amazing. My fave ashcroft song too!
Rob spot on. The energy is unreal. The Verve had this ability to take it to another level in their live performances. 👌
Wow that was bloody brill
Brilliant. The whole band at their best!
@@waynebrierley3697 they’ve got the verve ahahahaha
Think this is the best performance I’ve seen at Glastonbury
I so wish I could have been there! So ❤️ LOVE The VERVE!!!
This is easily one of the best performances at Glastonbury
I must of watched this about 100 times most underrated artist in modern times effortless

I thought the stones backtracked on that recently, still twats for what they did though.
@@smpgeek especially as the stones ripped off the song themselves!

@@smpgeek See my comment above for the facts. It wasn't Mick & the boys who were the villains in the story.
That transition from bittersweet to love is noise ... goosebumps every time
Love it
Long live to Mr. Richard Ashcroft. One of the best voices that the rock genre has ever given birth to.
💚
Makes me cry what a privilege to have been there
One of the best live bands I've ever seen. The songs are better than any recording. A rare thing.
Easily in the top 10 greatest Glastonbury moments
Remember catching this live on BBC sat on the sofa.
Even at 17 I knew I was watching something special.
Richard Ashcroft gets all the praise and rightly so..great frontman & voice but the band are incredible..all of them are so tight & on it…respect ✌🏾
This song never got the appreciation it deserved. One of the best ever imo
Still played at the end of every Wigan Athletic match..... :)
Stage manager: "so how much smoke do you guys want?"
Richard Ashcroft: "Yes!"
Haha!!!!
This the best post of the history of youtube........
Sir, your post makes me chuckle......
Yes .... massive long long long time fan...... legend of a man........
The verve so before their time!! Legends forever ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What happened to this band is one of the greatest injustices in modern music.
Remember watching this live on BBC when I was 16 and it blew my bastarding socks off. What a band.
Decent comment
Amazing band , amazing atmosphere
When you see the band with as much passion as the front man you know how great performances are created.
This noise is love.

A band this good deserves to be together, here's to hoping one day they reunite again.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.

I think I may have commented on this before...but...this is possibly the best ever live version of any Verve song. Ever. What a band. ❤❤❤❤
And even better about it? It's only 9 minutes fucking long
...🥰🥰🥰
Of any song* ever
I actually love this version better than the album version.
Damn they just don't make them like they did in the 90's. I am so lucky to have been brought up on this music.
Get a fucking life. You’re lucky not to be living in a cave skinning animals ya fucking melt
I watched this live on TV. What a performance. Mesmerising to this day. 🎤🎸🥁🎻🕺♥️
nick is by far one of the best guitar players of his generation, a beast of sound
Are you on first name terms with him are you?
"A beast of sound"... never heard that one before but it sounds good. Sounds very good. You are a beast of comment.

Quality that never got the recognition they deserved in the 90's 😎

You're joking right?
They were one of the biggest UK bands in the 90's, only Oasis compared to them.
Something about watching Simon Jones having the time of his life fills my heart with joy
The "one more time" bit so fkn good!!!!
I was in that crowd just about keeping it together 😂😂
One of my favorites song at The Verve.

Another underrated genius.
Sweet, shy, lovely Nick. If only they knew you were the soul of the band. And what a band.
The shortest comeback from a band. Reformed in 07, gone by the Autumn of 08 when they could have conquered the world, again.
I had the option of them or Chemical Brothers at T in the Park, I went to see Chemical Brothers, thinking I'd get the option to see the Verve again, but we know how that ended up...I had a great time but based on the amount of times I've watched this upload, I think I should have gone to the Verve that night
Compared to the Roses' comeback though
WHAT A PERFORMANCE ; OUTSTANDING RICHARD !***+LOVE YOU FOREVER !!!
