    This technician electrician seems to me very good applied to self study. He knows well the systems in the ship and how to follow correctly the troubleshooting process. Even he learned a good and practical english.

      Unfortunately sometimes it doesn't do the job :-) To me Aconis is unstable especially with a lot of servers on board. Like 7-8.

      I worked on this Maersk S-class (Stephnica, Salalah, Savanah & Salina) about 10 years ago. Sometimes direct reboots work, other times they wont.. networking is a whole different world.

      I'm pretty sure its Maersk S-class as I sailed on them. (either Stephnica, Salalah, Savanah or Salina.) Build in Korea by Hyundai.

      You can always ask for an advice to the Chief Engineer but most of the time if it is electrical problem, they will depend or rely on you.

    • @shyster717
      @shyster717 Před 2 lety

      Unfortunately everybody is waiting for you to solve the problem :-) Engineers can ask each other. ETO is mostly alone.

      The ship was built 15 years ago and it is something that the MPC- multi puprose controller, analog modules and serial buses would have a compatibility issue with the newest tech. Technology is changing so fast that the vessel cannot just go and laid off to upgrade everything. It will cause millions of dollars to stop the operations and delay billions worth of cargo. It's a matter of delivering the goods in time. In 2 - 5 years there might be a new OS or who knows the windows 10 might be considered as an ancient thing after that.

    • @HBvD
      @HBvD Před 2 lety

      @@leckyjake Thank you for your answer! I understand that is not possible to update to the lateste and greates versions. But I think the (PLC) supplier should do its best to make their systems atleast backword compatible with any computer OS. So you can update your servers to a newer, less vulnerable version with update capabilites. You control network at risk if its going to be connected to an external network. For you, it think its good pratice not to show any details regarding the ships network and used OS's since this could be a potential lead for people without good intentions ;) (I'll edit my post too)
